I think if you put a little more thought into your posts and wrote them so that they actually encourage discussion, people wouldn't be so quick to turn on them. The obvious answer to why we play video games is because we like them. If you had asked what is it that we like about video games and then discussed some possible options (they're challenging, good for blowing off steam, social activity w/friends), the response might be different. The underlying question isn't really any different, but it comes off as less stone-y and encourages more thoughtful conversation.

I like to see other worlds and stories being fleshed out due to my actions. Even on-rails shooters typically have instances of cause and effect, making my choices interesting. Games like Fallout that have serious results to my actions are even better.
It's one form of relaxing entertainment I have, along with watching a movie or reading.

I can only imagine how lax New York's teaching requirements and standards must be if this guy can get a job educating youth.
