Run like a coward? Screw that. Stay and fight to the death and watch the nemesis system at work.

Maybe I'm just biased from the last few hundred hours of Dark Souls 1 & 2 I've played. I haven't played an action-adventurey sort type of title that wasn't a Devil May Cry or Dark Souls title in years, both series known for their difficulty. I finally died tonight to an Uruk after about 4 hours, but it was a control problem (hanging from ledge and couldn't figure out how to drop/move). He stomped my hands and killed me. |
Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
My birthday tomorrow and i am expecting this and a brand new PS4 to play it on in the morning. Looking forward to a full morning of gaming.
Update: got my PS4, but the game was Killzone. Shit. Oh well, wifey still did good. Will pick this up this week. |
Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Picked up the game today and played a few hours. Pretty entertaining. Got my arse handed to me at first, but quickly got to the point where I can take on a small army with little problems. Character is hardly powered up at this stage. Will enjoy going through the rest of this.

Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
I'm getting my ass handed to me lately. I'm to the 5 Warchiefs and and I have a few Death Threats on some veteran captains. Rough going.
|
Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Go do some of the side missions to get your weapons upgraded. Those missions are easier/shorter than the Warchief ones.

Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
I keep getting destroyed by a level 18 Warchief where every time I try to flip over and stun him or charge and knock his shield, he easily deflects me and the screen says "Combat Veteran" or something like that. Basically it sounds like the only way to take this guy out is by using exploding barrels... which is near impossible.

As for the warchiefs, if they are not immune to stealth, I was able to stealth brand one...the mission took all of 5 seconds. I did whatever was necessary to drawn him out, stealth brand from the top of a ledge and it was over. Naturally only 1 of the 5 warchiefs was no immune to stealth but at least it made one of them easy, haha. |
Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
I'll have to try the execution thing because of course this guy IS immune to stealth... ridiculous.

If by chance they are immune to this, you can just hit them with normal hits until they fall down and hit 'em with the standard kill 'em when they're down kill move. Or use execution moves, they might not work, but they still do damage. Sure he bounces the execution, but it still does a hunk of damage. 5 or 6 of them will kill most. I did get the difficulty higher by the end of the game by issuing death threats to almost every captain/warchief. So I died a few times to warchief + his posse here and there. End of the game stage / final boss fight was a letdown. Overall I enjoyed it but I can't believe some people are talking Game of the Year. Maybe I'm out of touch with "normal" gamers these days. On to Bayonetta 2! |
Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
I faced the first Black Captain last night and primarily hit Y+B together over and over... that seemed to do the trick against what I thought would be a tough opponent. Either he wasn't tough at all or I stumbled on to something.

Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
This game is pretty damn addictive. The fighting is really nicely balanced, and i love the open world running and doing whatever you want. I do agree that some of the AI for enemies can be very poor, especially in stealth, but its a minor quibble. I can imagine if the AI was spot on it would make stealth very difficult indeed and make the situation much worse for enjoying the gameplay. I can see this getting a sequel in the not too distant future.

Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
This game with coop play would be awesome. Much like Diablo 3, have the ranger class and then add dwarfs and elves to the mix. Then throw in a few more enemy types as well.
|
Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
So any thoughts on what would be nice to see in DLC or sequels? As Edstein mentioned, Elves and Dwarfs into the mix would be cool. A bit more variety on landscape would be nice as well.

My major gripe with this game is the frustrating controls when climbing or trying to get away. Too often I get "stuck" on a feature or Talion won't climb until I perfectly adjust his relative position to a wall or cage /crate. |
Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Odd, I think the climbing is a little too easy. Point at wall, hit X and you're off to the races. No looking for ledges, and Talion has an amazing vertical. He can hit extremely high ledges in a single leap.

Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Finished this up last night and enjoyed it right up through the end. I may eventually go back and wrap up the last couple hunting and nature challenges, but am setting it aside for now. I did stumble upon a pretty easy way to brand additional war chiefs once you already have one under your control. I'd start a riot, then get a birds eye view of it where I could pick off any of the enemy's supporting troops with arrows. Your guys will typically kill the enemy war chief before you can brand him since he's the target, but one of his nearby followers will instantly be promoted. That orc will typically have already taken a bit of a beating and be very easy to grab and brand. I used that approach on every war chief except the first and it worked every time.

Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
How do you brand?
|
Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
You have to unlock it by doing a quest. Definitely helpful against the combat veteran guys.

Climbing isn't the issue, it's the position you're in when you try to climb --- sometimes the X1 version of the game is very unforgiving.
