Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

This has been sitting on my shelf since last November. Currently working my way through Bloodborne and this is the next game on my list. Just watched the IGN review and it got me very excited to get into this. Never played a DS game before, but this looks very similar to Bloodborne and that game is proving amazing.

Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

Dark Souls 3 is the first DS game I really tried to put time into since I loved Bloodborne so much. Dark Souls is not Bloodborne nor vice versa. But it is fun in it's own right, and it's kind of nice to have a slightly easier game after the occasional spikes in difficulty that came with Bloodborne. Just don't expect Bloodborne 1.5.

Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

I thought Bloodborne was easier DS3, but then I'm more in my element with BB's quicker style of evading rather than DS's slower style of blocking.

As for the games themselves, I just liked the world, and especially the map/layout of Bloodborne over any DS game - I like how it all links up, and it feels like there was more thought put into it.

Saw this earlier.

I recently bought a new gaming laptop and decided to restart this game w/ the Humble Bundle deal going on (I never finished it originally). It took me 9 hours to get to the 45 minute mark in that video

Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

Hello All

I didn't realize just how long ago the last post on this was.....being highly acclaimed game it was though more posts would've been done....

The game is on sale in the PS Store this month for the excellent price of $14.00 from ($60) and I've been giving this a thought. I played Bloodborne and though didn't complete it probably did about 75% of it getting constantly stuck on one PITA Boss...loved the look, style, play....

A friend of mine who has completed both said I should get the game and well worth it...but...I've seen some videos of gameplay footage and maybe it's me but seems the fighting battling is a bit faster....the pace fighting wise in Bloodborne was about right...well most the time...

So to those who have played both...does that sound about right but other than that the character build part is almost parallel to each other along with upgrading and resources. I've been dying to get back to Bloodborne but seeing this at that price, might be too good to pass. But would like to hear from those who have played as to the pros, cons and comparisons....

...oh, If I do get this this, tips on first character to aim for...so far it seems a split between Knight and Pyromancer though many feel The Warrior Class is best all-around....

Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

I still haven't finished this but I liked what I've played a lot, but yeah it's very different than Bloodborne (my favorite game this gen) but also imo not as punishing and with a little more variety. Combat is a little faster and the world map, while awesomely atmospheric, isnt quite as impressive it's still a thoroughly impressive game.

Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

I DL it last night...the $14.00 (thru end of April) too good to pass and plus two other friends have played it and said they will join in....

...so does the co-op part work like Bloodborne?....do you need a relic, stone, gem to invite or go to someone else game?
...invasions....I didn't care at all how they worked in Bloodborne because we just wanted to play together, sometimes 2-3 us and we loved doing the Chalice Dungeons. But the invasions became a pain and almost right on cue...we jump in a game together and just stand there waiting because it was always like 5 minutes later an Invader show up and so we have to deal with them or keep them at bay while doing the main area.....can you be invaded anytime....anyway to turn it off....happens solo or with friends playing?

I've been strictly solo and never have been invaded, but I've also been playing it on a PC.

To co-op with other player you need the white sign soapstone which you can buy from the Shrine Handmaid for 500 souls. If you want friend to join you you need to be embered and go Network setting and pick a password you friend should match, make sure you have Matchmaking is on. Look for the white sign on floor to summon friend into your world.

Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

Naw not really, the difficulty is overrated - once you figure out how to play and how weapon upgrades work properly it's not bad at all save for an optional boss deep deep into the game.

for the type of game it is there is an incredible amount of customization. There are also a lot of ways to gain assistance if you do get stuck.

ok. thanks Rich.

so, if I liked Witcher 3, safe bet I’d like this, right? And The Fire Fades Edition is all I need?

Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

I guess $12 (including s&h) for the blah disc version, deluxe edition too, isn’t too bad if I wind up not liking.

I just thought from this thread and others like it, referring to it as a “Souls” game, which I thought meant frustratingly difficult, but rewarding after awhile.

I’m can finish a game, but I always have some difficulty which y’all know I bitch and moan here, so I figured save everyone the headache.

And figured it’d be so hard, I’d give up after a session.

But, if similar to Witcher, 3, at least, then I’m a def go, plus this looks so freaking fantastic. I can imagine playing well on current gens.

Plus, a lot of games now a days are making them with more and more RPG elements (even if light) with all the upgrading and customizing to keep things looking and feeling fresh.

Even a game like Borderlands, which has no business including rpg elements does and does it incredibly well. So much so a simpleton like me can figure out, play, enjoy and finish.
Sure, Borderlands not deep, but light and you know it’s there and easy to figure out.

Figure DS3 is just more hardcore RPG with action elements. I dunno, but the IGN review didn’t mention frustratingly difficult, loved it and it looked so damn good and right up my alley in style and gorgeousness!

This makes sound rewarding, but brutal…

Re: Dark Souls 3 (PS4 & Xbox One)

It's just old school, like nes/snes games where you had to adapt to an enemy's pattern to beat em. There's a lot of memorization in these games for both enemies and maps and that part is incredibly rewarding.

There is surprisingly little grinding to level up as well, granted you don't keep losing an abundance of souls over and over again.

Ok, ok. Sounds cool. Not losing much, just rush it weren’t disc. Games today are still memorization if moves and bosses. Hasn’t that always been the way?

Some more than others, a lot you can brute force your way through or its only a single element you need to remember

Now, if Dark Souks 3 (or any game) gets optimized, that goes for disc version too, right?
