They are working until the last minute polishing the game. So I will be sure to read the entire reviews and not just the numeric score.
And stop posting those gifs!!! I want that game now. :( |

A review embargo till the last minute is never a good sign especially when all the other big games are being reviewed yesterday and today. *It shows microsoft has no confidence in the title. *Plus it was originally a kinnect only game. *All signs point this being a bad game that looks beautiful.

you are missing something. most of those are in game scenes that transition right into gameplay with no loss in quality. it's not like the days of watching a cool pre-rendered scene, then going into the game and it looking nothing like the game.

No, they aren't. Even from the crappy quality youtube videos it's obvious that everything is being rendered in-game, they aren't pre-rendered.
In either case, it doesn't look like my sort of game. Stuff that graphically brutal really turns me off. I'm more looking forward to Killer Instinct than this. |

User ratings of the game so far. I guess this was taken from the new smartglass app that allows you to see game info, etc.

Yeah, I imagine 600 of those are MS employees. ;)
And yes, it's from the new app. I looked at that screen this morning. |

Okay, fair enough, they're in-engine. But still, that gif above that's actual gameplay footage : It's still very nice looking, but nothing like those other gifs. I don't think those previous ones are representative of actual gameplay.

Re: RYSE: The Gloriously Official 900p Exclusive Thread (Xbox One)
Animation still looks weak to me, but the overall visuals are still nice.
Gameplay still has me questioning the game though. But yeah, it isn't a pre-render to render hand-off anymore, the cutscenes are being done in engine which is nice. |
Re: RYSE: The Gloriously Official 900p Exclusive Thread (Xbox One)
Isn't that all cut scene until the end where he suddenly freezes and the reticle pops up?
And BTW : 650 Xbox fans who haven't played the game give it a score of four-and-a-half stars? Fucking sold!!!! I hope there's still time to pre-order it. |

Re: RYSE: The Gloriously Official 900p Exclusive Thread (Xbox One)
They're getting excited because it's not pre-rendered and shows what the system "can" do. With real gameplay, you're still going to be limited by camera angles and the likes. The reason this is so seamless is because it's still in gameplay mode, it's just a scripted event (or so they're claiming, the animation is much better in these sequences than it looks like it is during gameplay so I have my doubts.)
Similarly - if those computer-animated blu-ray movies were rendered in real time by different blu-ray players, there would be similar geek outs over which on-the-fly animation rendering platform is superior. |

Because it's (better than) Toy Story rendering in real time!!!!
Or is that a thing of the past? |

My point here is, and always was : Why would anyone get so excited about great-looking videogame cut-scenes (even one that almost seamlessly transition into gameplay)? They're still cut-scenes and I have plenty of pretty computer-animated blu ray movies to watch if that's what I want to be doing.

I need to stop looking at this game, or i might end up buying it before i see the reviews.

The best looking games always come later in a console's lifecycle. Launch games suffer from developers being inexperienced with the hardware. In three or four years we will be seeing games that make Ryse look ugly in comparison, just like PS3/360 launch games look compared to later games like Uncharted and The Last of Us. And people claim that we have approached diminishing returns. Diminishing returns, my ass. Ryse already makes the last gen look old as hell. |
Re: RYSE: The Gloriously Official 900p Exclusive Thread (Xbox One)
Gears of War and Uncharted came out a year after their respective launches. So we should have a better idea in a year from now.
