The old training system is back so it's much easier to level gyms up. I'm starting to see level 10 gyms again, curious to see if they last. Popped my high CP guys into some just in case.

It's easy to level up gyms if you know what you're doing. Use "suckier" Pokémon that are at or near the level of each of the guys at the gym. I've gone as much as 19xx in one round. I did two yesterday in 2 and 3 turns each.

Don’t miss out on an increased chance to hatch a Togepi (and other Pokémon)! Starting the morning of December 25, 2016, and through the afternoon of January 3, 2017 (PST), PokéStops will award one single-use Incubator each day after your first Photo Disc spin. As you visit PokéStops during this time period, there will be a greater chance of finding Eggs that hatch Togepi, Pichu, and several other recently found Pokémon, originally discovered in the Johto region. Special Pikachu wearing festive hats will also be staying around a bit longer! You are more likely to find these limited-edition Pikachu during the time period of this celebration.

In addition, from the afternoon of December 30, 2016, through the afternoon of January 8, 2017 (PST), the first partner Pokémon and their Evolutions, originally discovered in the Kanto region, are more likely to be encountered. This means a greater chance to catch Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur, as well as Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard, plus Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise! As a way to increase your chance to encounter one of these Pokémon, Lure Modules will also last for 60 minutes instead of 30 minutes.

Yep no incubator for me. They're having a sale on incubators, though, 125 each vs 150 (and 10 great balls per 2-incubator pack). I spend $100 a month on incubators. I had already gotten 10 incubators so this got me 14 extra ones for the same coins :banana:

First time great and ultra balls are in the Pokestore.

It turns out the event stared around 9-10 AM Pacific time. If you got your daily spin bonus before that time you won't get an free incubator until Dec 26, on your first spin of the day.

A poorly worded announcement but what else is new?

Whoa! Do you also get the 100 coins every 21 hours?

How close to a complete Pokedex are you? I had about ten to go before the babies showed up.

I also missed out on the freebie the first day. Who knew that treating it like Christmas morning and trying to get your present right away would exclude you?

I'm still playing, having terrible luck getting any 10k eggs from Pokestops. Maybe it's because I'm using one of the walking hacks, to walk wherever. It's mainly annoying because I'm trying to get the last two I need that are currently available, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee.

I was in Paris, France during the holidays and I have to say that city is full of Pokestops and Gyms. I had access of my cell phone and data and even though I haven't played in months, I played and walked more than when I was playing during the summer. I also caught a Mr. Mime so there's that too.

I'm still playing, but I feel like I'm in a rut. It has been quite a while since I have actually found something new in the wild. I was lucky enough to hatch two of the new ones in the recent promotion, but that's about it. So, it's just hoping to be lucky with hatching eggs or trying to add a bunch of candy via the walking buddy.

As the game has continued, I've realized that certain gyms consistently stay on one team. I have one character that has been at a particular gym since around Black Friday and another that has been at a gym since around Christmas. I find it surprising because one of those gyms is located just a short walk from another gym that sees far more turnover. The difference is one requires a short walk while the other is accessible from the parking lot. As for the other gym, it's at a popular restaurant, so I've always been surprised it stays one color for so long. It's nice to have that constant coin source, but I'm getting ready to level up for a second time since placing that one around Thanksgiving time. It would be nice to be able to upgrade it.

The Eevee evolution trick works for the gen 2's also.

Renaming to Sakura gets you Espeon.
Renaming to Tamao gets you Umbreon.

Sentret appears to be the new Rattata. He's freaking everywhere.

It's supposed to be in the 60's here in the Chicagoland area this weekend (in February!) so we're hoping to get out and make some good progress on our Pokedexes.

Update

Still playing, have caught all but one of the Unown, you have to catch A-Z...thanks to the discord app and the PokeExperience channel, have been able to get coordinates for all that.

Also was able to get two shiny Magikarps, evolved one to red Gyrados, pretty cool! :)

I haven't seen a single Unown around me, nor a shiny.

But I still log in everyday to at least get the daily bonuses. The events really make it more exciting, but I'm still happy to be able to experience this world in some way (I never got into the core game series, but I enjoyed the anime and other games).

Hatched 3 eggs today. My 10km hatched a second Dratini (yes!), and my 2kms gave me a Nidoran (Male) and a Slugma. Bleh.

Made over 1.2 mill in XP during the event just from evolving my pidgies. 3/4 of the way to level 34. Pokedex stands at 203 caught, 223 seen.
