Thanks for the info on GCU.
When I look at BB's site I'm not seeing the prices above for those two games. Were they some short term "deal of the day" that already expired? |
Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
They were slow taking them down, I think the deal ended yesterday but the prices were still showing this morning. They'll be back on sale again.

I've been fully digital with the current generation of systems. So I'm happy to get PSN cards or eShop cards for 15 to 20% off to buy new games with. So GCU isn't worth it for me.

This is probably the one system where GCU makes the most sense, though. With PSN and Xbox, if you are patient you'll get super deep discounts on digital, plus it takes the same amount of space on the HDD. With the Switch, space is at a premium and costly, the installs are generally smaller for the carts, and their sales, while they're getting better, stink compared to stuff like B2G1F with GCU. Plus GCU works on Amiibos if that's your thing.
I mean, when something is on sale for 15% off on the eshop I'm ecstatic, and that would be a "wait for later" on PSN. Nintendo EShop gift cards don't seem on sale as often or as much though. |

Clusterpuck99 is coming to the Switch on March 29th. I played it at PAX South... it was amazingly fun!

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Anybody else have issues with the Switch? Mine won't boot past the Switch logo screen. I've tried resetting, multiple button combinations, etc. Trying to drain the battery now.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Japan is getting an Arcade Archives version of Punch-Out!! next Friday so hopefully a US release isn’t far behind.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Just started Zelda. Man, this game is great. Picking it up at a BB or something and playing a "demo" doesn't do this game justice. I still suck donkey balls at combat, though.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Went game crazy today and picked up:
Mario Kart 8 Splatoon 2 (My 3 year old was really wanting me to get this.)* Axiom Verge (Multiverse Edition) *His eyes nearly popped out of his head when I took it out of the bag and handed it to him in the car. I also picked up Xenoblade Chronicles 2 just a couple of days ago. I gotta slow down as we just got the Switch a couple of weekends ago. Already have two docks, an extra Nintendo brand adapter, Pro Controller, Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Kirby and the games mentioned above. It helps to have that Gamers Club Unlocked from Best Buy to soften the blow a bit. |

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
okay, so I need help with my Switch controller configuration. Everything was working fine this morning in handheld mode. My son drained the battery and after charging it back up the controllers aren't working right in handheld mode. If they are disconnected from the switch (i.e. one in each hand) they operate properly. If I connect them to the Switch, only one gets recognized. Either the left one gets recognized as being connected to the Switch and the right side is not seen. Or the right side is seen as disconnected from the Switch and the left side is not seen.
I can't play any games as every one pops up asking me for the controller config. and I can't enter it. Any ideas? I tried turning the system all the way off and I used the joycon finder thing and they each vibrate like they are supposed to. So the system recognized both controllers...maybe its the connection on the Switch? that would suck. I don't have another set of joycons to test that theory. EDIT: Nevermind. I ended up holding the "pair" button on the joycons and then connecting them to the Switch as the lights were blinking. That seemed to work. |
Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Yeah I thought the breakable gear would get annoying, but I am sort of enjoying that new twist. Makes it more challenging

Are you using a third party dock and/or power supply?

Turns out, that was the case. My son took it to DC with him and brought the Nyko charging dock that I had purchased at Gamestop over black Friday and hadn't used before. Now that he is back, I've tried charging with the Nintendo power supply, but it will not take a charge. Fortunately, it is still under warranty.

I know I could have saved a few bucks but went Nintendo all the way when it came to a second dock, another adapter (3rd one in total) and even the Pro controller. Do not want the headaches that some third party accessories can sometimes cause.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Seems like issues with 3rd party docks after the latest firmware update in general.
https://kotaku.com/switch-owners-say...eir-1824122777 Now, Nyko Switch dock users are reporting another problem: bricked Switches. Sean says he’s been using the dock since last October, but it wasn’t until he updated his Switch to the 5.0 firmware that the console started bugging out. After receiving several error messages, Sean says his Switch stopped turning on at all. On Reddit and Nintendo forums, some third-party Switch dock owners are warning each other of bricked Switches after the recent update. It’s not just Nyko. Some report problems with the FastSnail docking kit. Others report having no problems with the Insignia dock. |
Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Yikes. I just started using a third party travel dock on a trip. Thankfully it’s the Insignia model that doesn’t seem to be a problem. Still how weird to have an update brick Switches with a third party dock. It seems like it’s a pretty simple accessory. I hope Nintendo takes care of everyone affected.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Nyko was very good about it. Offered to replace the Switch and dock (had to send them both in) but the Nintendo warranty covered it so I went that route in hopes of keeping the save files.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Yikes, glad I didn’t use anything third party with my Switch. I thought about getting an external battery pack as well but never got around to it. I think I’ll hold off on that idea for a while.
