Question on resource alerts... how many do you typically get? I saw there was a Morphics alert today while I was at my kid's game. Just curious how many I would have gotten if I was around to do it. Thanks'

There's usually a number listed in the alert. Saw one for "Plastids (300)" last night. If there wasn't a number, it was probably just one. The only resources I'd ever even consider doing an alert for, even if I were already online, are Neural Sensors and Orokin Cells, and even then, the alert runs probably aren't as efficient as boss runs. For Morphics, Hellas Mars will usually cough up between 2 to 5 per run, and maybe a bit more with a Nekros.

Snagged two alerts yesterday. Rifle Amp and Orokin Catalyst. Also got the Catalyst alert for my friend Diecast and on a whim ran a T1S off the recruiting channel trying to get his last Loki Prime part. It popped at 20 minutes, and I built it, so he'll have a nice surprise the next time he plays.

The rest of the night was Destiny, and the sad thing is that if that game were free to play, I'd probably stop playing it. But I'm $90 in, so I feel kind of obligated to give it some time.

I'm not sure if the Alert app lists the number. Good to know then I didn't miss anything. And thanks for Amp and Cat.

I assume level Boltor first and then Boltor Prime since it all adds to mastery rank experience anyway? And I failed the MR4 test (wasn't fast enough on the last 2 decodes). Grrrrrrr.

Re: Destiny. Me too and I really need/want to start playing that to give it a fair shake. Heck, I'm only level 4. I need to gain some levels so I can go shoot into that cave I've been reading about. ;) Seriously though, Warframe has been more fun and that's why I've been playing it every chance I get. But, I do have to continue with Destiny at some point.

EDIT: I alwayss forget to ask my add'l questions. Prime versions of Warframes. I'm reading the wiki on all the frames trying to figure out what other ones I want to try. If there is a prime version of a frame, is it still worth farming/building the non-prime?

I believe Update 14.5 drops tomorrow with lots of cool stuff:
  • New "Ice Planet" tileset
  • New Operation "Cryotic Front" with new event rewards (Wraith Latron and Ice Status set)
  • New mission type "Excavation"
  • New Mod UI
  • New Customizations for Kubrow (and the ability to get rid of ugly ones)
  • Nukor - microwave pistol with a beam that's straight out of 1950s sci-fi
  • Glaxion - freeze ray with a shattering effect that I pray extends to Frost
  • Kronen - dual arm blades that double as one of the cooler syandanas in the game when they're on your back

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1PjTeNYIGBY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/36ey4DdUKd8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And a substantial rework/buff for Oberon, a frame that I've always liked but who couldn't hang with the big boys/girls. Looks very very promising.

I have the app set so it only shows me alerts for mods, blueprints and items. All resource and credit alerts are turned off. That said, for a while there, they were doing alerts for credits into the six figures. Haven't seen that lately.

Yeah, level Boltor up and sell it off. It should be the most usable gun you've used thus far, especially since I put another couple of levels into your Serration, so you won't know what you're missing. But once you're done with the Boltor, you'll want to invest a potato and some time (and maybe a few Formas) into the Boltor Prime. It will be your go-to gun on most missions for a long time.

Destiny makes me sad. Just not a very good game. Just isn't.

Only for mastery, or if you happen to like their appearance, but the Primes are consistently cooler looking IMO. Additionally, the non-primes are more expensive to build since you have to buy the BPs. The other thing with primes is that they generally come with some kind of perk. The early primes only came with an extra polarity slot, so they were basically "one Forma" better than their non-prime counterpart. But both Rhino and Loki (the newest primes) have an actual statistical perk along with an extra polarity. RP is a little faster and LP has a bigger energy pool. I assume when Nyx arrives, she'll have a perk as well.

As for who to build next, you're in pretty good shape with Vauban, and you have all the parts for Nekros, who has great utility but isn't otherwise one of my favorites to play. I'd vote for farming towers (recruiting channel) for Frost Prime and Loki Prime and building whichever the RNG gods give you first. I've already gotten you a part or two for both. The nice thing about going for the primes is that you don't have to worry about a "better version" coming out after you spend a potato on a frame.

Oh yeah, I'm set for a while with frames (haven't touched Vauban, Nova will be done today, and have all Nekros parts) but, as you like to say, you always need to think/plan ahead. :D Good plan of action regarding Frost Prime and Loki Prime; hopefully I will get Frost first. What's the story with Trinity and Nyx? Both get ranked high on the official forums. Trinity seems to be all support so am worried about how she holds up in a fight (probably primarily a good grouping frame for survival/defense runs). Nyx seems cool with mind control powers. Also, interested in Banshee and Sayrn looks (aesthetic wise) very cool. Heck, I could find something cool in all of them. That's why this game is so cool.

You're almost certain to get Frost Prime before Loki Prime. First, Loki is still the newest prime, so getting in recruiting channel games for his parts can be a bit tougher. Second, two of Loki's parts drop in Survivals at 20 minute intervals.

Frost is pretty good, especially after being reworked a few updates ago, but don't sleep on Loki. He's amazing. He's also the only frame where I like to use all four of his abilities...and the way they blend together in clever strategic ways can really be a lot of fun.

Until her last update, Trinity was basically "god mode" with team invincibility for 30+ seconds, so you might be seeing comments about how she used to be. But now she's just a very good support frame with no crowd control.

Nyx is all crowd control and is incredibly useful. I just don't enjoy playing her for whatever reason. I'd sit on her and wait for Nyx Prime.

Saryn is solid. She eventually hits the same wall that other pure AOE frames hit where the enemies level beyond the point where she can kill them in one shot, and she suddenly has no utility. But up to that point, she's a ton of fun.

Banshee is the only frame that I never bothered to potato, if that tells you anything.

More on frames:

To be clear, every frame has some utility, and they're all perfectly usable at low level, and by "low level" I mean most anywhere in the game.

When I talk about high-level gameplay, I'm talking about long runs in survival and defense where enemies just keep scaling infinitely. The frames that just do pure damage with no crowd control or the ones with abilities that don't scale with the enemies are less useful in those settings, but that doesn't mean that they aren't fun to use while plugging through the solar system or popping into Mars to farm up some Morphics.

Some examples of abilities that "scale":
  • Rhino Stomp: Puts enemies in stasis regardless of their level (note that some bosses are now immune)
  • Nova's Molecular Prime: Debuffs and slows enemies at the same rate regardless of level
  • Loki's Radial Disarm: Removes enemy guns regardless of type or level (all of Loki's abilities scale actually)
  • Nyx's Chaos: Confuses enemies regardless of level
  • Nyx's Absorb: Absorbs enemy damage (any damage really) and projects it back proportionately
  • Trinity's Link: Functionally similar to Absorb. Projects enemy damage back at them.
  • Nekros' Shadows of the Dead: Revives the last 10 enemies you killed regardless of their level
  • Nekros' Terrify: Makes enemies run away regardless of level
  • Vauban's Bastille and Vortex: Both hold enemies regardless of level
  • Zephyr's Tornado: Similar to Vauban's Vortex but throws enemies around instead of pulling them together

There are also a few other abilities that don't exactly scale perfectly but that are close enough to make them really useful at high level. Examples include Frost's Snowglobe, Trinity's Blessing (which used to scale), Iron Skin, and Zephyr's Turbulence.

Aside from having abilities that scale, the frames above have something else in common. They're the frames that you always see doing advanced stuff. Coincidence?

But that shouldn't stop you from using other frames, because most of them have some real highlights.

Loving my Rhino Prime, thanks Chess! He is such a beast.

Updates:
  • Rhino Prime is rank 30 v2.0 (after forma'd).
  • Nova should be done tonight.
  • Boltor, Angstrum, and Dual Fangs are maxed.
  • Starting to rank Boltor Prime (f'ing badass gun!)
  • I bought these blueprints from the market since I don't have any secondary or melee weapons lined up - Kunai (throwing daggers), Magistar (mace) - both will also get me a trophy when ranked :D. Actually, I'm not sure if I started cooking them yet as it was late and I was tired.
  • Got the Rending Strike Nightmare Mod with Mooks
  • Will buy the Deathcube Sentinel

Questions:
  • I’m sure you explained this to me already… what is the best plan for weapons and leveling them? Buy BPs from the Market? Then, farm for Primes? As you can see from above, I hit a slight dead end as I didn’t have any weapons waiting for me. I’d like to have a ‘go to gun’ for each slot (Prim, Sec, Melee) even when it is fully leveled. This way, I can rank weaker guns but pull out the big bad boy when needed. Boltor Prime will obviously be my Primary slot’s go to gun; Boar Prime for Secondary since I’m 1 part away from it. Also have that Dread Bow (Primary).
  • I bought the BPs for Magistar and Kunai. Any other recommendations?
  • In what situations should I start using Nova (once she is cooked)? She needs levels so take her out for group mission runs? But still use RP when I want to farm creds or resources?
  • What do I do with duplicate frame/weapon parts and BPs? Sell for credits or get the other parts, cook the item and try to sell for Plat?

He's kind of a perfect starter frame IMO. It was great before Rhino Prime when you could grab a vanilla Rhino from Venus and have him as your first built frame, but now it's hard to justify a potato on a regular Rhino.

Pretty good progress there, and yeah, Boltor Prime is nice. Assume you put a Catalyst on it? I just dropped in to do an alert, and I decided to run some towers and level up the vanilla Boltor so we could get the Prime in your hands a little quicker.

I think you can afford to be a little more patient about leveling weapons now that you have the Boltor Prime. The whole point of getting your mastery rank up was to get access to the Soma, but the Boltor Prime is generally a bit better anyway. My advice would be to just use the Boltor and build lots of secondaries and melee weapons from the market until you get a secondary that you can realistically use as a primary. You're one part from a complete Bronco Prime set, so I'd focus on that along with the 10 Orokin Cells to build it. So yeah, pretty much what you just said. :)

No specific recommendations from the market. The reality is that most any gun is usable anywhere when potato'd and forma'd properly, so just build whatever sounds interesting. The only other guns on the market that I really dig are the Penta and the Akmagnus...and the Soma, of course. I guess what I'm saying is that it's time to just have some fun trying stuff out.

You're also at the point where you'll want to really invest some forma into a frame or two and a weapon or two. You could start with changing one of Rhino's ability slots or one of his existing "D" slots to either a dash or a "V". And Boltor will need some "V"s.

Nova is a good choice anywhere in the game when set up correctly, but she really shines when enemies are bunched up in Defense and Survival. It's also nice to have a good Nova in your group for time saving Wormholes. Rhino is better for solo missions and Nightmare Missions, which you'll probably want to do in the near future. For your first few levels on Nova, after you potato her and give her Energy Siphon, run some defense missions and Molecular Prime away. She and Rhino are the two quickest frames to level up IMO.

You can't trade/sell built weapons or frames. You can trade Prime parts, all mods, platinum, built helmets and Kubrow imprints. So hang on to the stuff that's tradeable on the trading tab, but sell off everything else for credits. I can't think of what you have that might get you some platinum right now. Think I picked up a Rhino Prime BP last night...might be able to sell that for 10-15 plat.

Also, at this point, you should be worried more about leveling mods than leveling weapons.

And you need to try to get the multishot mods: Split Chamber, Barrel Diffusion and Lethal Torrent

Hope we helped out last night getting the "3000" points...man that one map was huge and all over but did look good. Hope everything went well looking for the parts. I still need (3) Argon Crystals to get the two new weapons going. Maybe tonight?...

I left to go play Destiny and probably good timing....Sith was on running solo and was in the same place my Titan was so I joined him for two missions. He said he had one of those rare days off today and be back tonight so I might run with him later. Said he still is working a lot and hardly has time to play and they have another baby on the way

Agree about the new Ice Planet tileset. It can be confusing. But it's also new, so give it some time.

Hopefully, you saw my last message saying I wasn't going to be on as I can never tell if the PS app sends the message or not. I got on to download the update, start cooking my Kunai, and added Nova to inventory. That was about it.

So, will 3000 points will be easy for me to reach? I'm assuming if I can't group with Clan members, randoms ok? Would love to have all of the event awards.

Finally, regarding my #1 priority now of leveling mods, is there ever a reason NOT to fully level a mod? Maybe on some of those Corrupted mods where they have both + and - effects? Or, pretty much just max level all of the good mods?

I think it's the easiest event so far (at least to get all the loot). You'll basically do one run on Earth to get over 1000 and open up Europa and one run on Europa to get over 3000. I ran with some randoms on my Earth run and got about 2500 and then ran with some clan regulars on my second run and got over 6800. Then later, I ran them with Buzz and Kanjji to get them squared away.

I love the new game mode, and the new tileset is gorgeous, if a little confusing at first. I think all tilesets can be a little confusing at first though.

Finally, regarding my #1 priority now of leveling mods, is there ever a reason NOT to fully level a mod? Maybe on some of those Corrupted mods where they have both + and - effects? Or, pretty much just max level all of the good mods?
The only three mods I wouldn't max out (if I only had one) are:
  • Fleeting Expertise: The max efficiency a frame can reach is 75%, so a max Steamline (30%) and a Fleeting at rank 3 (40%) are a nice combo that gets you close to 75% without a monster hit to duration.
  • Blind Rage: The hit to efficiency can be harsh, but at rank 5 it's minus 30%, which is fully offset by a Streamline. Some people push that to rank 7, but I like it at 5 because I value efficiency more than power in most cases.
  • Narrow Minded: The hit to range can be a problem for some frames. At rank 7, Narrow gives you a minus 48% to range, which is almost entirely offset by a max Stretch (+45%).

Otherwise, yeah, max everything. But have a strategy for which mods you want to focus on first, because leveling some mods can be really really expensive. Mods that level to 10 will cost ~2.5M credits to max and hundreds of fusion cores. You'll also want a second max version of the corrupted mods above. If you get a second Fleeting, you'll want a max one for those frames that benefit from a Blind Rage. If you get a second Narrow Minded, you'll want it for frames that don't benefit from range. And I run a max Blind Rage on a few frames. My Nova build is pretty exotic, and it uses max versions of all 3 along with a max Overextended.

Your Fleeting is exactly where it needs to be, and you'll want to get that Narrow Minded to 7 for Nova soonest. Otherwise, focus your credits and cores on Serration and Hornet Strike for a while.

Oh, Goot, I forgot to tell you... the other day I got a drop in the tower for you called "Guardian". It's probably the single best sentinel mod and it's pretty rare. It makes your sentinel completely and instantly recharge your shield when it's fully depleted.

It's the only mod I ever bought for platinum, and it only comes from "treasure room" containers in the void or from Transmutation.

Send me an XO and I'll gladly play with ya! ;) Seriously, I hope you find some DVDTalkers to play with. It really helps out and makes the game more fun. But in the meantime, don't be shy to ask us your questions.

Goot,

Saw your post on GAF. Good stuff. Can't get there from work though, so better to ask questions here.

Wanted to get you prepped for Nova since she's done.

1. Give her your second potato...unless you think you might like Vauban more, but I think his applications are quite a bit more limited than Nova's, even if he is a lot of fun. I also think there's a decent chance you'll like Frost more than Vauban. Your call, obviously.

2. With a potato, Energy Siphon will give you 14 points, so start her out with Molecular Prime (maxed) and Streamline. You should have the right polarity slots for both, I think. On most frames, you'd start with Fleeting instead of Streamline, but she really needs the Duration to give her reach on her Molecular Prime. Its reach isn't a function of Range, as you'd be inclined to think, but rather is a function of distance traveled per second times how many seconds, which is affected by Duration.

3. After that, give her more reach with a level 7 Narrow Minded, which will allow you to...

4. Fleeting Expertise for efficiency

5. Then Stretch to offset the Narrow Minded

6. Finally, Redirection for a bit more shield

7. Should still have room for a Continuity (yet more reach for Prime)

8. Wormhole, because it's fun

Oh I know, will always ask them here. I just wanted you to know that the Goot is everywhere! I'm still lucky as I can get to DVDTalk and Neogaf from work but not to any other gaming related site.

Thanks for the Nova tips! Yeah, I want to try out both Vauban and Nova before I invest a potato. Hopefully, I will be able to get a good taste of what each can offer without installing one. I want to see which one is more my playstyle. Frost Prime does seem right up my alley too. I love the beefier frames that pack a punch. From what I've read and what you've told me, FP is that and more.
