Starting Chapter 10. Great game so far.

I don't love the emphasis on stealth. The older games was more often you'd be in a place, and the enemies would raid you. Now, so far, its more like Batman, where you walk into a "room" with a bunch of bad guys, and you can either take them all on at once (really hard), or try to pick as many as you can off by stealth. But the stealth/cover mechanics and actions are WAY limited compared to Batman, and you can't completely use stealth to avoid the bad guys like you could in TLOU.

Played a few hours this morning and left at the start of Chapter 15 (there's 22 total). There was a puzzle in Chapter 12 that I needed to consult YouTube, but other than that, it's been smooth sailing.

Are you guys playing this like previous Uncharted games where you search every corner for treasure? Because I feel like I'm missing dialog and story by playing that way. And I'm finding very little treasure to boot.

Re: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4, 5/10/2016)

I never played the previous Uncharted games that way :P Just not much of a treasure hunter, although the treasures here seem harder to find.

nope, don't go out of my way to find them
like you said it distracts from the story
can always go back and find em if wanted

Finish the game. Enjoyed the heck of it. I probably rank it as my second favorite Uncharted game after 2. Miss about 60 treasures, I spent points on unlimited ammo and picks some character costume. Also spent a point on using a helium audio, next games they all talk like chipmunk.

Just started Chapter 13.

Spoiler:
This was probably the jaw dropping moment I was expecting from this game that finally matches that train sequence in the snow from Uncharted 2. Amazing scenes and gorgeous graphics on the island with the rain falling and the terrain and rocks.

Just got the piton... now that reminds me so much of Tomb Raider :p

As for me, I played halfway through Uncharted and liked it, then it got set aside for a month and when I returned to it I couldn't remember how to play. I have the remastered trilogy for PS4 and I haven't had a chance to touch it, yet. I hope to do that this year, just in time for UC4 to hit a nice low BF price point.

And... in Chapter 15 and still super jazzed and the thrill ride continues. I thought the first 9 or 10 chapters were kind of slow overall, both in game play and plot. But it's really kicked in to high gear and i'm loving it. The action bits have kicked up a huge notch, and the sound in particular is really booming. I'm really in to the story now, after it feeling pretty by the numbers earlier on.

At this point, probably the best game i've played this generation so far across both the major consoles.

Beat the game tonight. The epilogue chapter was neat.

Good ending to the series. Classic Uncharted gameplay, fantastic graphics, fun story.

I might dig into the multiplayer a bit.

How long do you think it took you from Chapter 15 til the end? Curious if i can finish it tonight.

2-3 hours I'd say. It took me 13 hours total to beat the game.

I just finished Chapter 11 (I think). The one with the bell tower. That's when shit got real.

Finishing up Uncharted 3 which I never got around to. Looking forward to this. How much of a step up from previous games is it?

Decker 05-16-16 10:59 AM

Re: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4, 5/10/2016)

What do you mean by "a step up"? It's a worthy successor and looks better. Has more robust multiplayer as well, I'm told.
Uncharted 2 is one of the best games ever made -- I don't know how much of a step up from that one could get.

Mostly in the graphics department. They also try to mix it up a little bit more, adding more stealth and fighting elements and a bit less shooting to smooth things out a bit. Otherwise, pretty much the same games.

Re: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4, 5/10/2016)

Decker, yeah I was mainly wondering about the graphics. Just finished 3, part 2 is still my favorite. But slop, what you said about mixing it up is cool, 3 was loaded with shooting sprees for the back half of the game. And leaving Chloe/Cutter without at least seeing them at the end (in a cinematic scene) was sloppy. Ordered Uncharted 4 for Wednesday.

I was a fan of the multiplayer beta, so I'm looking forward to playing that again.

Re: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4, 5/10/2016)

I agree about Chloe and Cutter. Can't end a trilogy with a romantic triangle though.

Drake does allude to her in his attic at the opening of UC4 though.

It feels like every encounter wants you to try and it with stealth before getting in to a shoot out.

I didn't get a chance to finish before leaving on a business trip to Korea, i'll have to wait a week before I can finish it. It's pretty damn close, if not equal, to Uncharted 2 for me. And probably the best looking game i've seen all around (character models, environments).

Man, now I can't wait to play. Maybe I'll replay part 2 in the meantime, since I have two days, and it's been over six years.

;)

Seriously, though, this is the best looking game I've played. I do wonder what Naughty Dog games would look like on a high-end PC. Textures and details are unreal at times. Cut scenes definitely have more detail than the interactive scenes, and Photo Mode obviously kicks things up a notch (as with any game that has Photo Mode).

I can't remember the chapter number I'm on... 17 or 18 maybe... I'm very happy with it now. Just walked up to
Spoiler:
New Devon

and a few sequences in particular (y'all playing know exactly which ones) brought the sense of danger/urgency I was waiting for in a big way. That said, there are still sections that drag the pace down; I'm all for nuance and character development, but these scenes go on just a little too long every time.

I'm hoping to finish it up in the next few days, so I'll have more thoughts then. :)

Re: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4, 5/10/2016)

just finished

sometimes a little too much exposition and not enough gameplay (or innovative gameplay) but in the end a very satisfying conclusion to the franchise
loved the ending but wished the closing credits were over flashback moments through the previous games

one question
Spoiler:
did Sam have a grappling hook? I didn't think so ... and if he didn't it makes no sense how he reached the areas Drake was following his footprints to on the way to Avery's ship

next up .... MP and Plunder!!!
