I have no idea why or why not, but the internet does:

Despite its continued critical acclaim and the tendency to re-release older Castlevania on new hardware, there have been quite a few consoles that went without a port of Symphony of the Night. The latest of these is the Nintendo Switch, which continues a rather unfortunate trend for the game and Nintendo. With no official reason given as to the lack of a Switch port, it raises the question of why Symphony of the Night is unplayable on the Nintendo console.

seems really odd that every other 2D Castlevania game is on the Switch, but not this. odd indeed. thanks Goldberg.

Konami hasn't been very active in the console space as of late (IIRC, they've been focused on mobile) and Castlevania has laid dormant for a decade since the last new game. So not really a surprise to see them not keeping the series alive with ports, although it appears there's a collection that was just released.

Why can you play other country’s games, but not their dlc?

If only there were some interconnected network of information that might house the answer to questions like this.

Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood…isn’t this the game I was looking for? So they do have SotN. And with that, it should be all the Castlevania 2D side scrollers, no?

That collection is only on the PS4, not the Switch.

BTW, the MSN article link didn't work for me. This link works:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/techn...ch/ar-AA11FCt9

The Castlevania games on Switch are:There's a bundle of all 3 collections you can buy.
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/pr...bundle-switch/

Looking at the list of Castlevania games, the games released between 1997-2003 aren't on the Switch yet. Maybe another collection will be released, who knows.

You’re right, my bad. It was on my PS5 and just thought it was Switch bc that’s all I’ve been using.

Aren't the vast majority if not all of the Castlevania re-releases on the switch from previous nintendo consoles (unlike SotN)?

Just get one of the collections, you won't even play 90% of the games and you won't miss SotN.

With the microSD cards…can you just fill one up and pop a new one in and put games on new while still being able to play from old SD card when that’s popped in? Pretty sure answer is no, just want confirmation. Thanks.

Yup, if you can keep them straight.

thanks Goldberg. keeping track, meaning knowing which games are on which SD card, correct? thanks again.

Didn't you get a 4TB microSD card like 4 weeks ago? Did you really fill it up with digital games already? If somehow you did, that should REALLY be a sign to slow down. Play some of those games.

no. i didn't even know there was 4TB cards. all i saw was 1.5TB as the highest. and, i'm just future proofing. in case. Deck, would you mind giving me a link for the 4TB? i checked on Amazon and didn't see it for Switch.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Sorry, I thought that's what you said you got. I just have a 1TB. If it fills up I'll just delete something. I think swapping cards would be too confusing to keep track of, but you do you.

I hope nobody is doing themselves. With all of this Castlevania talk, I'm going to have to get the Switch out and play a bit.

I think this has become my favorite game system. I absolutely love it and the games I can play on it. And, who would have thought handheld with same game played on tv.

Sega. Over 30 years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_Nomad

Well, would say they were ahead of their time, but unfortunately didn’t stick around. Glad the Switch is around though.

It's pretty fascinating how as much as people tend to make fun of Nintendo for not being as advanced, or not getting with the times some of their most successful consoles have been when they are actually a bit behind the 8 ball in terms of the latest and greatest technology. They've never been one to chase raw power. The Gameboy, the Wii, the Switch have been some of their most successful consoles and also underpowered when compared to the competition.

”Never” might be a bit of an exaggeration; the NES (despite the tech being pretty aged by the time it hit its stride in the US), SNES, N64, and GameCube on the console side were all very competitive in that respect. The Game Boy Advance was pretty serious business as well. But yeah, they started running their own race around 20 years ago and seem much better for it.

tanman 01-05-25 06:03 AM

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Yeah good point. Poor wording on my part. Recently they haven't been one to chase raw power. Arguably GCN was their most powerful console compared to the competition and it was one of their worst performing financially speaking. NES was pretty much first on scene and SNES benefitted from a later release than the Genesis although they were on pretty equal footing except for sound being much better on the SNES. The virtual boy was probably the best example of them being way ahead of the time and the technology not being ready.

smart to future-proof the 8 year-old console right before it gets replaced.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I think we've talked about it before but Nintendo, unlike Sony and Microsoft, couldn't afford to loss lead on videogames, which along with licensing are probably their main sources of income. They can't loss lead on consoles and make up for it elsewhere. Abandoning the bleeding edge of graphics allowed them to save money on not only hardware but also software development.

They still love their gimmicks (motion controls, dual screens, wiimotes, amiibos, etc.) but those usually fall by the wayside but you're left with a decent, usually exclusive library of games even if you're not going to get the best cutting edge ports.
