I dropped way more than I should have (around $60...) since I had iTunes cards to burn. Most packs I've bought have had 2 or 3 characters, and the rest of the cards turned into shards.

I'm presently saving for the 4x chromium from Arena rewards and other crystal rewards, should have it by the weekend or early next week. I'm sure it will be a bunch of ewock shards, though, lol.

Yeah, I think the packs they sell are some of the most overpriced I've seen in a F2P game yet.

I'm just going to keep grinding it out for now. Hopefully once I open up GW that will help me progress better.

Even better, they'll drop Jar Jar on us right before you are ready to buy and you'll get him instead. He'll also be the first character that doesn't have an Attack skill.

I'd pay real money for Jar Jar if he attacked with his tongue.

Didn't you hear? Jar Jar is really a Sith Lord in disguise. :lol:

I'm still grinding away. I'll finally get Sidious tomorrow. Yay! I still don't get shit from the bronze packs either.

He just gets a taunt skill but he only has 1HP.

That's pretty much how Poe Dameron works until you start beefing him up.

Finally finished my first Galactic War campaign! That means 15 Luminara shards today and some awesome bonuses! Sucks that the shard I got was just stupid Lobot.

Managed to get my first character from a Bronze pack, IG-100. I guess he sucks, but whatever, it's only my 4th dark side character, so he'll get along with the other sucky ones I got.

Level cap increase tomorrow afternoon. 70 is the new 60.

I hope they do a cheap character bundle to coincide with it.

I finally pulled something decent from a bronze pack - IG-86. Only 1* however, but he's a good offensive support character for PVP. Better than the shit I normally get.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Update is live. Here are the patch notes: https://forums.galaxy-of-heroes.star...14-2016#latest

The only real things that matter to sub-60 players like the majority of us are:

- Credit Droids will no longer drop from daily login rewards or challenges, they will instead be replaced with their credit equivalent.

- Princess Leia has had her ability Hair Trigger fixed to match the description. There was previously a bug that would allow this ability to attack up to 4 times instead of the intended 3.

- The icons for Darth Maul’s abilities Raging Storm and Whirling Blades were incorrect and have now been swapped.

- Kylo Ren’s ability Ragged Cut can no longer apply a damage over time effect if the attack is dodged.

- Chewbacca will no longer taunt if he is the last standing character in a squad.

Hearing the the GW Retreat option has been neutralized because it resets the enemy team completely. Maybe this was intentional, maybe not. It definitely removes strategy and means you'll need a full roster to compete.

Nice...

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

This update sucks. They've made it much harder to farm shards by only allowing 3 battles at a time in campaign mode on a given battle. Considering the shit drop rates anyway, it will now take literally forever without crystals to level up. The cash grab begins (or worsens).

pinata242 01-14-16 03:45 PM

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

I don't see any changes like that. Hard campaign battles have always been 3/day. Normal and cantina are still unlimited.

Then it's me that sucks :(

BTW, after the update, it signed me out of Google play and I had to go through that awful tutorial again. There needs to be some sort of cancel function for that.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Yeah, that's not any different than before, and yes it sucks. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't cost 12 energy, that's just ridiculous.

What the fuck. So do they gradually go up to 16? Just when I was trying to think positive at how at least I'll have a (slightly) higher energy capacity so I'll be able to farm more.

I think this game is really moving away hard from F2P. I'm seriously deciding whether to continue at this point. I doubt I'll ever be anything more than a low-average player without investing serious coin. I tried to join a guild and they said there was a $100/wk spend requirement. No thanks.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

$100 a WEEK!?! I can't imagine spending $100 a month on any game yet alone some BS F2P mobile time killer.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Campaigns 1-4 are 6 & 12 energy (normal & hard, respectively).
Campaigns 5-6 (and maybe 7-8) are 8 & 16 energy.

Cantina changes from 8 to 10 energy in level 3.

All the rewards scale too. Some of the shards are repeats. You don't have to do everything, but it can give more chances for those shards you want or that gear you need.

Should the costs be constant? Does that make sense?

It just shows that the game hooks you early and then compels you to spend money or get crushed by similar L60s-70s that are spending money on the game. I think I may get out before that happens.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Developer commented on the surprise GW retreat change:

Hey everyone,
I'm REALLY sorry that the GW Retreat change went live without any announcement.

The explanation for how that happened is embarrassing - we assembled patch notes from a list of data changes, but the GW Retreat change was a server change. Server releases are always handled separately from data releases from a technical perspective, but sometimes they happen to occur on the same day. We are going to have a meeting to discuss how we can GUARANTEE that important server change with player-facing consequences are not released without accompanying patch notes again.

I wrote something to add to the patch notes, but I'm going to let Jesse edit his own post in a few minutes, so until then here's the explanation:

The functionality of Retreat has been changed so that it behaves the same as force-quitting the app. While we understand that many players relied on Retreating as part of their strategy, ultimately there were two different ways to leave a battle that didn’t behave the same way (Retreating, and force-quitting the app). We decided that in order to keep the experience fair and consistent, we would change the behavior of Retreat to work the same as force-quitting.

:shrug: I think you're being overly-dramatic here. I've been playing for a month. I've spent $0. I was about to hit the 60 cap myself. I have a few 5* characters with purple gear.

I'm currently ranked #349 in my PvP and that's because I haven't really been trying to rank up until lately. I've been fine coasting to stay in the top 1000.

In fact, I'd be doing a lot better if I didn't save 2500 crystals for the 8x pack but would have just done energy refreshes. That's been pretty lucrative in the last few days. It's all about purple gear farming.

I don't mean to be dramatic. I've only been playing since last weekend so maybe I'll give it some more time.

How did you get 5*? Shard farming? I haven't even opened up GW yet (only L38) so maybe that will change things for me.

I'm also frustrated that I'm getting nothing out of Bronze packs when people are getting 4* super characters.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

From the PvP Squad Arena, just finish your 3 battles a day (+100) and try to be top 1000 (+500). That's 600 credits a day which means you will get 15 Sidious shards every two days. It won't take long to unlock the 4* version then 5* will follow shortly.

Luminara is your goal from GW, but that is a little more stingy unless you can consistently progress far as the rewards are 100, 100, 200, 200, 200, 400 every other node. This means if you can finish 8 battles a day in that, you're looking at the same drop rate for her as Sidious above. Plus you can farm her shards from Hard battles to slightly speed up the process.

Cantina is even slower as, unless you do energy refreshes, you can only really get 5 shards every other day (of course leveling up gives bonus energy, but I'm only leveling every 2-3 days now). This sucks because I really want many of the characters in there but it's soooooo slow this way. Some of the characters can be farmed separately too, so that's nice.

Easier said than done depending on your server. I hit the wall at about 2000, and have to keep constantly increasing power ranking to even stay steady.

Well I have to GET Sidious first from shards as he's never dropped for me. So he'll only be 1* when I get him the first time :(

I'll be honest, I have no idea how that segregation works or when you're attacked or what happens when you lose on defense. It seems very inconsistent to me.

You buy Sidious from the Arena store. He will start at 4* when you unlock him.

Are you using the "Find" feature for characters and gear you're going for?

I'm spending my area credits on purchasing 5 Sidious shards at a time. Is that not the right way to do it?

Definitely using find, that's how I got the players I have to level 5 gear.

pinata242 01-14-16 04:44 PM

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

That's absolutely correct. As I recall, it costs 80 to unlock him? That's a 4* character.

10 = 1*
25 = 2*
50 = 3*
80 = 4*

But upgrading is a different scale:

15 -> 2*
25 -> 3*
30 -> 4*
65 -> 5*
85 -> 6*
100 -> 7*

Edit: Well, I guess it's the same scale, just a summation of the upgrades. Rest assured that you're not farming useless shards before you unlock a character. Yes, it would be nice to have him earlier than 80 shards, but the end result is the same.

BTW, thanks Pinata for all the help you are giving us. Honestly I would be pretty lost without your resource. I understand alot more clearly with your answers. Props.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Agreed. Pinata is full of knowledge bombs. I think once I get Sidious and Luminara I'll be in a much better position.

It'd be really nice if we could see our opponents lineup in the arena before hand, but I guess that's part of the strategy.
