RYSE: The Gloriously Official 900p Exclusive Thread (Xbox One)
 

All the hot RYSE: SON OF ROME chat is really weighing down the official Xbox One thread so I thought it was time to split things off into its own.

As you know, RYSE is the worst game of Generation Eight and runs at a sub-true HD resolution (900p) that only mental patients can see. Here's some footage:

I thought I was the only one interested in this game considering how much everyone shits on it. If I keep my One pre-order then I plan on getting this with it.

Nope, in all honesty this game was on my radar starting at E3. I figured I'd get the Day One version at launch and if it actually ends up being bad (instead of the internet version of bad) I can unload it quick. My expectations are in check though... looks like a fun hack and slash B-movie good time.

I still have it pre-ordered and have wavered back and forth on whether or not to keep it.

The fact that they announced a season pass that consists entirely of multiplayer maps and doodads is the biggest strike against it in my mind.

Normally I would groan about a season pass, but since it is all multiplayer it doesn't bother me because Ryse is not a game I would ever play multiplayer on.

Went ahead and canceled my preorder. Only reason I hesitated doing so was I used that $6 off coupon at Amazon on it a while back.

My sources say that the SP is 30 minutes with 9 hours of cut scenes. No word yet on multi.

Is it just me or do the next-gen consoles just seem underpowered?

Typically consoles and PCs leapfrog each other. By that I mean the next-gen console is more powerful than PCs, but PCs become more powerful within a couple years. Then the next-next-gen console comes out and is more powerful than PCs again. They just leagfrog each other.

This next-gen seems different though. They aren't more powerful than current PCs since PCs can already run games natively at 1080p at 60 fps. Heck, 1440p is slowly entering the PC gaming scene now.

Diminishing returns? Not really. Look at high-end games now compared to high-end games from 2005. There's a night and day difference. Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R., and Doom 3 were high-end games in 2005.

8 year development time? What does that matter? The next-gen consoles should be more than capable of running native 1080p at 60 fps. The fact that they aren't just makes them look really weak in comparison to current PCs. Next-gen consoles have always traditionally been more powerful than PCs at launch. Remember the power of the Emotion Engine (PS2) or the power of the Cell (PS3)? They were more powerful than current PCs of the time.

Then PCs became more powerful than the PS2.
Then PS3's Cell was more powerful than 2005 PCs.
Then PCs became more powerful than the PS3.

They just keep leapfrogging.

EXCEPT this new generation which is already less powerful than 2013 PCs. These new consoles failed to leapfrog.
