And as far as the shipped/sell through... I know that it wasn't as rare as the Wii, but wasn't the WiiU sold out at the vast majority of places until after Christmas? So aren't shipped/sold almost the same in this case?

As for the install... doesn't every game install the entire game onto the harddrive? I remember hating that when Metal Gear Solid 4 forced an install that took forever on the PS3, forcing us all to watch him smoke for an eternity. In fact, that was one of the worst parts about the PS3, the long installs because the blu-ray laser was too slow to read content quickly. Except now every single game has that, plus, as others have said, updates; people will also start running out of default HDD space.

I don't have Ryse, but doesn't it let you play in some kind of demo mode or something while it loads? That was the big "enhancement" for this gen, right, being able to play some while you wait?
Yeah, two people can still share games on the PS3. I think there was one PSN game that you couldn't do it with (Final Fight Double Impact), as if you played it on one account, nobody else could use it for 24 hours.

Not every game is fully installed to the HDD on the PS3. Many games run off the disc, but as the games have become more complex, it's harder to do that. On PS4/XBone, every game is installed to the HDD, though it's a MUCH faster process on the PS4 over the PS3. Hard drive space will be a major concern this generation, especially on the XBOX side since you guys can't even replace the internal drive, and external support isn't there yet.

Yep. By far my biggest complaint is for some unknown reason they messed up what was perfect on the 360.

I wish they would fix the way achievements are displayed.

I wasn't sure if the PS4 required the entire game to be installed, but it may be because that bar fills up not until the install is done, but until enough is installed that you're able to play the game (for instance, I put PS4 Injustice in, and the bar filled up in seconds, which was a big surprise to me). Here's an article on the install times/differences:

http://kotaku.com/installing-xbox-on...ong-1471191836

On PS4, after inserting a disc, you'll be shown a progress bar that ends when you're able to launch the game, and if there's a day-one update, it downloads in the background, and you can install it when you want to play online or whatever the case may be for that update.

On Xbox One, you insert a disc and are shown a progress bar showing the percentage of the full installation, and when enough is installed to run the game, you'll see a message that says "Ready to Start!" The only difference is that the installation from the disc doesn't seem to start until you've downloaded and installed the update.

Now, there's another big difference here. Both consoles will let you know when the game is ready to launch. But once you get into the game, some parts may not be finished installing. For ACIV and Battlefield 4, that would mean the multiplayer modes (on both platforms). However, it seems that Xbox One lets you launch a game even before some singleplayer content is ready. I tested this with Madden 25 on Xbox One. Once the game was "ready to start" most modes like Connected Franchise or Practice were locked off until the game was completely installed. However, after installing the same game on PS4, those modes were playable after the initial install, which took 38 seconds.
Seems like something they could fix with a patch, but who knows?

Same on PS4. Makes you wonder what these figureheads were thinking when designing the OS this time out. Take what you had, strip out some of the minor stuff that wasn't essential and just improve. You don't strip out home networking and CD/MP3 playback or kill custom soundtracks to hock your subscription based music services. Fuck both companies for that.

One of the biggest surprises from this launch. Never in a million years did I think the hardware company (Sony) would have anything better in the software department than the actual software company (MS). I was in the Killzone campaign after :45 seconds while it installed in the background. Very cool.

I completed Max: The Curse of Brotherhood last night. It's a really great game that seems to have gotten lost in the year-end shuffle. Highly recommend it to fans of puzzle/platformer games. (The fact that's it's visually gorgeous doesn't hurt, either.)

Awesome, I've been curious about this game. Might have to check it out now.

I ignored it because it got pretty mediocre reviews, but I may check it out at some point. Right now my XBox One is just a $500 Peggle machine

Lol, mine is pretty much a $500 Netflix/Amazon/Blu-Ray machine.

The Wii U has been getting heavy play lately.

Mine has been primarily a BD machine as well... so that said, anyone know when a remote is going to be available? Seems pretty ridiculous you can't get a BD remote for either the XO or PS4 nearly two months after launch (and don't get me started on the Kinect cable length thing).

Xbox One really needs to amp up their apps - I still can't believe that this thing went to launch without them providing most (if not all) the apps they already have on the 360 - especially 'popular' ones like HBOGo. I'm hoping they'll add MLB.TV by March, but I'm not holding my breath.

Of course, I'm sure that every app approved by my cable provider (Comcast) for the 360 will now be blocked on the Xbox One.

It's called a Harmony remote. The Harmony 900 I own works perfectly.

Max, Peggle, Killer Instinct and Powerstar Golf are all solid download only games. Haven't played Halo: Spartan Assault enough to have an opinion. Plus CoD:G, FIFA, DR3, and Just Dance (got that for my daughter, but it's silly fun). I haven't played AC4 much, will start soon.

The lack of apps is disappointing. I want my Rhapsody, though my AV receiver can still play it. I can deal without HBO Go since I have a Chromecast.

Yeah, even the "cheapest" Harmony supports the Xbox One.

If you have everything connected to via HDMI, you will be able to control everything via those connections. Is that what you were asking?

No that's not what he's asking. According to Google searches it is about an inch to the right of the eject button.

Thanks for the effort!

It is a tiny freaking window. Right next to the eject button. Seriously if I move the blaster even 1/2 centimeter up down or right it doesn't work.

This made me lol: Xbox 360 app made $1m in 4 months for Pizza Hut

Online sales are constant source of fascination in the games industry, but it's often we're discussing the sale of hot cheesy bread. That could all change now Pizza Hut has revealed its Xbox 360 app saw $1 million worth of sales in just four months.

"It's been a source of unbelievable growth for us," director of PR for Pizza Hut Doug Terfehr told Polygon.

"Just the explosion of people who wanted to download it, experiment with it, play with it with Kinect. As soon as we did one, everyone was contacting us to do the next [one]."

"When you talk about a sweet spot for the pizza category it's definitely gamers and gaming. We're not done in that space."

The Pizza Hut app on Xbox 360 allowed gamers to order a pizza from their local outlets, with an option to use Kinect.

"We're always looking at ways to give our audience more of what they're interested in," said Microsoft's Larry Hryb when the app launched.

"If you look at our audience, they love pizza. I mean, who doesn't? It has international appeal, and Pizza Hut is a recognized brand that matches up well with the Xbox brand."

Well if it's anything like trying to turn on my Xbox using the voice control then Chinese food would probably show up.

I just picked up Assassin's Creed and am really impressed. First really great game I have played on the XO.
