Probably won't be popular enough here to warrant its own thread, but Banished was released yesterday. It's a city building/town management/resource collection game developed by one guy (he did everything, even the engine), and it is very impressive. I played it all night last night and couldn't stop.
It's very similar to the Anno series of games, but much smaller scale. You just start out with a barn and some families, with a stockpile of resources, and you have the build all the housing/civic/production structures to keep the town alive. Seasons change, disasters strike. People are born and they die. Very old school, but well done interface as well, with lots of info panes you can move around the screen. Check it out, definitely worth the $20, even if it isn't as feature rich as the Anno games. http://store.steampowered.com/app/242920/ |

Ikaruga is now available on Steam ($9.99). Some of the lowest system requirements (obviously enough) I've seen on a game in some time:

My Samsung Electronics MZ-7PD128BW 840 Pro Series 2.5-Inch 128GB SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive arrived to day. Next I gotta get the Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE1T0BW. And then debate between this HDD (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER) and this HDD (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER). I think I might go for the cheaper one since I assume the faster RPM's will matter little if all I'll be using the HDD is to store my music and the ocassional video.

1TB SSD just seems like a waste of money to me now. Don't get me wrong, you'll get load time increases on your games, but man it's just so much money.
Of course, I'm making due with a 128gb ssd (Windows, Adobe Master Collection and main apps) and installing games on my secondary hdd (which runs extremely well.) |

Nothing wrong with a 1TB SSD. I like the idea of never having to uninstall anything. Got used to that with large platter drives. I'm also one of those people who likes to dabble in a lot of games at the same time; I don't often get a game and plow through it without playing anything else.
I was looking at newegg's prices a couple days ago and the 750GB was slightly less expensive ($0.53/GB compared to $0.55/GB for the 1TB.) The prices change all the time though, so it's probably the other way around now. |

my internet connection is going to be a problem this generation with the size of the downloads. my DSL is only 4 mbps DL. :( That is the best I can get out here in rural NC. So we are talking a couple of days to download a game in the future. I think the largest game I have downloaded so far is World of Warcraft which was right at 25 gigs I believe.

It's funny, I currently work with a developer that gave me some insight about the Sim City issues; despite what some people have said about offline, it's not really total BS to rework the game to work without an internet connection.

We do understand there's some continuity of getting from where we are to where we want to be [and] that shutting the lights off [on Games for Windows Live] isn't exactly the right thing to do. "We've got to make sure we've got a thoughtful plan that supports the people that currently have games on Games for Windows Live. It's a conversation we're having." Spencer warned there "might be some transition bumps, getting from here to there," as Microsoft redefines its PC gaming efforts. "But we're going to invest significantly more in that space, not less," he said. "It's just whether what we have today is the core of what we have [in the future] and it's probably not. "We've got to have this message out in a thoughtful way [within the next few] months and not anything more than that. It's in the real near term. This is something that we're working on now... because we want to be clear on it." |
