I agree, especially with the way consoles evolve now. The PS3 and 360 are competely different consoles now than they were at launch. I expect both PS4 and X1 to improve over time as well, and some of those incoming improvements are obvious and easy.

I swear, when X1 gets great reviews from the same sites next week based on the "potential of Kinect" after the same sites discounted the "potential" of an extra 500-600 MFLOPS of compute power...

Yeah, for sure. He was pretty pumped for the console, even though he admits he doesn't really know why, :lol:. So it was a bit of a let down, but I bet if I ask him in a week, he'll agree that the deal he got was pretty sweet. It did ruin his plans of being "sick" today, but I'm guessing he'll shift that to Monday.

The show was pretty terrible, but I do agree with this. The first thought that came to mind was how different the reaction would be if you swapped the Uncharted teaser to a Halo 5 teaser and the Destiny beta reveal to a Titanfall reveal how people would be creaming their pants.

The show should have trimmed the fat and been 30 minutes. They had about 10 minutes of actual show padded to 45. I think the complaints wouldn't have been as severe had that been the case. Oh and leave that lame MGS shit out of it.

General experience:

Best Buy Midnight launch - pathetic - didn't seem like anyone really knew what they were doing; I went about 10 minutes after to miss any of the crazies.

I just had to do a store pick-up to get it, I was blocked by 1 sales guy giving me a 10 minute spiel about the $800 Ultimate package, other games and accessories, making sure I wasn't some nitwit who wouldn't know if the PS4 was compatible with my equipment, day 1 update... they recommended I do it via USB because you know... stuff could happen... Gamers Unlocked program and benefits which I am well aware of and already have... just eff off man...

Went to the pickup counter... couldn't find the system with my name on it... wtf.... then they finally found it, but I was also doing another store pick-up for the Xbox One play & charge kit... could not find that either... checked the order on their system... yeah should be up here.... . No shit!.... someone goes out back to get one.... 10 minutes later... finally leaving the store... no wait... they gotta check the serial of the PS4 against my receipt.... nope, different number... gee what is going on... oh look dummy, it is a store pickup so the serial isn't on the receipt, just match the names... duh!

It did seem like they had a lot more systems available for walk-ins :shrug:

Go home and set up the system...

The controller... come on baby... omg, feels good!

no Ethernet cable? cheap bastards :lol: - oh well, at least they included the HDMI cable this time. :) (I have extra Ethernet cables)
Power cord seems kinda short for what I need... yep... not a big issue, just moved the surge protector over...

Go to turn on the system.... no idea where the power button is.... start molesting it... found it, turns on. YAY!

Sit on the couch and grab the controller to set it up.... connect the controller to the console... .son of a bitch!


Debating, doing update via USB or just internet like every other update, hook up the camera.... No!... connect network... blah blah blah... oh look the update is already on my system ready to install... Sweet!

Installs without any issues.

Sign in to PSN... nope... wth... come on... go baby go baby go... you son of a... this time... ok this time.... getting tired of entering my password.... this time.... this time.... damn I'm tired.... this time.... this time... shut if off, turn it back on.... this time... this time.... Sony tricked me again! Bastards!.... this time... this time.... screw this! going to bed!

3 hours later, wake up and decided to give it another go... this time.... this time.... this time... connects! waits for disconnection.... none! :rock2:

Downloads everything, plays Resogun 1st, awesome!

Puts in Killzone... video seems to hitch while other games are installing? bah!

Played for a little bit... very tired... go to bed *snip*


And I think that is the longest post I have ever done here... :eek:

I didn't think consoles came with Ethernet cables? But yeah, as expected there were a ton of consoles shipped out. Every Best Buy in town has some available.

I told myself I'd wait for Infamous Second Son to pick up a PS4, but the fact that these systems are reportedly readily available in a bunch of stores is really tempting me today.

I'd probably buy a PS4 right now if either Best Buy or Walmart offered online purchases for it (they accept Bill Me Later) but they don't so I'm good :lol:

Assume you're talking about the NFS video I linked from Digital Foundry.

I believe they are both 1080p and locked at 30 FPS. I think the little 2 FPS blips to 28 or 32 on both are just as likely to be sensitivity of the equipment involved as anything actually happening in game.

Both versions look great with no substantive differences as far as I can tell, and the game looks like a blast for fans of open world arcadey racers. I have no regrets picking it for my third game based on what I've seen so far, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either version. :)

yah, this will be an issue. I was going to wait for ISS, or Destiny or The Order, but if there's a good Amazon bundle on BF or at BJ's/Costco it will be hard to resist.

Yeah, I agree with that, except that my expectation would be that developers don't sacrifice framerate to get to a resolution just for the sake of doing it.

I wouldn't want a developer to bump a PS4 game up to 1080p over X1's 720p unless it could hold the same framerate at that resolution. IW seems to have messed that up with CoD (900p or even 720p would have been fine), but there's supposedly a day one patch and Digital Foundry hasn't done an objective comparison yet.

I really don't think it will.

Yes it does, but inspect it and the HDMI port before plugging it in.

That was the problem Kotaku had with theirs...HDMI cable damaged HDMI port.
