Wait, with the Xbox1 and the PS4, you can't even play games from discs without being connected to the network or is it just downloaded games? And if it is downloaded games, I thought they install on your console? You can't play them without being connected even if they are completely downloaded?

This is total BS. Sony and MS need to start taking this stuff seriously because they're screwing over their loyal customers. Not being able to get online over Xmas break is unacceptable... this is literally the only time of year my job kind of slows down enough to spend so quality gaming time in the evening.

Just found this and somewhat interesting.....

Kim Dotcom Strikes Deal With Lizard Squad to Leave PSN, Xbox Live Alone
Following the outage of the Sony PlayStation Network and Microsoft Xbox Live networks on Thursday, for which hacker group Lizard Squad took credit, Internet tycoon and founder of Mega, Kim Dotcom, took to Twitter to try and strike a deal.
If Lizard Squad (@LizardMafia on Twitter) was actually behind the disruption, which it claims to be a DDoS attack, then it appears that Dotcom was successful in his endeavour.
Kim Dotcom offered Lizard Squad 3,000 premium Mega Lifetime vouchers for stopping the attack. Dotcom initiated the conversation with "Hi @LizardMafia, I want to play #Destiny on XBOX Live. I'll give your entire crew Mega lifetime premium vouchers if you let us play. Cool?"
After the transaction was done, Lizard Squad claimed it had stopped the attacks and tweeted "Thanks @KimDotcom for the vouchers-you're the reason we stopped the attacks. @MegaPrivacy is an awesome service." The hacker group added that they stopped the attacks nearly 2 hours ago and "the current downtime is just the aftermath."

We shouldn't negotiate with terrorists. Even cyber terrorists. Now they'll pull this crap any time they want more free stuff.

Yeah, seems like Mega/Megaupload founder Kim DotCom had paid off Lizard Squad to stop the attacks (from Kotaku).
Any downtime now is just the aftermath of the attack.
I wish these companies could do something about these, but I understand it's nearly impossible to protect against bots doing DDoS attacks. It's just a flaw of how the internet's set up.

Sony nor MS is screwing anyone...it's these jerks who have no life, no conscious, no care except for themselves and thrive on making as many people as miserable as possible. And if anything they absolutely love it when people blame the very ones THEY attack. Sort of like when a cop gets all the blame when someone breaks the law in the first place....

When I tried playing Super Mega Baseball and Metro: Last Light on my PS4, both games just got hung up/ frozen after all the logo screens. Both games were digital downloads. But hey, Sony always makes a point to thank me for my patience, which is way better than them actually figuring out how to fix their shit.

How are these hackers getting the services shut down? Are Sony and MS security systems that weak? Why can't they improve on security so this doesn't happen again?

If you pay for a service you should have the right to make a reasonable claim or complaint about it not working. But like I said, Xbox Live is down 1 day, you aren't entitled to a big settlement. You're entitled to a day.

And to be honest I was only half serious in asking that because I do expect they will give us something but there is a 95% chance it will be something I don't care about like a shit indie game on PSN or something.
