Yeah, I mean it's not awful looking, but it definitely isn't a good looking game, by any stretch. Texture resolution is just horrible. Even Ultra on PC leaves a lot to be desired.

But again, whatever, it's Fallout, the graphics are irrelevant.

Agreed. Bethesda takes a lot more time making games as a result they use older graphics engine that will not look as good as other games using more recent graphics engines. It's the fun gameplay and great atmosphere that get me to play.

The graphics look bad. There is no other way to say it.

I can't wait until Monday night and spend hundred of hours playing this game though! :D

I'm not a huge graphics whore, though. I'd play this if it was PS3 only.

The graphics look great to me. I wonder if there's a correlation between someone's age and whether or not they think the graphics are good. I'm 47 and remember two years ago on the PS3 just staring in awe at the scene in Tomb Raider where she's on the cliff with the water and sky in the background. Just beautiful.

No. I'm 44, brought up on Atari. And I'm not going to compare it to games on the 2600 - I've been comparing it to stuff I've been playing recently, like Witcher 3. And while it does things differently, comparatively, it looks like ass. Bad example too, as TR on the PS3 was cutting edge at the time and did look amazing then.

Yeah, I'm not at all saying that it doesn't look fun or that I'm not looking forward to playing it.

For those getting the game IGN basically has a Fallout 4 mania coverage going on their site right now...

And Gameinformer just released their review......9 of 10

reviews coming in pretty hot 9 - 9.5. mostly similar reactions: graphics are fine but not "next-gen" spectacular. great story. changes to VATS and gear seem good. mixed-reviews on new skill-tree system. little glitchy but not as bad as last-gen games. new settlement feature well received.

Just out of curiosity, I'm a fallout newbie - I played 3 but not for long. I wanted to ask if this is the type of game you can freely roam easily - meaning do they make you gather a ton of stuff and complete a ton of missions before opening certain spots on the map or letting you build certain things.

I ask this because Fallout is a massive game and I'm simply not going to have the time to play hours on end.

Re: Fallout 4

The previous games pretty much let you go wherever you want, whenever you want, however you want. The only thing you'll run into is some areas you stumble across will most likely have deadlier enemies that will require you to be higher level to be able to survive.

But, if you are able to survive, you'll get better stuff and accelerate the leveling up process.

Destructiod gave it a much more modest review at 7.5. Basically saying it's more of the same; both good and bad.

RPGamer said the same, that the main story is pretty lackluster and there is a lot of carryover from previous titles.

Canis Firebrand 11-09-15 08:37 AM

Do you actually have to preorder the game from somewhere to get Fallout 3 code? Or just buy it within a certain time period? I was planning in picking it up tomorrow from target to take advantage of the buy 2 get 1 free offer they have in games. But if it has to be preordered I may do that at Best Buy to get the free $10 reward zone points and discount from GCU.

I'll reserve judgement but I'm not wild about the changes to VATS I'm reading about. It doesn't stop time, it just slows it. No ability to target body parts (to cripple a charging deathclaw for instance)... I'm already hoping a modder will eventually undo this change.

i thought i read there's only no-targeting when using melee weapons (or maybe when at close range with any weapon, not sure though.

I hope I read that wrong... that would make me very happy. :)

Performance analysis

For now though, evidence so far suggests those buying Fallout 4 on console should get an overall smoother experience from PS4. It's far from perfect, and we have a suspicion re-tests will be due once each machine receives new patches down the line. As ever, we'll update as new information comes in. Meanwhile, for those with PC as their platform of choice, all the signs look good for a smooth experience even on budget kit. We're currently putting together an in-depth guide to settings tweaks and recommended setups, so expect that in the next couple of days.
