I think there should be a rule at E3 that you can't hype/show a game for two straight years. You get one chance to showcase it and then it is on you to release it. Two straight years of footage of games that are still not released.

Of all the things at E3 so far, I wouldn't put Call of Duty DLC in the top 20.

Not sure what's so hilarious about this thread either, but chess gonna chess.

Pretty sure backward compatability on Xbox One blows away lame DLC on a tired franchise switching exclusivity. If you truly think the COD thing is the biggest news, you are completely delusional.

I agree with this. You also shouldn't be able to show off gameplay from a game that comes out next week. Only exception is if that game release date was never announced and they announce date at show.

There is no excuse for either console to not have BC right from the start. This is an announcement that should have been made three years ago so I'm not impressed by it. Let's get on with the new games.

Technical limitations and development time seem like a pretty good excuse to me, but consumers seem to not care about that facet or think it's something easy to put together.

My understanding is that the second Mattrick was gone they got to work on the feature.

I'm sure it all came down to corporate decision, not technical limitations and development time. It's not like anything troubled Sony or MS from having BC on the PS3/360. In the case of the PS3 they went cheap and removed the feature fairly quickly.

My guess is that someone brainstormed it as a way of boosting the playability of the system, as new games have been coming out fairly slowly so far this gen.

Maybe a corporate decision to not spend the time and money to develop, but to say there aren't technical limitations just tells me you're not aware of the technical differences between generations and the fact that the 360 and One use entirely different architectures (PowerPC vs x86). That's why the original XBox emulation was so half assed for the 360, and why the PS3 needed full blown PS2 hardware inside for it to work. It's not easy to do via software, and there's really no question or debate about that.

Last Guardian looked great ... as long as I don't have to listen to that kid say the same thing all game

Horizon was a surprise .... but I've seen how bad GG can be with story/characters (looking at you KZ4) .. we'll see

still not feeling NMS

more Destiny is always a good thing

Uncharted 4 just continues to blow my already blown mind ... this can't come soon enough

It certainly doesn't matter to me or most folks on here, but CoD is unfathomably huge...for reasons I can't fully understand or explain. Maybe Xbox will remain the home for dude mcshooter bros, but any progress Sony can make opens up a whole new market for them. It's a big deal. Bigger than any of their exclusives, which were mostly just fan service. Last Guardian might sell a million copies...maybe.

And while BC sounds great on paper, you won't use it. On PS3, I used it for two games (SotC and Okami) and ended up buying remasters of both anyway.

Not sure what's so hilarious about this thread either, but chess gonna chess.
You could start with the stupid title. Here's a tongue in cheek jab at MS to make some non-point about yourself apparently, and as a bonus, it makes the forum look like a joke to those who aren't in on whatever meta you're trying to accomplish.

Maybe hilarious isn't the right word.

For me personally, the BC annoucement of MS pushes me over the edge on getting a One. I have a couple hundred digital games on the 360. If I am able to use most of them on the One, then it makes it an easy decision to upgrade.

Okay now the thread is hilarious.

Have you seen any of the other forum thread titles here in Video Game Talk by chance? Did you look at the image in the first post at all?

Re: The Official E3 Thread of Xbox One Superiority - June 16-18, 2015

Yeah what's sad is Microsoft had a better presentation not because of the games, Halo 5 and more Gears of War just do nothing for me, but because they announced BC, a ridiculous controller, and various other things that, while I won't be spending money on many of them, were at least interesting.

Sony's presentation was just limp. Shenmue III! ... Kickstarter.

On the bright side, if they were just gauging interest in Shenmue III via Kickstarter, they succeeded, it passed $2.1m this morning.

I wonder where the rest of the money is going to come from for Shenmue. Sony already said they have nothing to do with it, and Sega doesn't have money. And there's no way that game gets made for 2 mil.

He has zero sense of humor. Gotta defend the PS4 to the last dying breath.

If it is so terrible here, chess, leave and never come back. Not sure if you have been here or not lately, which shows how little some of care about you.

I'm sure they have some independent financiers. Though honestly a game like Shenmue could be done fairly inexpensively these days, the tech that was incredible back in the DC days is now absolutely nothing.

I hope he doesn't plan on reusing assets.

Oh Square Enix, when will you ever learn....

LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2015) – At Sony Computer Entertainment of America LLC’s (SCEA) E3 press conference today, SQUARE ENIX® announced that it has begun production on the full remake of FINAL FANTASY® VII for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system.

Leading the development will be key members from the original project, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.
So, you'll be playing this in 2018, probably.

Hopefully by then they'll know to not have a crappy voice over. I love the atmosphere of Final Fantasy 7, something that was very much missing from the CG movies that followed it. I hope they don't botch that aspect.

Re: The Official E3 Thread of Xbox One Superiority - June 16-18, 2015

So far, Fallout 4 and Dark Souls 3 are the only things from this E3 that I find exciting/surprising. I get that game announcements tend to get made early due to the long development cycles, but it makes everything fairly anticlimatic. For most titles coming out this year, we’re already familiar enough with them that there’s not much left to reveal. For stuff that’s new, we won’t be playing it for so long that it’s hard to care at this point. Both consoles are promising stuff next year that we expected long before (looking at you Cuphead & The Last Guardian).

BC on Xbone would have been a big deal to me at launch, but two years in is past the point where I really care. I can see how it’d be nice for those who sat out on the 360, but I doubt many outside that group will make much use of it. While the current gen has been sparser on quality games than I’d like, it has had a steady enough trickle to keep me entertained and I haven’t turned on my 360 for about a year.

Re: The Official E3 Thread of Xbox One Superiority - June 16-18, 2015

Okay, I watched the whole Sony conference last night. Uncharted looks beautiful and fun, but that glitch was pretty embarrassing. At least it confirms it was an actual LIVE demo.
Last Guardian... ehh. For all the internet hype, that was a pretty boring demo. I agree with others about the style not working for me, but maybe that's because it's still very much in development. I have a feeling we won't see a game until 2018.
FF7 "begun production"? So, we'll see it on PS5. side-note: did that FF7 PC-port come out that they announced last year? I haven't bothered looking it up on my PS4.
Shenmue 3: Without 1 & 2 being re-released (unless I missed it?), I don't get the point. Kickstarter is obviously not to FUND it fully, it's to gauge interest, and there's a LOT of interest. Still, I wouldn't bother playing it until getting a chance to tackle 1 & 2, so...
COD: BO3 DLC - yeah, it's a big deal. Are XO folks going to "jump ship" for that reason alone? I'm not convinced, but it's still a big win for Sony.
Too much "first to get the Beta" and "exclusive DLC for a limited time/forever" bullshit. I care less and less about this stuff as time goes by. Just give me a game that's worth playing.
No Man's Sky, shown AGAIN with no release date. For fuck's sake. Game looks beautiful, but boring. Not my cup of tea.
I want to know more about Horizon. I really should lock in my pre-order to get a bit of a discount. CAD prices are fucking stupid right now. Nearly all of these new games are being listed at $80, purely to deter Americans from importing.

I saw a comment elsewhere, and I'm wondering how true it is (I'm guessing... not very):

"Best part of Sony's presentation: virtually nothing shown requires you to buy a PS4."

I can't really agree or disagree with the above, since I wasn't paying too close attention to which titles were fully PS4 exclusive. Anyone have this information? I think the above person is wrong.

Like the Giant Bomb guys said last night, Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be the new Last Guardian. It'll be forever before they show more/release that thing.

Re: The Official E3 Thread of Xbox One Superiority - June 16-18, 2015

I've liked nearly everything shown by both companies at this point. I really don't have any interest in declaring a "winner". My only point of irritation, as mentioned above, is showing something for multiple years. I'm thrilled they are working on a FFVII remake but I'm sure it'll be displayed at next years E3...and the other after that....and probably the one after that.
