Unskippable cutscenes? Why? Why? Why?

I am still going to play this, and I honestly think it will probably be around 10 hours of fun, but unskippable is a dirty word in my house...and massively disappointing. |
Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
Unskippable sucks. In Dying Light I would have jumped off the roof had I not been able to skip some of the overly long expositions or character interactions. Ugh!

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
if written well, unskippable is fine and at worst presents a bathroom break opportunity
if written poorly ... looking at you Destiny .... unskippable sucks |
Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
Why not fifteen hours of great gameplay? For me, if either of those factors fall short it's not a day-one $60 purchase. Or make every game open world. Then you can dictate how much value you do or don't get from the game. |

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
there are way too many retail outlets these days that will give you back a good portion of your investment on a game (Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Amazon ... GS) in the form of credit so risk is much less these days
By no means am I condoning limited gameplay for full price but all of us know going in that this is a SP only game with likely limited replay value ... you can pretty much buy a game and it costs the price of a rental when all is said and done if you don't like it ...I almost got back what I paid for inFAMOUS and Watch Dogs regardless I hope this is a solid release but will wait for impressions of more than 1 online poster to make an informed decision about how I want to approach this release Many estimates have been made about the time necessary to complete Ready at Dawn’s upcoming PS4 exclusive The Order: 1886. At an event in Milan, CTO Andrea Pessino finally answered in detail the topical question, asked by the audience. According to Pessino, Ready at Dawn’s internal metrics show that if you play the game at a normal pace and difficulty level, you can finish the game in a window between eight and ten hours. If you play in hard mode or you take your time to seek for every single little detail, you’ll probably clock about twelve hours or more. Pessino also admitted that yes, if you rush through the game skipping everything you can, you can probably manage the clear in five hours and a half. Considering the reports we’re seeing on social media and forums from those that already played the game, those seem to be realistic estimates. Ultimately how much play time you’ll get from The Order: 1886 depends mostly on you. again if the content is solid I will be fine paying street price and, like anything, will sell it off if I feel the value of keeping it doesn't justify the return I can get back |
Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
I never bothered finishing Infamous: Second Son as I found much of the to do list tedious and boring. Cut that crap out and the story is likely 6-8 hours. I just couldn't stay focused and decided to put it away. I'm still looking forward to playing this but it could be a share game. I consider Alien Isolation and The Evil Within share games as well.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
I really only play games for single player stories anymore. Most are short so I usually wait for the 19.99 price point. Only a few will I pay full price for. So many games to get caught up on it's no problem waiting most of the time. Waiting also gets you most of the DLC thrown in as well.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
I'm going to keep my pre-order since I have it lock down for $45. I hope I don't regret my decision...

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
Nobody needs to make any decisions yet. Let's at least wait for some actual reviews to come in prior to launch.
That said, I'm still going to return Lego Batman and try to get this from Gamefly later this week. :fc: |

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
I assume you're referring only to the response from Ready at Dawn, as I don't see how seeing others report that it took approximately 9 hours on normal difficulty is.
I don't think i've ever heard of anyone say "the game took 9 hours to beat, but I died 15 times so my actual play time without replying those sections was actually 7 hours and 15 minutes" or whatever. |
Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
Meh! If games like Far Cry 4 didn't have you travelling to Timbuktu and back for each mission then the storyline would be about 10 hours tops. The "value" is in all of the collectables and crap you get to do.

Games now days when it comes to any story is almost in a "Lose Lose" situation.....If they put together a game with a great story behind it and allow the game to explain it...yes cut scenes...then they're ripped and gamers complain about it. But then if they don't have a good enough story, it skips, not thorough enough and leaves everyone scratching their head asking what the heck is this about, they're ripped and gamers complain about it.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
I want to know the total playtime of the game for the average person when you take out all non controllable scenes or any QTE event (since the QTE is the prostate exam of the gaming world...something they keep telling us we need but you don't believe it)

I dont think this is true at all. Plenty of games are praised for their storytelling lately, and not all rely on lengthy cut scenes. The Last of Us is a great example.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
I thought the first Portal had one of the best stories ever in a video game and there were no forced cutscenes and very little talking. The Souls games also do an amazing job telling a story without telling one. You don't have to shove these elements on us to tell a great story. When you have the ability to deliver your vision in so many ways, compared to tv/movies that give us a story in one way, you should embrace this as much as possible.
The Order does look cool though...and I do love when cinematic moments transition seamlessly into actual action so smoothly you almost miss it. |
Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)
If anyone is dying to play it early, check Target. The one by my house has the game for sale already including $15 off a $20 playstation store gift card if purchased together.
Spoiler:
EDIT: sorry about the size |
