I don't have a Xbox One yet. I have a 2 TB external hard drive so I plan on purchasing a 500 GB. I'm just interested in playing games and watching movies via blu-ray or streaming. I have a lot of Amazon credit that I'm dying to use on a console.

Also, pre-orders for the 500 GB and 1 TB are up on Amazon.com

Yes, the 4K option on Netflix is $11.99/month. Decent selection, and a lot of the Netflix shows are done in 4K. We use Netflix overall quite a bit at home for the kids, so I use that to justify the price for the 4K tier.

Thanks for the info. Do they have a category you can browse just for 4K stuff?

Not a category, but if you search for 4K, there's about 60 movies and shows as of right now.

Is that confirmed? I know Amazon has December 31st, but that's usually a default date they use when they first list stuff.

I pre ordered the 1 and 2 TB model and will just cancel which one doesn't come first. I don't need the 2 TB but if the 1 really doesnt come out until December (will probably be August) I will stick with the 2. Id rather have the 1 TB so ill keep an eye out on the release dates

So who's the intended audience for the Slim? Should I just wait for Scorpio?

Perhaps the 4K section only appears on the apps integrated into 4K TVs, or if you have enabled the 4K subscription.

New XBox buyers, people that want a UHD player, existing owners that want a smaller footprint or a larger internal hard drive. Seems like it's going to be over a year for Scorpio, and we don't know the price so there's a good chance it's more expensive. If there's existing XBox One games you want to play, seems like the S is a fine option.

Interesting, seems like the XBox One S is a bit faster too.

According to Fergusson, the Xbox One S has additional raw GPU and CPU power compared to the Xbox One, and The Coalition's engineers have been able to take advantage of that to reduce the frequency of frame rate or resolution penalties in more demanding sections of the game.

I was going to invest in a UHD for my home theater anyways... might as well make it this considering the price point.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

Hmmm so don't have a 4k tv and wasnt planning to get one until next year. Was going to get an xbox one sometime between August and Black Friday.

So do I buy a used Xbox one in August/September and then get the Scorpio when it comes out and I have my 4k tv or do I get a new One S in August and skip the Scorpio (at least for a long time after launch)?

Any bets on what I'll be able to pick up a used current gen One for in late summer/early fall? If it's $150 or less will probably go that route.

They're regularly $190 used (ie: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microsoft-XB...3D272252531254 , http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microsoft-Xb...254?rmvSB=true ) I'm sure it'll be $150 after this temp price cut.

Cool, looks like a used current model followed by a Scorpio next year.

So the Scorpio, it's not considered a next generation console, but considering how much more powerful it is compared to the Xbox One, should it be? Will the next console still come out in 4 or 5 years or is it much sooner since the Scorpio is considered a part of the Xbox One family? This is very different than going from Xbox 360 to a slimmer model.

Isn't the whole point (based on the announcement) to break away from "generations"?

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

I can certainly understand the draw, but I bought the XBone to play games plain and simple. I don't have a 4k tv and games aren't even running close to that anyway and I don't see it happening soon since they have a hard time with 1080. I know it's a console war but I'm not falling in to this one. As long as I can play the latest games they can keep throwing their stuff out there, but I'm not upgrading to get a better DVD drive.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

I'm the opposite. I have 4K and some 4K media, and the inclusion of UHD is what's making this my first XBox purchase. The price is right for this, so I'm finally buying in. I usually play games on my PS4, and unless XBox has some remastered games in 4K, I doubt I'll buy any games for it, or maybe a couple when they're priced for clearance.

How is 4K doing anyway? I haven't even looked at it since I don't have a compatible tv, but I can't imagine starting another collection in a different format. Is it prevalent enough that this is a real draw to people?
