So these guys DDoSed a couple video game services and called in a bomb threat. That sucks and they should go to prison, but I'm not sure how you think getting raped on a regular basis is a proportional punishment.

What exactly is the crime committed with regards to DDoS attacks? Since it's not a "hack" specifically and not stealing anything.
Seen in that light, this is hardly a victimless crime. I don't think these haxxxors fully appreciate the seriousness of their crime. |
re: Lizard Squad DDoSes Xbox Live and PSN
Until guys like this get caught and seriously punished it's just going to keep happening. Look at the Pirate Bay guys. Those guys went to jail and it didn't stop torrenting at all.

They send one of our servers to the hospital, we send one of theirs to the morgue.

It breaks several laws. Also, the impact to an affected company with a customer base the size of Sony's can easily become astronomical. Think of all of the lost revenue from game sales not made, all of the disgruntled customers returning consoles (I'm sure more than a few did), all of the people demanding refunds (and some getting them) and think of the long term distrust and second guessing of Sony's PSN etc. All during the busiest time of the year for Sony. I wouldn't be surprised if this impacts Sony to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. Add in the impact to MS.

My Airport is hidden and has a 35 digit password. If they can crack that, more power to them.

You hid an entire airport? Well done!

Not that hiding your SSID actually does much... :p
But it seems they went the easiest way, just going for default passwords, that a lot of people never change. :S |

Nah just put him in a hole for a really long time where he has no computers, internet, games, etc. Make him forget what a computer even looks like.

Re: Lizard Squad DDoSes Xbox Live and PSN
Whoops. I mentioned it earlier it would be a bad idea to trust these guys with your info...
http://arstechnica.com/security/2015...ext-passwords/ It's payback time for the group that knocked the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox networks offline in December. First came the report Friday morning that a UK man was arrested in connection with the distributed denial-of-service attacks, making him at least the second person to be detained in an ongoing investigation. Now comes word the customer database Lizard Squad members maintained as part of their DDoS-for-hire service has been breached, spilling details on more than 14,241 users. But the comeuppance doesn't end there. According to KrebsOnSecurity reporter Brian Krebs, who broke the story about the compromised database, all registered names and passwords were stored in plaintext. The cache shows that customers deposited $11,000 in bitcoins to pay for attacks on thousands of Internet addresses. The information will no doubt prove interesting to members of rival gangs and law enforcement agencies around the world. |
