I wonder if these shenanigans will have an effect on MGS V: Phantom Pain.

Oh, also, the video is back up.

Looks like Konami's going through the Streisand effect.

I wouldn't count Nintendo completely out considering how they rescued Bayonetta 2 and The Devil's Third. An advantage with, say, Contra is that it could fill gaps that Nintendo currently isn't filling. I'd be more likely to consider Nintendo as a contender if there were a game in some level of development already or if an established team were attached, though.

This doesn't seem to be just a changing our business thing however. Konami literally shit on business partners, like Kojima, who have worked with them forever. The rumors coming out is that CEO Kagemaza Kozuki is batshit crazy.

One does have to wonder though why they put all that effort into FOX engine development, which they planned to use for a long time to come, and then dropped their games.

They even delisted themselves from the NYSE. They certainly know something we don't!

To be fair, though, Konami reported that trades of their stock in the U.S accounted for 0.3% of the worldwide volume -- that's practically a rounding error -- and they were paying at least $5 million a year in compliancy costs. The numbers just don't make any sense to keep trading on the NYSE.

You can see the filing here, if you're looking to put yourself to sleep.

It's not the move I question, it's the timing.

I wonder if Konami has the balls to remove PT from users Hard Drives? Remember It has happened before when Amazon Erased 1984 from Kindles

Re: Konami Has Gone Crazy

I'm not sure if I'd put this whole thing on Konami. Or, I mean, I kinda get where they're coming from. Triple-A game development/production/cost has gotten out of hand, and plenty of those games don't return enough money. I'm guessing they did the numbers for Silent Hills and saw that they wouldn't make enough money for how much it was going to cost them. Sure, they're being dicks too, maybe more so, but if I were running a company that consistently lost money on increasingly expensive projects, I'd cut the cord as well.

It doesn't cost them anything to keep Kojima's name on his own game.

Wasn't that a case of a "publisher" illegally distributing that title without properly licensing it? Kind of a different thing...

Re: Konami Has Gone Crazy

YOU MOTHERFUCKERS LOVE FREE-TO-PLAY?

"We will pursue mobile games aggressively," says Konami's new CEO Hayakawa in an interview with Nikkei Trendy Net.

"Our main platform will be mobiles. Following the pay-as-you-play model of games like Power pro and Winning Eleven with additional content, our games must move from selling things like "items" to selling things like "features."

"We saw with these games that even people who buy physical games are motivated to buy extra content. The success of Power pro especially has motivated us to actively push more of our popular series onto mobile than ever before."

"Gaming has spread to a number of platforms, but at the end of the day, the platform that is always closest to us, is mobile. Mobile is where the future of gaming lies."

"We hope that our overseas games such as MGSV and Winning Eleven continue to do well, but we are always thinking about how to push our franchises onto mobile there too."

"With multiplatform games, there's really no point in dividing the market into categories anymore. Mobiles will take on the new role of linking the general public to the gaming world."

That doesn't sound crazy, that sounds pretty smart for them, actually.

Re: Konami Has Gone Crazy

It is smart. It's just too bad that things like Metal Gear and Silent Hills may not continue on as full-fledged games.
