Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

Looks fine I guess. I was expecting the animations to be a lot better. I haven't played since NHL '12 I think, but the choppiness in animation transitions is still there.

pretty good article
possible/probable exclusion of EASHL hasn't been discussed much here ... personally it doesn't effect me but EAs detachment on this game with their community certainly does

I've been following this story on the HFboards. I know a lot of people are upset over there. I'm more of a pick up and play kind of person, so I never really used those modes, but I can understand the attraction to them.

I pre-ordered the Ultimate edition for my brand new PS4. If anyone wants to add me, feel free.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

I'm guessing quite a few pre-orders will be cancelled. I'm still looking forward to it. Demo next week should tell me all I need to know.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

Sounds like the Xbone demo is out. I'm seeing vids from it already. I will have to wait for the PS4 version. No demo for PS3 and 360 owners apparently.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

Once I finally got the PS4 demo to show up I was able to download it pretty quickly.

My very initial impressions are good. I skipped out on 14 on my 360. I hated the demo from that one with fights after every whistle and continued to play 13. This is a nice upgrade from that.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

don't really know that I am feeling this
I am passionate about pucks but this package pales in comparison to the presentation of The Show (I don't even like baseball) which is a blast to play and has mojo atmosphere

player models/likenesses are awful
jersey flow is exaggerated for show .... looks more like jello than fabric
crowd shots as well are overdone just to draw attention to their work on them when the focus should be on the ice ... only have seen Staples so far (didn't select MSG) but nothing impressive
gameplay feels familiar

not sure if this version gets my money based on what I've seen

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

additional thoughts:

menus are super generic

played in MSG and it was just as generic as Staples ... no character in these arenas to distinguish them from one another

where is the lets go Rangers chant

where is the go Kings go chant

is it my audio or does the PA announcer seem really faint in announcing goals

played a few more games and gameplay seemed pretty solid except for some magnetic rebound control from the CPU

had a nice moment where I shot the puck in the opposing teams net well after the whistle and their player immediately went after me and dropped the gloves

had a great goal where I went top shelf and knocked the water bottle off the net

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

The shoot after the whistle fight was in the game last year. I agree with the low sound for the PA announcer. I couldn't hear him either. As for generic arenas, they looked pretty good to me. I don't think I've seen a sports game yet where they have team specific chants.

But I love the game. Day one purchase for me.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

Just played the demo. Good, but not great. Maybe I just expect too much from the new gen, but it didn't look THAT much better than the older versions. Played very well, but I can already tell I was spoiled by being able to add my own music. That fact alone may keep this one from being in my collection, or make it a cheap eBay acquisition in January.

Also not sure if I can handle listening to Doc say "Ohhhh" every 30 seconds.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

I played two games in the demo. In the 1st I edited LA's line strategies and won 1-0. In the 2nd I just used the default settings and lost 6-0 on 7 NY shots.

I didn't find it leaps and bounds ahead of PS3's NHL14 (which I never finished a season in). I might pick it up. It's hard for me to judge the demo because I put the game speed up all the way when I buy the game. The demos feels like skating through mud to me.

I think it looks really good. Better than the new Madden football looks, IMHO.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

I played the demo. I still suck. Rangers kept scoring relentlessly on me.

I agree with the comment about the jello-like movement of the jerseys.

The "tv" scoreboard at the top is extremely distracting. It appears and disappears all the time sometimes blocking my view. I was behind the net and it showed up and I couldn't tell who had the puck. They need to fix that.

Not sure if anyone else experienced that.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

I decided last night after a few more plays of the demo I won't be purchasing this come street date for full price .... this isn't the final product I was expecting to be delivered for next gen after a pass on last year for the systems

I'll wait for a price drop

Destiny (and PvZ: GW) will occupy my time and I can go back to the demo if I need a hockey fix

Found this on another board, not to late to cancel your pre-order.

Re: NHL 15 - Next-Gen Hockey

I'd say 99% of that doesn't matter to me. I just want to pit one team against another team and have at 'er.

That said, I played a bit of the game last night thanks to EA Access. I had quite a bit of fun (won one round 10 to 0, on easy controls). But, I think I'll wait to buy NHL 2016 instead.

Yikes.

Still going to play some tonight and then probably get the rental disc to mess around for a while. But I won't "own" this game until it hits the Vault.

Geez, it's missing a crazy amount of features.

What exactly does "No Season Mode" mean?

You can only play a full season in the "Be a GM" mode (with NHL teams only) is what I've heard.

All the missing stuff has turned me from a day-one owner to a wait for NHL 16 buyer. I have no idea why they nixed all the stuff they did...it's like they were rushing to street date and didn't have time for a bunch of stuff. Problem is, even if it wasn't improved, all this stuff was in last year's version...so don't give it new bells and whistles this year, but don't excise it from the game.

Yeah, I'm just going to wait until 16 I guess, fuck it. Giant bag of bullshit where they want to milk adding "new" features for an eternity.
