Similar deal here. Any website I see that uses Onswipe's tech for mobile/tablet -- y'know, where you get redirected, the page semi-freezes as you see that spinning icon, and then you have to read everything horizontally like a magazine instead of scrolling up/down (assuming your browser doesn't crash) -- is an instant close.

A nice little opinion piece from Brian Crecente about Joystiq, with perspective as a competitor/rival being formerly of Kotaku, the rise of gaming blog news sites, and respect for each other.

While I don't care for Pewdie Pie, I like the idea of a gaming network on youtube with trusted game reviewers. Make one channel with Total Biscuit, Boogie2988, Greg Miller etc. etc. I think It would be a hit. I trust a youtuber more than some company.

The Pewdiepie box quote is actually much more informative than a similarly vague box quote attributed to some publication without any indication of who actually wrote it.

With due respect and sympathy for those who lost jobs, this is a space that will be filled. For every EGM, 1UP or Joystiq that closes, somebody creates a Giant Bomb or Polygon. I'm not a fan of either Giant Bomb or Polygon, but that's not the point. "Real games journalism" (whatever that means) is alive and well, and as a practical matter, I haven't regularly looked at Joystiq for years.
I like Polygon.

The part about a shorter game costing less and leading to lower prices is kind of silly when thinking about major console releases, but might have some weight regarding the smaller arcade/indie titles. That said, the rest of the article doesn't seem to agree with the notion that games are too long at all, mostly musing about a partial truth that a lot of folks don't finish games.
Regarding Polygon in general, I mentioned this in the Grim Fandango thread but if there's another site that does interesting features like how the remaster process happened, i'd love to know as that's one of the primary parts of the site that I enjoy reading. The opinion pieces... I don't really give a shit about.
