I didn't realize this was a Friday release. Just a little more than a week away! I haven't heard anything about embargoes, so hopefully we'll see some reviews pop up soon.

I have it pre-ordered from Best Buy, but I never get games delivered on the day of release. Blame the moose-run Canada Postal system.

Another lucky soul got a early release and has posted his thoughts...
The Order: 1886 On Hard Difficulty Setting Takes 18 Hours To Beat, Narrative & Gameplay Blends Pretty Good: Early Owner In a thread on Reddit, RoswellRAD shared his impression on the game, and stated that it took him 18 Hours to complete The Order: 1886 on Hard Difficulty setting. What can I say? Game is amazingly well-crafted in practically all aspects. Gameplay is tight, visuals are amazing and oh boy, alternate London setting is just overwhelming. Yes, the cinematic feeling is there from framing to lighting to narrative, but the gameplay is as good as any other good old classic TPS game, even better. I’m a big fan of Gears Of War, loved all four entries (Judgment too, had a blast playing it a year ago), but.. this.. THE ORDER 1886, is the superior game. For me, it is the defining TPS of this generation, can’t see any similar game doing better in the next few years at least. Kinda bitting my tongue here but, get ready for plenty of surprises because non of the trailers tell much" "Forgot to mention one core aspect of the storytelling: EPIC SOUNDTRACK. and I mean GOOSEBUMPS EPIC. Youtuber PlayMeThrough completed Order 1886 and answered questions about the game. No spoilers. Took me a little over 5 hours on my first playthrough (including all cutscenes) Not much replayability. You can't level up any skills or anything and there is no New Game+. And you cannot skip cutscenes either, so it would be the exact same experience I'm afraid. Pretty much the only side thing you can do is looking for collectibles, but that's it. No challenges or whatever. Well maybe it's 2 hours or 2,5. I didn't measure the time, but the majority of it is cutscenes. So 1,5 hours or 2,5 hours doesn't seem like a big difference either way. Obviously depends on the player. If you really get into finding collectibles I'm sure you can spend much more time with it. Or if you play on hard difficulty (which I wasn't). But my best guess, based on what I have captured it's around 1,5h-2h gameplay and rest was cutscenes. Take the first 4 chapters for example, maybe 35% of that was gameplay. Some chapters consist only of cutscenes. And often times there are these "interactive" cutscenes with QTEs where you need to press some buttons, but I wouldn't count that as gameplay. It's more of an interactive movie to me, which isn't a bad thing. Hence the film stripes. So calm down everyone. Jesus :D Well sort of... the game doesn't always tell you where to go or what to do exactly. Sometimes you have to figure that out on your own (like moving a cart to climb up to the next area). Or you have to interact with certain objects or need to wait for your teammates to do something. But all in all it doesn't require too much thinking and all objects you can interact with are highlighted when you stand close to them. About what I expected from this game. It has "Gamefly rental" written all over it. |

Me too. There's a reason I ordered it for in-store pickup and didn't use any Reward Zone certificates on the order. I still have it in my Gamefly queue and might very well go that route instead. Shame, the Collector's Edition was so Damn pretty.

5 hours is wildly different than the 18 hours from the reddit user posted above. I'm still looking forward to it. I'm not gonna bail based on a random YouTube user. Now if a bunch of legit reviews hit saying the same thing, then it might be cause for alarm.

To be fair, that's exactly the number that discostu gave several weeks ago. All I know is it took me 40-45 minutes to play through one chapter -- Chapter 5, I think.
Gooter, yes, I know you get the certificates re-issued to you if you cancel the order, but it takes a couple of weeks and sometimes they expire pretty quickly. I just prefer using them for other things I know I won't cancel or return or find cheaper later during the return period. Just one less thing for me to worry about. I haven't canceled my pre-order yet, but I'm keeping my options open. That's why I said earlier don't pre-order from the PSN store until at least after the review embargo is lifted. |

So, if this turns out to be true then they delayed the game several months to turn out a 5 hour game? lol! I have it pre-ordered but there is no guarantee they get my money. I will wait and see what more reviews say.

No offense, but people were expecting something different than what those comments were on reddit? Seems like all the videos had this pegged as a QTE game with a shit ton of cinematics. Sort of like Ryse.

Actually it probably is a lot more close to Ryse, but with guns instead of swords. |

I didn't watch the videos posted but can gather the person's intent wasn't to "play" the game but to get from point A to Z as quickly as possible on the easiest level ... that is not the way I nor most would be playing this game
I haven't written this one off yet |
