Re: Halo 5: Guardians (XB1, Fall 2015)
I love the series but still on the fence for an X1. I guess I have about 18 months to decide.
Im not sure I need an HD campaign collection. I've run through every game multiple times now. However, I've been wanting an ultimate MP Halo collection with every map to date in the hopper. That's gotta be nearing the 150 mark. Now that would be impressive and a purchase.
I'm a campaign guy first but Halo MP is what moves systems. Getting any Halo with MP in stores this year would attract attention. I'm not sure a campaign disc will do the same.

Almost the way I feel...I'll do a "wait & see" and it appears I can do that for a good year. The rumored "Master Set" is a nice idea but for Halo veterans it could get a mixed reception. I've played them all...including the original on the first XBox. Even if I had a XO I would probably pass...much the same way I passsed on the original that was reworked for the 360...I didn't get that either. Replaying a game with updated visuals is not my cup of tea so to speak. For anyone with a XO and hasn't touched Hlo...excellent must have buy.

A Few New Details about Halo 5: Guardians
A new engine and a new character
A little more information has come to light in a blog by Frank O'Connor, the Franchise Development Director, at the official Halo website. Not only has 343 Industries been working on continuing an already legendary franchise, but they've been developing new ways to implement it, as well.
But we’re not just making a new game in that three year span, we’re also making a new engine. During the development of Halo 4, we pushed the Xbox 360 and the engine to its limits, and we were happy with the way we were able to make the Halo universe look. The Xbox 360 still has a few tricks up its sleeve, even now. We are moving to a whole new platform with the Xbox One – a new architecture, new graphics hardware and bluntly some new ways to think about gaming, period.
If the one new image we have is anything to go by, whatever they're doing is working.
We also have a very brief but intriguing tweet from Josh Holmes, Executive Producer at 343:
For everyone speculating about the mysterious Spartan in Halo 5: Guardians, he’s not Palmer (or Cortana!). He’s a NEW character.
Who this mystery Spartan is, however, is still....well, a mystery.
That's all we have so far. Some major announcements are expected at E3; we'll keep you posted.

Xbox One preview members get early access to Halo 5 multiplayer beta tomorrow
http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/18/7...review-members
All preview members will get two codes. I'll throw my second one up here when I get it... if I remember.
edit: apparently both codes are required for a single user to get the beta. 1 for the download, and 1 for the "access" whatever the fuck that's about.

Far be it for me to look a gift horse in the mouth, but why would anyone want to have a multiplayer Beta 10-11 months before the game is released? How can that be of any value for the game?

Are you saying that it's too far out to be useful for the developers? Or too far out to generate hype and interest for the players?

Kinda both. I think the Destiny Alpha and Beta were huge successes because they provided useful feedback and built a lot of hype. A beta at Christmas for a Nov 2015 game that doesn't really need any hype anyway? I don't see who it benefits (and judging by the bungled launch of MCC, I could envision a possibility where it could actually generate more negative buzz than positive).

I imagine after the terrible launch of the Masterchief Collection that as much public testing as they can do for multiplayer can only be a plus to make sure stuff actually works.

I think a 3rd Person Halo game would rock!

The beta, for the ones in the Preview program, is on. Downloaded really fast, and played two matches. I sucked really bad.
But it's Halo. With some minimal changes that may make the game a little bit more interesting.

Yep, one of the codes is for downloading the beta, and the other is the early access key. It even says you have to redeem both right in the message.
