Favorite Comic Book Games

The current Comic Book Challenge running now in the Comic Book Section got me to thinking. What are people's favorite comic book games?

I'll start. My two favorites are close to a tie, so I will list them both. I've been playing DC Universe Online since the games release, and also I've recently gotten into Injustice: Gods Among Us. I also have Arkham Asylum, but haven't gotten far enough into it to make a judgement on that game.

Re: Favorite Comic Book Games

It's weird, but despite being a comic book collector since the 1970s, and video games being my second favorite hobby, I've rarely played comic book games.

Perhaps it is my negative memories of this keeping me away.

Re: Favorite Comic Book Games

Arkham games: Nuff said.

X-Men: Arcade: One of the best beat em ups ever.

Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions: Fun and total love letter to Spiderman.

X-Men Legends: Both games are really great.

Marvel Super Heroes: Another great action rpg. Seriously they need to release another one again.

Justice League: Heroes: Sadly I have no idea why this never got any sequel.

X-Men Origins Wolverine: Easily the best Wolverine game ever.

The Punisher: Way too underrated game from the PS2 and XBox. Capture The Punisher perfectly and the interrogations were fun.

Spiderman 2: Great start for an open world game before screwing it up for several games after.

Batman: Great and hard NES game.

Adventures of Batman and Robin: SNES version. Feels like an actual episode of the cartoon with all the references and even looks like it as well.

Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu: Fun underrated beat em up.

Re: Favorite Comic Book Games

NES/SNES/Genesis comic games were mostly crap. It's gotten better in recent years though. I prefer Arkham City to Asylum and it may be my all-time favorite game based on a comic. Injustice was great while it lasted but got stale for me pretty quick. X-Men Legends on the original Xbox was a blast multiplayer.

And of course.... the 6-player X-men arcade cabinet.

Hulk Ultimate Destruction is a lot of fun. You can just run around, beating up the military if you want.

D'oh. Yeah don't know how I forgot that one. I'd also put Captain America: The first avenger in there as well. Fun game with good shield mechanics and a good framework that I wish they had continued in a second game.

My top two would likely be Spider-Man 2 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Re: Favorite Comic Book Games

I've played the three Arkham games (finished the stories, not 100%). The Tintin movie tie-in game was goofy and juvenile, but I liked it. This reminds me that I got the Marvel Heroes Alliance packaged with my 360 and never played it.

Re: Favorite Comic Book Games

It's loosely based on the world of the comic, but all the characters are specific to the game.

Re: Favorite Comic Book Games

All the Marvel vs. Capcom games. That's what Contest of Champions really makes me miss.

Freedom Force may not have been derived from an actual comic, but it's one of the best superhero comic book style games ever.

X-Men Legends/Ultimate Alliance got it right; I have no idea how it went so wrong with X-Men Destiny. Oh, I know, how about not letting you play as any of the actual X-men? So bad they destroyed all unsold copies (using the cover of a lawsuit or something... )

But seriously, give me a game where there's power progression featuring Marvel heroes in a beat-em-up, and I'm there. Infinity could have scratched this itch, and I wouldn't even have minded the DLC/figures, if they actually just made a dedicated game instead of a sandbox. As is, Lego Marvel is the closest we have to that.

Marvel Heroes is a PC game with a ton of microtransactions, right? Is there a way to win the various characters?
