What difference does it make, really? Your typical release has reviews go up the night before. The only time things get sketchy is when embargoes hold bad reviews back until after the first day's sales - and in that case it's quite obvious what is going on.

Just curious since this is the first Nintendo launch I'm sitting out. |

Traded in what I had left of my Wii / Wii U games since they had a 50% bump promo and got over $500 worth of credit so I completely paid off my Switch preorder along with the pro controller, Zelda, Bomberman and Puyo Puyo Tetris.

Aspen seems like a perfectly logical place where there are large groups of people.

Retailer GameStop announced today that it will have a "limited supply" of the hard-to-find systems available to buy at its US stores on launch day, March 3. "We will have a limited supply of the Nintendo Switch systems on launch day for walk-in customers," GameStop's Bub Puzon said in a statement. "Our teams made this happen. "I would strongly suggest customers plan on attending one of our midnight launch events for a shot at securing one of these extra units. They will go fast!" |

Worst launch lineup ever even with Zelda

This, 100%, absolutely, positively cannot be argued, and it's a damn shame. Unless I find myself flush with cash between now and the summer, it looks like I'll have to wait until at least Splatoon to pick one of these up.

Worst? Nope. I'll take a new Zelda over every launch PS4 & XB1 title combined.
Heck, I have a better lineup of unplayed U games than the Switch will have for it's first few months. That's just pathetic. |
re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Zelda is by all accounts a "last Gen" title. Why drop $360 to play it when i can just play it for $60? It would be different if they made the Switch version unique in some way, kinda like Twilight Princess is considered a Wii game despite being on the GCN. I think it was a misstep to make both versions graphically identical.
As for the N64, Mario 64 was a game changer and something you absolutely couldn't get anywhere else. Pilotwings spawned a moderately popular franchise and a month in WaveRace hit and hot on the heels of that was Killer Instinct and Shadows of the Empire. |

I thought we were comparing launch-to-launch, not launch window-to-launch window. No argument about the exclusivity of Mario 64 putting it in its own class. (Pilotwings started on the SNES, so I wouldn't say that the N64 version spawned a franchise, not that that disproves your point.) The N64 and Switch both launched with one killer app, but the Switch does have more than a single other title to choose on day one. I can honestly say that this is the first time I've ever bought a console on day one and only picked up a single title at retail. (If Snipperclips launches on day one, I'll get that as well, but I sort of consider an eShop-exclusive to be a different thing.) I might be stupid enough to get 1-2 Switch if it times out with friends/family visiting...just as a silly party game. |
re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
As someone that thought the Wii U was a far less appealing console at launch in terms of technology and features, I never bothered to buy one so the Switch is my way to play the new Zelda :p
Polygon mentions the following as far as embargos go - When can we expect reviews of the Switch? The review embargo for Nintendo Switch hardware lifts at 6 a.m. PT on March 1. Nintendo’s review embargo for the system’s marquee launch title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, lifts on Thursday, March 2 at 3 a.m. PT. We’ll have pre-review impressions of Breath of the Wild on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6 a.m. PT. |

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Reading through a bunch of the previews and so far the Switch is what I expected - the hardware seems great (despite Joy-Con bugs) and the "switch" aspect seems to work very well. Battery life estimates seem to be accurate, for better or worse. There's just not that much software out there at launch (it's nice to hear Shovel Knight and FAST RMX will be available on the eShop though). And it's funny how mentions of little things like instant load times because of the cartridge is now appealing when it was standard a few generations ago.

Getting Zelda on the U. Worst lineup stands. What else you got?
Heck, I have a better lineup of unplayed U games than the Switch will have for it's first few months. That's just pathetic. Launch lineups are almost universally weak with maybe 1 or 2 standout titles. Comparing how many unplayed titles you have on the Wii U to the launch of the switch is about as irrelevant a comparison as you could make. |
re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I did have a pre-order in for the Switch with Target but then I had to move on very short notice and Target couldn't change the order and guarantee it wouldn't get cancelled. OK I figured I'd let it stand and it could be redirected if need me. Was really looking forward to the Zelda game since I have a lot of free time on my hands.
Then I left the card I had on the pre-order at a restaurant and as a precaution had it replaced. Well Tagret was trying the card weekly to make sure funds were still there, and since they couldn't auth the last number, they just cancelled the order rather than give me a chance to update payment info. So basically, fuck Target pre-orders. I don't really need to spend $300 + $60 to play Zelda right away so I may just go with the Wii U version as well. |

It's still a launch game and a major one that you can only play on the go with the switch.

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
What am I missing with that bolded line and the laugh?

re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
That a selling point for the Switch version of a Zelda game is the only version of that Zelda game that you can "play on-the-go".
