Can leaving your Xbox One on for an extended period of time affect it? My friend swears he keeps his 5 One’s (don’t ask) on all the time and is always logged in. How is that remotely good?

yes, unless he means the very low power state of "Always On".
Obviously it really depends on the amount of time it is left on not being used and ventilation.
Turning on the system is also a big shock to the system...

It's gotta be in sleep mode and not actually on, I see no reason why anyone would want to leave one let alone five of them on at all times. In fact, even with sleep mode there are several times where the power brick on the original one had to be reset (not sure if anyone else experienced that) so I'm sure it's not good.

I don't understand why people would care about that. When I bought my PS4 and XB1 I didn't go man I hope I get to use my old controllers on new games. I was excited to use the new controllers on them. I mean I guess I would care back when I was a kid and local multiplayer was a thing but most everything is online multiplayer now anyways. You can still use them on PS4 games so not sure what the complaining is about.

as someone who bought an Elite Series 2 controller, I'm definitely glad it'll work with the Xbox Series X if/when I get it. That said, I don't think the PS4 has an equivalent 'pro' option, so while it'd be nice to use a standard PS4 controller as a 'backup' on the PS5, it's not a deal breaker by any stretch.

And honestly how often do people even use a second controller in their home? When my son was little we did co-op Lego games, and I suppose people play competitive Madden and NBA 2K on the couch sometimes. But I imagine it's not much and it should hardly be a deal breaker.
If the expensive fight sticks didn't work, that would suck. I still use my PS3 sticks sometimes.

Actually, not totally true. Before I got the Elite controller, I'd always have two on the go; one on the charger and one on the coffee table. I'd just swap them whenever one died. But with the new controller, I just put it on the charger every few days and never touch the others.
On PS4, we played that co-op cooking game for a little bit, but that was the only time we ever used both.
On Switch, we use two controllers all the time, much to my own frustration. This is because my kid loves doing local multiplayer in Animal Crossing, and none of us like using the joycons, so we use a pro controller and a 3rd party AC controller.

I wish 360 controllers worked on the One because the One controller was a big step down from the perfection that was the 360 controller. I can see wanting to use a $150 Elite controller or maybe Rock Band guitars, but otherwise it's not really a selling or sticking point for me. The new consoles come with a controller so

Two in the living room for steam games on the big TV via HTPC and two in the bedroom for the Xbox One S.

There's enough free to play online games that the pay model is a little bit outdated, I think. Especially if they're going to focus on GamePass and GPUltimate, I could see it being more profitable to have the membership service be that, versus online play.
I have 2 controllers, one is 'backup' for when my main controller needs to be charged. When my son was here we'd play at the same time and thus needed two.
With my current situation, odds are I don't need to a second controller with a new console, but being able to use existing ones so as to have backup or always-charged controllers will be a convenience.
I don't know if I've ever gone into a MS store.

I can see the battery pack being a con, but I don't recall it ever bothering me.

We also invested in a ton of rechargeable batteries. Absolutely critical.

I can’t recall having to replace a controller on any other console, ever.

I’ve replaced four Xbox One controllers — three due to stick drift, and a fourth that would just randomly disconnect. Weirdly, my Day One controller, which was my main until the Scorpio launched, still works like a dream. Cleaning didn’t work. I kept the firmware updated. Changing batteries for the chronic disconnector didn’t do the trick. The flakiest controllers were among the least used, so it wasn’t from excessive wear or unclean conditions.

The UI on the Xbox One is just awful now, especially in the Store. I made a concerted effort to find what the free Games With Gold games are without using any other source. I spent a half-hour browsing and could NEVER find them. It's terrible. The Sony Store is WAY, WAY easier to navigate. eShop is as well.

I’m going to have to get a new controller because my LB has died. It’s not something I use constantly but need it for some things.
Yeah, after they took GwG off the front page I finally found it in Store > Memberships.

Unless they've changed the interface in the last day or two, you can add a Games With Gold pin to your home page. Which means you can just click on that tile and it will take you straight to the games you can download for that month (and also shows you a preview of what's coming next month). Having a Games With Gold and a Game Pass tile on your home page makes it significantly more efficient to navigate. On the Game Pass pin it even gives you an option to only see the game that were recently added.
I have both systems but I actually find the Xbox Store much easier to navigate. That may just because I use Xbox more and am more familiar with it. But lots of different filters make it really quick to look for new releases, coming soon games, games on sale, ect.

Gotta agree to disagree. I kept trying to navigate to a Home Page in the store and just kept exiting the Store. When I tried to find Games with Gold I kept coming to a page that described the benefits of Gold without ever finding the games. It's very weird, as I have been a Gold member every day since the inception of the program. It shouldn't be this difficult for me to find.
I will try to add GwG to the Home page, but I have to find it first. Have found the store way more confusing than it's ever been.

I just "buy" them from the website now because I could never remember how to find them.
