re: LEGO Dimensions (Multi-Console, 9/27/2015)

My six year old (who is obsessed with LEGO) kept asking me if he could use his LEGOs to make anything he wanted (using any of the bricks) and if it would show up in the game.

He was disappointed.

This game is brilliant. It's going to print money for them. I'm in if the gameplay is better than Infinity.

It's telling when a large adult can step on a tiny Lego piece and it's the adult that gets broken.

re: LEGO Dimensions (Multi-Console, 9/27/2015)

Is the chip in the base (meaning you don't really need to build squat to get it to work) or somehow in the pieces themselves?

I love lego, but their recent foray into scanning built pieces into the computer didn't exactly blow me away, and I don't really want to have to try to build stuff like Infinity toybox with controllers unless they really revamp the experience. I also love the lego games and wouldn't mind a mashup, but then it really would be blatant paid figure DLC.

Probably the former. I was basically in for Back to the Future, but Portal 2? Hell yeah! Hopefully they do expansions differently than Skylanders and Infinity. Only having expansions unlockable on disc limits the expansion possibilities.

re: LEGO Dimensions (Multi-Console, 9/27/2015)

Are you talking about like downloadable expansions (instead of being on disk)? Because it certainly sounds like you can't play levels without the level packs, and you can't have the characters/vehicles without the fun packs or whatever they're going to be called. So a lego game bridging the universes with really expensive DLC. Man those Toys for Bob guys should have patented "physical DLC" because if this were paid digital DLC we'd all be complaining, but make me buy a portal and a bunch of figures I have no room for and profit.

Heck, with Nintendo, there's not even a lot of real functionality built around them, and they're tied to one game at a time to boot... and they are flying off the shelves. Ugh I'm such a sheep...

However, make me some of the rarer DC figures, like a Shazam, and I'm in, no complaining.

I'm buying it but when it's on sale. My son loves Infinity so I'm sure he will get a kick out of it.

BTTF, The Simpsons, and Jurassic World for me.

Me too. Would probably have to cancel my new car to afford it, but would totally be worth it!

I'm guessing other big IPs Lego licensed like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Marvel, and Harry Potter will be in Dimensions 2.0.

I would bet that all of the above except for Harry Potter are kept out of this by Disney to avoid taking business away from Disney Infinity. Also, no way we get Marvel and DC characters in the same game.

re: LEGO Dimensions (Multi-Console, 9/27/2015)

haha, I'm staying far, far away from this one. It's too tempting to go down that rabbit hole. I already see the things that the Amiibos and Disney Infinity toys do to people, and I really don't need that in my house.

re: LEGO Dimensions (Multi-Console, 9/27/2015)

The thing that will keep me away from this is if the portal has to be connected to the console. I got Skylanders as my free PS4 launch title through Amazon, picked up a bunch of figures on sales that holiday season and have played it precisely once. My setup isn't conducive to running a cable across the floor and it's not much fun to pop up every couple minutes to swap out what's on the base. If they make a wireless base for these, I'll likely be in for quite a few of the sets.

I'll definitely get DW and BTTF. I could see myself potentially also picking up The Simpsons, Portal 2, and some random characters like Unikitty.

A lot of them are Warner based properties; gotta have that corporate synergy going.

BBC, Fox, and Universal don't own video game publishers anymore, so it was just the matter of WB Games getting the license to use them.

I've managed to stay away from Disney Infinity and I hope that I'll manage to stay away from this despite the fact this set appeals more to me.

re: LEGO Dimensions (Multi-Console, 9/27/2015)

It will be interesting to see what happens. Skylanders and Infinity sets are often discounted significantly, but Lego sets never are. Wonder how the pricing adjusts if the items don't sell very well. Figure the market has to be close to saturated by now. My son is already pretty much burned out on Skylander collecting and didn't even want the last Infinity game when I offered to buy it for him.
