So that's pretty confusing, not sure what it could be. |

Helldivers looks great...and hard...friendly fire always on.

I'm a fan of Magicka by these folks, so this could be interesting. It's always fun to play Magicka, but you really have to play with folks that don't mind being team killed, lol because it will DEFINITELY happen.
From the looks of it, you may need the same thing for this game. Good stuff! |
re: PS4 Release Thread: Kill Launch App #Driveclub due October 2014!!!
It's been interesting to me how many of the people I'm playing PS4 with have migrated over from the Xbox 360.
K&A, foxDVD, TLWizard and I have been playing Warframe, and just about everybody we've met in game and play with regularly were primarily 360 guys last gen. Names won't mean anything outside of the Warframe circle, but Zombies, Wolf, Sith, Acog, Reaped, Reaper, and Drift were all primarily 360 last gen...basically everybody that I've played with long enough for it to come up in casual conversation, not to mention K&A himself. Purely anecdotal, but it's an interesting coincidence. |

I was going to bring this back up...looks a bit like Spartan Ops (Halo) with a Diablo III view. I'll follow this and see...the always on friendly fire...hmmm and about every article on this mentions it is hard. Hopefully a demo will hit.
As long as you and your friend laugh about it, the FF is no big deal. You go in knowing its going to happen. |

Helldivers looks fun. But, it looks like it would be right at home on the Vita. I bet I'll play it more often there.

There's a new rumor that Sony is planning on introducing a VR headset for the PS4 at the GDC in March. I'm pretty excited for this if it's true, as I don't have a PC to use with the Occulus Rift. My question is, do these headsets use some optical trickery to make your eyes think the displays are further from your eyes than they really are? I can't really focus on things that are much closer than 7-8 inches from me.

re: PS4 Release Thread: Kill Launch App #Driveclub due October 2014!!!
I'm not really sure, but doesn't the console have to spit out at least two screens at the same time for VR? Also, I expect a handful of games to come out for it, a handful of games to have some half-hearted option to use it, and then nothing else.

re: PS4 Release Thread: Kill Launch App #Driveclub due October 2014!!!
Yes but considering that's basically what it's doing for 3D as well I don't see that being a problem (a lot of game 3D runs in SBS mode). Considering how easy it is to implement VR into games (there are drivers on the PC that allow for it, with the game doing nothing special) I would think many would support it.

I don't know what your issue is, but it's not because you're logged into the PS4. I have my PS4 and PS3 logged in at the same time quite a bit. I'd ask if you have multiple PS3s, but even that wouldn't explain it. When I sign in on one PS3, it signs out the other one.
So that's pretty confusing, not sure what it could be. I still haven't tried to log in to my PS3 with the second username but I hope to this weekend. I really, really want to play the Last of Us DLC. |

PS4 open beta of Final Fantasy XIV starts at midnight PST. I haven't played an MMO since WoW 10 years ago, but since this is free for the beta, I figured it would be fun to give it a shot. I've heard great things about the game.

I mentioned this in the wrestling thread, but I think it also pertains here.
The WWE Network app is now available for the PS3 and PS4. While you can't do anything with them until Monday morning, you can at least have them on your systems, ready to go when the network launches. You can get them through the PS Store on each system or on the online store. |

Well...add another one that is considering porting a game for the PS4 only.
Routine Developer Considering PS4 Port Lunar Software wants to see sci-fi horror game Routine on PS4 once its PC version is out. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/...ering-ps4-port unar Software, the developer of upcoming sci-fi horror game Routine, says that it is considering working on a console port once the PC version is completed. "If we did do a console version it would be PS4-only," says Lunar's Jemma Hughes, speaking directly to IGN. "From a technical standpoint it would be far easier for us to port over as there would be much less need for optimisation." <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/LaZqV0o7EW4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

A slight update on Planetside2....nothing yet on the actual PS4 release...but a "New Look"
PlanetSide 2 just got a big makeover See what's been revamped in the Amerish update Planetside 2 is looking a little different today. Here's what's new. The Amerish revamp sees a number of performance optimizations that makes the overall object count and polygons per object more optimized. There's new base layouts too, and facility satellite outposts have been converted into stand-alone outposts. The Lattice System has been implemented, which will optimize map flow and repositions outposts. Lastly, nine new outposts have been added, and original outposts have been redesigned to reduce spawn camping and increase room for vehicle battles. PlayStation 4 users can expect this same content once the shooter is released on Sony's console as well. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ST_X0PVgofQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
re: PS4 Release Thread: Kill Launch App #Driveclub due October 2014!!!
My hopes for a properly optimized PS4 port of Planetside 2 are getting slimmer by the day. The engine is apparently very CPU intensive, where the PS4's strength is GPU and RAM.
Hope they sort it out. With BF4 having so many connectivity issues and CoD being CoD, there was a real opportunity on PS4. |
re: PS4 Release Thread: Kill Launch App #Driveclub due October 2014!!!
My hope was that it would be nice filler from launch until whenever Destiny launches. Once Destiny is out, interest in Planetside 2 drops to roughly 0.

Dead on....and once the game hits it's anyone's guess after that. The game will take a lot of involvement and time and since Bungie is in charge, they have a long term vision much like they did with Halo but 20 times over. Planetside 2 in itself is no short term run-thru which the longer they wait the shorter the amount of time between it and not just Destiny but several other games coming as well...like The Division which looks to be real stunner. |
re: PS4 Release Thread: Kill Launch App #Driveclub due October 2014!!!
I don't know.
If they're able to make it run properly on PS4, Planetside 2 should be sufficiently unique to find a market. It's a 2000 player multiplayer shooter with tons of vehicles, mechs, jetpacks etc., and AFAIK, Destiny is something else entirely...sort of a persistent coop Borderlands meets Half Life. Granted, there is only so much time to play, but I don't think the two games have a special relationship where they compete with each other any more than they compete with any other game. |

Over 322,000 PS4 consoles sold on Japanese opening weekend
http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/25/54...apanese-launch The PlayStation 4 appears to be off to a good start in Japan. According to figures from Japanese magazine Famitsu, 322,083 PS4 consoles were bought in the first two days on sale — that's nearly four times as many as the 88,443 PS3 systems sold on its opening weekend back in 2006. NEARLY FOUR TIMES AS MANY AS PS3 However, the circumstances were a little different. While the PS3 was extremely supply-constrained for its first few months, and its successor remains hard to find around the world, Sony appears to have secured a lot of PS4 stock for the Japanese launch. It's also worth noting that the Wii U sold 308,570 units in Japan in its first week on sale before Nintendo's numbers nosedived. Still, if Sony can maintain a healthy pace of sales in its home territory as it has elsewhere, the Japanese giant has reason to feel encouraged. Famitsu home console openings: (from http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=774695) 1998.11.27 [Sega Dreamcast] (¥29.800) - 101,490 (3 days) 2000.03.04 [Sony PlayStation 2] (¥39.800) - 630,552 (2 days) 2001.09.14 [Nintendo GameCube] (¥25.000) - 133,719 (3 days) 2002.02.22 [Microsoft XBox] (¥34.800) - 123,929 (3 days) 2005.12.10 [Microsoft XBox 360] (¥29.000 / ¥39.795) - 62,135 (2 days) 2006.11.11 [Sony PlayStation 3] (¥49.980 / ¥59.980) - 88,443 (2 days) 2006.12.02 [Nintendo Wii] (¥25.000) - 371,936 (2 days) 2012.12.08 [Nintendo Wii U] (¥26.250 / ¥31.500) - 308,570 (2 days) |

Not a bad start.
What the hell happened to Japan? Used to be a huge gaming market. |

re: PS4 Release Thread: Kill Launch App #Driveclub due October 2014!!!
I don't just mean in the context of the PS4, which actually sold quite well.
They used to be second only to the US as a gaming market, and given their relative size, their "gaming culture" was far more robust than anybody else's. They also developed the best games. Now the UK and the rest of Europe have pulled to the forefront of both sales and development, and the PS4 is very much a console designed by and for the West. It's also sad to see marques like Capcom and Konami flounder and even Nintendo to a lesser degree. But PS4 is doing fine there. The initial shipment sold out, and another batch will be in stores this week supposedly. It's crazy to say out loud, but I think 7 million PS4s sold by the end of March is a very real possibility. |
