Cool stuff, but I doubt you'll find it bothersome enough to spend the time or money. Also, an upcoming PS4 firmware will allow you to turn the light bar off.

For me, I think the light kills the battery. I swear this new dualshock's full charge lasts only about as half as long as PS3's controller.

That's actually about right.

Some guys over on NeoGAF tested a DS4 with and without the light enabled and a short version of the results was:

LED on: .08A (stable)
LED off: .03-.04A (variable)

Extrapolated "life" for DS4 battery "size":

LED on: 12.5 hrs
LED off: 28.6 hrs

[note that this was an "idle" controller, so not indicative of actual playtime but more of a guide for how much juice the lightbar draws]

The worst thing about the light on the controller is that awkward moment when I bump it while "enjoying" a late-night Playstation Live broadcast and for a brief moment I catch a reflection of myself in the screen.

I'm sure I will, this coupled with my PC setup has me pretty well covered moving forward (I've been playing Titanfall with a 360 controller via wireless HDMI, and I will continue to buy whichever has the cheapest version). So I'm good with that. The video setup sounds exactly how OnLive was setup, and I sincerely hope that the Playstation game streaming service works as well as OnLive did (and does, and it's kind of a crime that it never caught on:

I also own a PS Vita and am curious to see how well that works on my config. My biggest apprehension with the PS4 is how much I hated the PS3 gamepad, I'm still not entirely sold on the PS4 pad though it is a huge improvement. I also found the Xbox One controller to be a step backwards from the 360, so they're closer to even than ever.

Correction from @yosp, you can only DIM the light bar in upcoming PS4 firmware, not completely turn it off.

Wonder if that clarification is based on some technical limitation where it's hard wired in the controller or something. If you can "dim" it to nearly off, that might be good enough.

Still will drain the battery though, albeit hopefully not as much as full brightness.

Better than nothing, I guess. The light bar is about the only grievance I have with the system. In my theater setup, I keep the lights out when gaming and the light bounces off the backs of the chairs in front of me to the point where it can be pretty distracting. I was considering one of those decals to put over it, but will wait and see how effective the update is.

Hopefully by dimming the lightbar, the controller life will increase.. so far that has been my biggest complaint.

Yes, it dramatically shortens the battery life. The XO's is much longer. Plus you can't turn off the controller while watching a movie. You can't currently without getting out of the movie/app, which defeats the purpose.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, and post a step by step way to do it, because I can't figure it out.

1) Hold down PS button
2) Select "Adjust Devices"
3) Select "Turn Off Device"
4) Select your controller ("DualShock 4")

Definitely works mid-movie because I used to do that all the time when the console first launched. It works the same way in games and any other application too. It's labeled extremely poorly, especially in comparison to the faster and more straightforward Xbox One controller disabling.
