I played one race. I wasn't aware of how they would monetize it. I'm uninstalling right now.

Oh great they monetized Mario Kart? Although I don't really blame them. It seems like they might have left a lot of money on the table or had a lower user base with Mario run. I think they are just experimenting with what works for them in the mobile market. But $5/mo? That's crazy talk. They're whole Nintendo online only costs $20/year.

One of their most recent mobile games Dragalia Lost made 106 million in its first year which is more than most of their AAA games make at a fraction of the cost. Microtransactions are going to be all over every mobile game they make going forward.

Right. I love Mario Kart. I love Nintendo. My kids love both. I'll buy their switch games day one for full price. I could probably enjoy this game without buying a thing. But I deleted this game from my phone immediately after reading about the subscription because I'm not supporting that. I know it makes no difference and they're raking in the cash, but nope.

Same. I had no issue paying the $10(?) for Mario Run and definitely got my money's worth out of it. No way in hell I'll ever pay a sub for a mobile game.

$5 a month is ridiculous. Maybe if they offered $10 as a one time unlock fee and still offer a free to play option.

So somehow the driving actually feels worse from when I played the beta. I'm kinda wondering if they made it more sloppy so you have to put more time in it and retry more often now? Either way it's off my phone now.

Wow this seems like a huge fail from a gamers perspective. I don't think I have enough room on my phone to download and try it. Either way I don't really want to start if it's a microtransaction pay to win format.

They just introduced two subscription plans to Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. Nintendo getting that mobile monetization down pat. Pleasepleaseplease keep it there and don't tie it into the switch.

Thankfully, I don't think the JP market would stand for Switch games becoming freemium like mobile.

Are you talking about the publishers not standing for it? Because as far as pay as you go and DLC models go, stuff like Dead or Alive or some of the minor jrpgs are overfilled with that stuff. Gacha originates in Japan, after all.

No, I meant the consumers not standing for Nintendo games having it on their Switch titles. Could be wrong but I feel like that wouldn't play out well for them in their home market.
