I was reading the Unreal thread, and I saw someone mention what they considered the best Capture the Flag level ever. That ended up bringing back really fond memories of playing Capture the Flag in Halo 2 with all of the DVDTalkers here back then. Those are still some of my best memories of online gaming, but I never find myself playing CTF anymore.

I guess the reason is that it's tough to get a team that works together now. I'm currently playing Titanfall, and I have almost exclusively stuck with Attrition (TDM) rather than risk having a no mic lobby in such a team based game as CTF. Even when I was playing COD I still stuck with TDM or Kill Confirmed rather than CTF or Domination. Domination especially annoyed me since people didn't seem to care about objectives, but just their stupid K/D.

I would really love to get back into some Capture the Flag. Maybe I'll just pick it next time I'm playing Titanfall.

So what games modes does everybody run to in FPS games?

i like plain old deathmatch. preferably with places i can camp and kill passers by easily without being detected. I am old and my reflexes suck.

Campaign co-op.

Followed by Campaign solo.

Then Team Deathmatch and CTF are about tied for me.

I prefer campaign solo, but if we're talking multiplayer I like co-op (campaign or standalone) the best. I really enjoyed the Spartan Ops missions in Halo 4 and was sad that they didn't do more with them.

I've always disliked anything Deathmatch related, and really any type of competitive multiplayer. If I had to pick one of those, I'd probably go with hold the objective matches (called different things in different games) where you have to capture and then defend various spots on the map.

To be completely truthful, my favorite mode is the one I don't go 0-30 in. I just have to find that one.

I think I'd have to pick team deathmatch.

I'm not very good at FPS to begin with, so I do pretty terribly at the "every man for himself" style of play. At least with a team, I know that about 42% of the other players are not trying to kill me.
I shy away from the "one death" modes as well. Not because I suck (I do), but rather because if I DO end up being one of the last 3 or 4 players by fluke, I'm worried that all the dead players are watching how bad I am.

It's funny how everybody claiims to suck at FPS's but I'm always at the near bottom regardless. I took a few weeks off from CoD and completely suck balls now.

Gears Horde Mode favorite mode ever.

TDM is always a safe bet.

I haven't bothered playing the single player for CoD or Battlefield, so it's been all about multiplayer for me for those games.

I like Domination and Kill Confirmed in the CoD world. Team Deathmatch is ok once in awhile. In Battlefield, everything just feels like an extension of Domination so all of those modes are pretty fun, but too large maps and 64 players make it a chore to play sometimes. Which is funny since someone called Domination for CoD 'noobs' when Conquest or Rush aren't really much different from that mode.

Horde mode was great in Gears. I feel like I haven't played a really fun CTF round since Quake 3/UT 2004 though.

Unrelated, but I hate hardcore modes.

I usually stick to single player campaign, but one of my favorite FPS games of all time is Wolfenstein:ET, with its objective based MP.

Used to be only TDM, but then I started playing domination almost exclusively around MW2. Now it's mostly kill confirmed because the spawns just seem to suck otherwise.

Depends on the game. I really like attrition when playing Titanfall. I haven't played it in a week, but when I was playing for hours one day I started being in the top three on my team practically every game. I do wish there was a real campaign mode, but game is so much fun it doesn't really matter. The only mode I like in CoD is campaign. The levels were better than the maps. How can you have a level in space, like in Ghosts, and not have it in multiplayer? Epic fail. Advanced Warfare looks good, so maybe they will wise up and make the campaign and multiplayer more complimentary.

I thought the infection mode on Halo 4 was pretty fun. Firefight was also fun in ODST and Reach. Wish they would have left it in 4 instead of adding in the Spartan Ops mode.

Anything objective based that penalizes teams full of campers.

Conquest in Battlefield is my go-to.

I also like horde mode provided the AI is decent.

That's what I like about Gears Horde Mode. Whenever you completed something, reach round 10, 20, etc. It felt like an achievement. It wasn't grinding.

Completing the full 50 rounds with a group of strangers, it's one of the most satisfying things I've ever had playing videogames.

Payload in Team Fortress 2. I've played matches that have taken nearly an hour on that game mode.

Followed by CTF in Unreal Tournament and Halo 2 & 3.

I'll second that...which was as rare of the rarest achevos/trophys one could get. Just getting to 20 was special providing no-one bailed which happened more than I can count. A real adrenaline rush after wave 30.

Single player first Then tie for everything else. Horde, co-op, deathmatch, flag, KOTH, Zombies... I like the variety.

That's not much of an answer though, so I'll put my least favorite... all sniper modes. Fuck that shit.
