Original release date was scheduled to be 11/14. They won't be hitting that, I'm guessing now 2nd or 3rd quarter 2015.

They delayed the Dogfighter Module that was scheduled to come out during December.

No one seems to be too concerned about the delays, more that RSI wanted to get it right before releasing the alpha.

Well good, I'll have plenty of time to put together a PC to play it on. Haven't really played a space "sim" since the old TIE Fighter games in the late 90's.

So, my PC just died and I'm trying to rebuild it. If I manage to carry over my old power supply (a Corsair GS800) my 1TB hard drive, and my current RAM (Corsair High Perform Vengeance 16GB (4 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz RAM), as well as my current video card (an XFX 7850 1GB Core Edition that I just got under warranty to replace a much older card), do these new components make sense?



Any way to shave all that down to less than $700? I'll only be gaming at 1080p on one 60" monitor so higher resolutions and overclocking mean nothing to me.

Are you planning to have your games on the 1TB drive or are you also going to use the SSD for games? If you're gonna use the SSD just as an OS drive, you could get by with the 120GB Samsung 840 Pro instead of the 256GB. Might save you $100.

Well my games are currently all installed on my old drive, along with my OS and other programs I use (nothing fancy).

So I should just use the SSD as a boot drive? This is easy to set up, right? Cos I've only ever had one HDD in my computers.

By that logic, here would be my new total:

I must say, I'm liking the lower price point, even if it's barely $100 cheaper. :D And it's much better than the $1215.01 with which I started. :up:

I was going to ask why you were going with an Ivy Bridge-E chip before :)

You could do something in the middle as far as SSD's go and get a Samsung 840 Evo instead of the Pro. The 250GB drive is about $157 on Amazon right now. Personally, I like having games on the SSD for faster load time.

You could probably get a cheaper motherboard and case too, if you want to bring it down a little bit unless you're partial to those. Although I just noticed that's a nice media center case, so maybe not. I'm not sure where you live, but if there's a MicroCenter anywhere in the vicinity, they have great deals on CPU's and Motherboards, much better then anything online.

Well the price difference isn't too bad (an extra $40) so I suppose I could look into that.

Well the mobo seemed cheap to me and I was recommended ASUS for their reliability (though not for their prices). I just want something that is super reliable and will require minimal tinkering.

As for the case, it is ideal for my setup. Since this will go as part of my home theater, I'd rather not get a tower. And it pairs nicely with the enclosure of my Onkyo TX-NR5010.

I live in Puerto Rico so I wouldn't be surprised of MicroCenter does not exist here. Especially if the prices are as good as you say. :sad:

The CPU comes with a fan, should be fine if overclocking means nothing to you.

I'm saving up to buy a gaming PC within the next 3 months or so. If I buy one from a boutique site like Digital Storm or Origin, how easy is it to upgrade parts (RAM, Processor, GPU) over the years?

Can you just replace components like that (assuming they're compatible) without any real issue, or am I stuck with what I've got until I buy another PC?

And, yes, I know it's cheaper to build on my own. I've kicked that idea around for years, but I just don't feel like I have the patience/expertise to do it, especially when it comes to troubleshooting. Paying the extra for warranty and support is worth it.

Easy to replace, provided the industry doesn't go to a different socket design for new components. Which they will. DDR3 ram replaced DDR2 ram in '07 and it isn't backward compatible. And DDR4 is just around the corner...

I have a Samsung Pro 128gb running Win 7 pro. Can only store 2-3 games at a time on it before space becomes a problem. If I was going to do it over again I would have went with the bigger drive.

I think for my next setup I'm going to do 128GB 840 Pro for the OS (Or perhaps a PCI-Express SSD if they become affordable) and 500GB or higher 840 EVO for games.

I still like the idea of having the OS separate from my games in case I ever have to format and reinstall my OS for whatever reason.

I never cared for putting my games on a second drive, since for the most part you would need to reinstall a lot of the games anyway if you formatted. I just end up using Steam's built in backup to put games on my 2 TB regular drive when i'm done playing them, and have 5+ games installed on the SSD at a time.

I always keep everything on 1 drive. When I built a new computer last year my biggest splurge was a 1 tb ssd drive. I just install games as I play them all on the one drive. I only back up the saves though, whenever I format every three to four years plus I just install the next round of games I will play, but I don't carry over old steam game installs.
