(Many DOS games shipped with serious bugs, but these are the two most infamous examples I can think of).

Titanfall with it's lack of a campaign.

Wait. Titanfall is all multiplayer? Or what?

Titanfall is multiplayer only, no single-player campaign.

Damn. I did not know that.

I'll go old school. Water levels in the 16-bit Sonic games. The whole point of Sonic is to go fast and speed through the levels. Why would anyone want to go in slow motion and search for stupid air bubbles (that are never there when you need them)?

To me these are staples of the Mario Kart franchise. I played the demo at Target a few weeks ago and loved it.. but when I noticed a lot of the "old tricks" that have been in every MK game I've played were missing, I was disappointed. This may be a dumb question but these aren't things that can be added in packs or downloads, is it?

I also read they got rid of the separate arenas for the battle system. That was always a fun part of the game seeing the different levels specifically for multiplayer.

The "neutering" of Rainbow Road (both the original N64 map and the new one remade for the WiiU game) was enough for me to have serious issues with the game. Don't get me wrong, Mario Kart 8 is one of the better titles on the WiiU. However, it lacks a lot of the things that have made past Mario Kart games great.

People complaining about Titanfall's lack of campaign? Respawn's problem was the lack of game modes to offset the lack of campaign.

One other big problem stemming from the past few versions of Mario Kart is the constant widening of the tracks. The tracks shouldn't be wide enough for 8 karts at a time. Just something else to pander to beginners (easier to learn the power slide, no accidentally going of a mile wide track, easier to avoid bananas, etc). Rainbow Road was a skinny track where you had to fight to not fall off, it required skill. The new one could be played with your eyes closed and still stay on the track.

Also what happened to the upside down ? block? That was the best fucking item. Too easy to take out beginners I guess.

Mario Kart 8 is still fun(mostly because I'm playing with my kids), but it's not the same game it used to be. It's a shell () of it's former self.

It's been damn near 30 years and I still can't beat it

I just bought a PS3 a few months ago, and the first thing I did was buy all three Uncharted games. I had heard so many good things about it, and I also wanted to start with some PlayStation exclusives. Anyway, I played through the first game on normal for about 95% of the game, but when I got to the very last part of the game (I won't spoil the details just in case anyone hasn't played it yet) I had to turn the difficulty to easy. I could NOT get past that part, even after about a dozen tries. When I set it too easy, it was STILL really difficult to do. Maybe I'm just bad at the game, but that huge spike in difficulty right at the end really bothered me. What's worse is that it happened again in the second game during the final boss fight. It was a simple enough premise, but I'd always make it about 3/4 of the way through the fight and then inexplicably die after getting caught in a corner or because of an awkward camera angle.

Those were two of the better games I've ever played, but those parts in each game are the only thing from making them some of my favorites. I never did beat the final boss of Uncharted 2 because it got to the point where I simply wasn't enjoying the game. I still think they're amazing games, but those parts just irk me.

Not your point but that brings up a common "flaw" in quite a few games...final bosses in games that don't need them. Uncharted, Bioshock, Tomb Raider...

There's a cheap trick to the final boss of Uncharted 2 that you can use that makes it pretty easy, on any difficulty. This is what I used to beat him on Crushing difficulty:

Having finally just gotten through Assassin's Creed Revelations, I'd say the assassin management portion of the game is a big flaw. It's constantly drawing you away from other tasks, like going to the bathroom in the Sims. If you want to control all those cities completely, you have to recruit dozens of assassins and continually send them on missions. Then you can get on with what you wanted to do - oh wait, another mission just finished, now I have to find the place to start another... and on and on.

I don't mind collectibles; at least you finish them at some point. Even the den defense (which was a target for criticism) wasn't an issue for me, but that kind of high-maintenance stuff shouldn't have been there. I know it started in Brotherhood, but I don't remember it being so tedious in that one.

Skyrim and its marginal combat system. Melee just feels week and floaty. Been a problem throughout the series and it could really use a Chivalry:MW style system with more heft.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive is my favorite shooter but competitive matchmaking suffers from trolls and smurfs.

Total War series is a favorite of mine but most games with the exception of maybe Shogun II have poor enemy AI.

Civ 5, while I like the 1 unit per tile rule, the AI absolutely fails at strategy, constantly putting ranged units to the front lines, etc, making combat lackluster.

I don't remember if it was AC 2 or one of the others but the timed temple/tomb events pissed me off, especially when I fell down and died or had to start over. They fixed it in a later one, where you would knock down a pillar or whatnot to climb back up if you messed up.

The driving mechanics pretty much killed GTAIV for me.
