Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
Target had it out but the register cockblocked the transaction. They can't sell it until the 20th. Although there were only a few copies left, so there is obviously a way around it.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
How about if they're going to embargo reviews until the day before release date?

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
Lots of concern about the length of this game from people who don't have PS4s.

Konami should be happy as hell that YouTube wasn't around when MGS came out for the PSX

I don't like it either, and I'm not that hyped for the Order, but I'm also not sure why any particular game would get singled out for it. |

...I'm still really looking forward to playing this  Reminds me of those Quantic Dream games with some actual gameplay mixed in.

I decided to go ahead and get my copy. I will just loan it out to a few friends after I am done.

My Grandmother use to say, "Good news moves like a Turtle and Bad news like a Rabbit".....
God forbid I had to weigh which way I had to go or think based on some or a couple of YouTubers whose main concern is getting attention, hits on their videos and one sided views on a game yet to be released so they can brag about being first. It's like watching CBS news and taking whatever they say and present as the final say and facts ignoring all the other outlets. I look at all sides and as many as I can. And another thing...a lot of gamers today who didn't experience the first Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PS1, Xbox or any of the early consoles don't realize just how luck they are today. Yet I haven't seen this much moaning and crying in my life going back to the other consoles. We were thrilled to get about anything period. I'll never forget the moaning and bit@hing playing the Destiny Alpha from people about lack of maps, not able to upgrade, not able to do this or go here, no story.....blah, blah, blah ...we need to let it all play out and hear some more from other sources first people. If some have made up their mind base on Mr. Know-It-All YouTuber PlayMeThrough...so be it. |

Resident Evil 4, and Uncharted, and Last of Us, and Tomb Raider, and Portal. Those games did not suck. This one might, but it won't be because it's short. Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
Probably one of the best articles about not just this game but how games in general are starting to be looked at across the entire board. Well worth the read....
The Order 1886 Controversy And Why Game Length Doesn't Matter http://www.ign.com/blogs/kralamoonar...86-controversy I wasn't going to write a blog about this. In fact, I wanted to finish writing my blog about the "cinematic games debate", but something struck me while I was reading articles about The Order 1886. The CTO and founder of Ready at Dawn, had to blame himself for apparently not communicating the vision of The Order well enough. And this where I think the criticism of games in general has gotten too far. Now we've gotten to the point where a developer is doubting himself and his team, when in fact, they've done a perfect job of portraying what kind of game they're making. All because of the constant barrage of clickbait articles and rumors from people who only hate them/their game. Even the lead game director has noticed it and commented on it. In this blog, I argue it's time we start to change our perception of games (not just The Order) and treat them as art -this is the exact reason why games aren't seen as art- because gamers are not seeing them as art. Speaking to a fellow IGN user about the games controversial game length, he stated that "It's one of many reasons games aren't taken seriously as art. Its fans don't treat them as art." And that statement in my opinion couldn't be anymore truer. "I mean let me set something straight: if you judge a game based on how long it takes someone on YouTube, someone with a vested interest in getting it done as fast possible, you're doing yourself a disservice and it's completely pointless. Honestly, I facepalm whenever someone claims to watch an entire game on YouTube from start to finish to prove an ideological point. My point? Watching and playing are two completely different things. Gaming as a medium, is best experienced, when your PLAYING it." |

Put down the crack pipe. Except for Portal, all those games were 2x to 3x times longer than Order and Portal was priced appropriately. Whatever point you were tying to make, you made the opposite.
I finished most of those games in one sitting. Tomb Raider seemed especially short (and especially awesome), and RE4 is one of my favorite games of all time, and there's no way it's more than 10 hours long. Anyway, the point was, I don't think it matters, and neither do your 2x/3x. I've never been high on the game, but I think this is a patently stupid and unfair point to make against it. This is bullshit and you know it. I have a PS4 and no Xb1, and I was really looking forward to this game, now, not so much, maybe a rental, not so much due to the length, but what seems to be the rudimentary mechanics of the gameplay.
The internet is REALLY concerned about the length of this game, like no other game I've ever seen. |
