Favorite controller?
so out of all the systems, out of all the controllers...which one have you loved the best, even if it's third-party?
i've been playing with the DualShock 4 recently and think it is terrible compared to the XBOX One contoller. i don't know what it is, but i like the One so much better, especially for FPS's.
so i was thinking of all the controllers i've used, which one i prefer. and while i love the simplicity and retro (well, now) feel to the NES controller, i still think the One controller is the best i've used and most natural/comfortable...
i do also love the Wavebird for Gamecube!

you?

DS4 is hands down my favorite of all time. Can't stand the XO controller, specifically the stiff bumpers and sticks that feel too loose for my taste.
I did hear they addressed the bumpers when they added the headphone jack, so I'd like to pick one if the redesigned controllers up to use with the PC.

I like both the new rubberized Xbox One controller (with the long-overdue 3mm headphone jack) and the DS3 DS4. The buttons and triggers on the XO are great. The touch pad on the DS3 DS4 provides a lot of functionality that I miss on the XO controller.
So it's a tie.

The 360 and One controllers are my favorites. They're don't feel too big or small and have all the buttons you should need. I might give the slight edge to the One just because it's a bit more sleek. For retro consoles I preferred the Genesis controller. A bit bigger than the NES controller with more buttons (never had an SNES so can't compare it really but it seems similar to the Genesis). The NES always felt too small to me after using other controllers.

Oh yeah, I guess I was one iteration off, thought the Dualshock started with the PS2. Sorry. Dualshock 4.

I never had the old NSE and SNES systems and therefor never get the nostalgia for old Nintendo controllers. They look uncomfortable and not-at-all ergonomic for people with hands bigger than a ten-year-old's.

#1. 360 - controller is sheer perfection.
#2. Gamecube - Wavebird comes in at #2
#3. PS4 - DualShock 4 is a surprise this high considering the DS3 is damn near the worst. The adjusted handles really 'shifted' the analogs despite them not moving. Impressive design.
Other notes: I'm a convert, I would always preach the AA lifestyle on the 360, but absolutely love the lithium batteries in the DS4 and WiiU controllers. Nothing like dropping the controller on a dock after a session and never worrying about batteries.
Xbox One - only spent a couple hours playing it, but I'm not a fan of the analog shift(falls under the thumb joint vs. the thumbprint on the 360 for me). Also the bumpers are awkward. As someone who has the 360 pad as #1, it's a shame they felt they had to redesign what was already perfect.

Re: Favorite controller?
Is the general consensus that the ps4 controller is better than the xbox one?
I'm likely going to pick one of the two up this winter and that would likely swing me toward the ps4.

This. I've always liked the dog-bone design, I found it comfortable. Now if only I could find an NES 2 for a tolerable price-point.
Since I'm right-handed, I used my right hand on the analog stick for the N64 and held the controller in a weird way as a kid, so I never got used to the left stick as a result

Re: Favorite controller?
Yeah the NES controller being so tiny makes it hard to handle for long period of time if you ask me. Great console overall but I can only play these days for so long without my hands feeling cramped up.

Re: Favorite controller?
General consensus is that the DS4 is way better than the DS3. DS4 vs XO is personal preference. They both have strengths. The XO has trigger motors that provide some useful force feedback in racing games. The DS4 has a large touchpad which I find really helpful with open world game maps. Mostly it comes down to comfort. Go to Best Buy and play some demos wih each controller and see which you like better.
