Re: Favorite controller?

I don't like how the Playstation controllers invert the analog stick and d-pad. I have never been able to get used to that. So for that reason alone I have always preferred Xbox controllers.

Re: Favorite controller?

The X1 controller is damn near perfect, IMO. I prefer the offset thumb sticks to the "in line" design of the DS4.

Since the Dual Shock predates the Duke, they didn't invert the sticks, Xbox did.

Dualshock 4.

The Xbox One controller is fucking horrible. The 360 controller was fantastic, so how did they end up with this POS?

I know the DS is older, but you know what I mean. The "feel" is inverted when you have the left analog stick not directly opposite the right side ABXY buttons. Before analog controls, the d-pad was used to control movement, and the d-pad was always situated directly opposite the ABXY buttons. That was a natural feel with your thumbs in direct opposite positions. However, with the DS controller, you had to use your left thumb is a different position and it just felt awkward to me. I have used every DS controller since the original, and they all feel awkward to me. I have never gotten used to it. The Xbox putting the analog stick where the d-pad used to be was a massive improvement.

Re: Favorite controller?

Whether I am using the Xbox or PS controllers, the placement of the left stick is not something that ever even crosses my mind while I am playing. It feels perfectly fine either way to me.

Exactly. The thumb joint can easily and comfortably pivot between the two positions. I never hear anyone complain how difficult it is to move the right thumb from the buttons to the stick, so how is it any less comfortable to have your left thumb at a 45 degree angle than at a 30 degree angle? I think a lot of that perceived improved comfort is just in their heads.

I'm really curious why you think so. I think they feel about the same and I like not having that bulky battery pack in the back of the controller crowding my fingers in anymore. Besides that improvement, it seems pretty much the same to me.

Re: Favorite controller?

Unless you are pressing them on the outer edges, the bumpers are incredibly stiff and unwieldy. And the other problem I have is with the left analog stick. I think it is because of how hard I push on the stick but I have two controllers and both of them I have problems with the stick getting hung up around the edges, so a lot of times in a game I will get stuck and my character can't move until I let the stick go nuetral to reset it.

Re: Favorite controller?

Yeah, the bumpers on the XB1 controller suck compared to the 360. The triggers also suck on anything other than racing games. They just have a weird cushion feel to them.

I think the xbox one controller feels cheap when you hold it. Also the shell must not be attached well as both of my second gen controllers make creaking noises.

Re: Favorite controller?

This is the 1st generation where I actually like the controller that comes with both systems.
  1. Xbox 360
  2. Xbox One
  3. Sony DS4
  4. Xbox S controller

Others:
  • Wavebird (cannot remember if I liked the Nintendo version or and aftermarket one) Been too long so can't place it in a numbered list
  • Logitech Wireless Xbox controller
  • Logitech Wireless PS2 controller
  • Power A PS3 controller
  • Interact Genesis
  • Interact Saturn

Honorable Mention:
  • Gamecube Controller
  • Wii/Wii U Pro controller

Re: Favorite controller?

Despite a less than perfect D-pad, the Xbox 360 is my favorite in terms of design and comfort. That's followed by the PS4 controller, then a little bit further down the list is the Xbox One controller.

The NES, SNES, and Game Cube controllers had their perks but are now uncomfortable to me, the N64 controller worked surprisingly well but was kind of all over the place.

Re: Favorite controller?

360 is my favorite. The One is pretty solid; the bumpers bugged me at first, but i've since gotten used to the feel of it and now it feels awkward when I use the 360 controller on PC.

Haven't used a PS4 enough, but the DS4 feels pretty great.

Now that I have come into possession of the Xbox One Elite controller, I want to follow this up and say that the Elite addresses and indeed fixes both of these problems. The bumpers are outstanding and can be pressed easily anywhere. And the stick doesn't hang on the edges anymore and actually feels buttery smooth all around. VERY impressed with this controller.

Re: Favorite controller?

DS4 followed closely by the DS3 with the triggers attached. I cannot stand the Xbox controllers and it is why I have never gotten any X system. Very uncomfortable and just awful. If I could use the Playstation controllers with the Microsoft system (with no issues) I would consider getting one of their systems. Until then I will continue with Sony.

I was a big fan of the Sega Genesis controller.
