Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

Anyone picking this up tomorrow? I keep getting pressured from my friend to get it. I only Played platinum and thought it was pretty fun but couldn't get hooked. Might give this one a shot.

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

Picked up a 3DS XL this week (well, I'll get it Tuesday), so I'm definitely going to give this a try. It's been a long time since I've played a Pokemon game though, maybe since the GBA? Ordered it and the new Zelda through the B1G1 40% off sale that TRU is doing right now.

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

I've never played Pokemon, but these games got very good reviews, so I ordered Pokemon Y through the TRU sale.

Also never played any Pokemon. But I guess I should see what all the fuss is about. Probably gonna pick up X tomorrow.

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

I have never played a Pokemon game and these are getting great reviews....I'm still undecided though as I just played through Shin Megami Tensei IV, which is also a "collect and level up" hundreds of monsters game.

I still have a $30 credit to the eShop and Zelda will be an instant buy anyway so maybe I'll use the credit for Pokemon Y. decisions decisions...

On a side note, I picked up Tales of the Abyss for $20 on sale at Target. I do like my JRPGs so that might eat up my time until Zelda.

They're doing midnight release for this?

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

It's nice to see my kids still into the series since the Red/Blue of the late 90s. My younger daughter picked her X up midnight release at Gamestop, and my older one is downloading Y from the eShop. They are separated by 6600 miles but will find time to play with each other while in college.

I have to wait for TRU to ship mine, but I won't have much time to play this weekend anyway.

I'm heading to TRU tomorrow for mine, but I won't have much time due to the Zombie Pub Crawl tomorrow and the impending hangover on Sunday.

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

Played for about an hour. Liking it so far but random encounters with monsters gives no money?! This is weird as all jrpgs i've played gave out money and some items.

Well eight hours later (including one from my go yelling because I didn't do any housework) I know what the fuss is about. Game is like crack.

Just from the hour I played yesterday, I was hooked. This feels like the biggest overhaul so far but somehow things are still the same. I fucking love WonderTrades

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

I'm digging X except for those goddamn roller skates, those are awful. Thankfully someone found that you can use the D pad to walk/run while the Circle Pad is the skates.

If anyone wants to get a Friend Code exchange going for Trades, O Powers, etc, my FC is 1762-2679-6740

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

I took my daughter to Toys R Us on saturday so she could buy Pokemon Y. We got there a minute before opening and ended up 2nd in a line that ended up being like 4 people.
She had the game crash on her and lose a bunch of stuff. I told her to just save more often. Its a good life lesson.

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

I gook my grandson to a GamesStop Thursday to get the free character for the old games. The clerk asked if we'd pre-ordered so we said "Yes, at another store". He said GameStop had a "free character they'd hand out with the game plus a poster today" so we cancelled the other pre-order and did one at GameStop. When we picked up the game Saturday (no line, no waiting) there *was* no "free" character from GameStop - The clerks in the store were pretty clueless about that and didn't know what that first guy was talking about. Turns out it's apparently the one you get no matter where you make the purchase. I was a bit pissed as the move cost ~$5 (difference in price and sales tax) plus gas/time for a extra trip to GS and all he got was the crap poster. Unfortunately he opened the game in the store as he thought he'd need to have it in his DS to get the "free" character (you *do* just not in the store). At least we cancelled the player's guide he'd also pre-ordered (they didn't even get them!) so he could pick up a hardcover version online for $1 less.

He got Pokemon X and what little he's been allowed to play he liked. He got grounded from the DS right before we left for the store so all he was able to play so far was on the trip home and a few minutes before his mom picked him up - about 20 minutes.

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

So, I just read over at CAG that some Pokemon will only evolve if your 3DS/2DS is held upside-down...

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

Downloaded Y, about an hour in and am enjoying it so far. It is my first Pokemon game and I just got myself a Pikachu so I feel better.

I am enjoying it so far. Is the only thing you spend money on Pokeballs and potions? (and clothes?). I am used to other RPGs where there are 100 things to buy at the store and I don't want to waste my money on extra potions if there is something cool in the next town, haha.

I really like:

Spoiler:
The "XP share" you get after the first gym badge...swapping Pokemon in and out to get them all experience would be a pain. Seems like they are being kind to avoid level grinding with a bunch of different pokemon

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

I still haven't gotten a shipping notice from TRU. There is one on my way to work, so I stopped in. My plan was to buy the same game, Y, and return the unopened one when it arrives in the mail. However, I noticed they were still doing the buy one get 40% off deal, and I was eyeing Mario Kart, so I said screw it and went ahead and bought Pokemon X instead. I could have bought Y, but my roommate had bought Y so I figured this way we can trade. I will either return Y unopened, or, if I think it's really vital, keep both. I'll probably return Y though.

Re: Pokemon X and Y (3DS)

I'm debating on getting Y just for the different Mega Evolutions alone.
