And the update is out for the PS3. Came on a little late here in the states.

Pretty much impossible to connect to a server (as expected). I did create my character, including giving him a shirt with our crew logo on the back.

Also got my first online trophy for getting through the intro.

I did the same

Are you allowed to completely customize your character, or is it like Red Red Redemption where you have to pick from a selection of unlocked avatars?

fumanstan 10-01-13 10:07 AM

Tried to hop in, created a character, hung on loading session trying to do the first race.

The character creation lets you pick what your grandparents on your dad and mom's side look like, and then generates a character based on that, while allowing you to slightly angle your likeness towards your mom or dad's side.

And then lets you customize basics like hair color, hat, glasses, clothes. That's about it.

I probably won't even get into this right away.

MasterofDVD 10-01-13 11:51 AM

A minute ago I got an error that said I needed to be signed into Live, I already was, in order to play the single player game. I guess things have to get worse before they get better?

Re: GTA Online Thread Of Law Abiding Citizens

FAIL  I got online and was able to complete the initial intro but then got stuck at "launching session" like a billion other people.

I mean, to not even be able to play is pretty craptastic on Rockstar's end - there is no excuse for this. It may sound like I'm bitching but I'm not, I don't really care too much about multi-player in general but I can understand the view of the people who are pissed about this.

Also, the latest update messed up a lot of people's single player games (all of their money is missing, lost items, things reset, etc....).

The really big disappointment? Those who have managed to successfully play online say it's just like all their other titles that have tried multiplayer and failed (City is beyond dull, missions are flat, etc...)

Whatever though - I still check it out and they should have at least some of this fixed in the next six months are so I would assume.

Re: GTA Online Thread Of Law Abiding Citizens

I'm not overly upset or surprised this was a total fiasco. Honestly though, since they didn't release the online portion at release I expected a bit more. Most companies don't get two weeks to test the waters.

I did get to get in once and not go right to the first race so I hijacked a car and drove around. It kept asking me to go to the race circle but I couldn't even find it since there was no map button that I could find. So I just drove around the city for a while till I got bored and exited. I'm sure it will get better but if it doesn't I'll finish up the single player in the next week or so and move on.

I'm not done with the single player, so it doesn't bother me. Having been through multiple bad Blizzard title launches as well as Sim City, i'm not surprised either. Although I half expected them to delay a bit given the massive sales of the game. I'll take my time and probably try it again in a week or so

I was online very early this morning, right after it went live, and had no trouble getting through the intro missions and several matches of different types, as well as a bit of free-roam. Looks like the situation has changed a bit since then.

Yay! We can't finally play online!

Sure hope the next generation of cloud based architecture works better than this!

I don't know why anyone would even think this would work at launch. No massive online thing works on launch day.

I've said it twice already and I'll say it again.....there is no excuse for this on Rockstar's end. People just aren't use to seeing their "Business" side.

Re: GTA Online Thread Of Law Abiding Citizens

Same as everyone. Long day, put my kids to bed, turned on my PS3 to play GTA online, I'm 20% in single player, but wanted to try some online, and yeah, after the long load of the game, it says that I need to sign in into PSN first, WTF!, so I try to do that and... surprise! New firmware!

20-30 minutes later, let's try again. OK, now I can customize my character, I'm ready for action, I check all the setting and go for default, just to not complicate things. "You can not host a GTA game" or something like that.

:(

I actually tried a few times, just in case, but no luck.

At least I was able to play 20 more minutes of the single player story.

Because it wasn't launch day but rather two weeks later. Imagine how pissed Call of Duty fans would be had they got the same message over and over again on the actual release day. I understand that having some problems is bound to happen but to have it unplayable is the same as not even having it online. Maybe they should have spent some of that billion dollars they made in order to get new servers online to meet their part of the agreement. And yes, providing online service is part of their agreement and most likely why the numbers of sales were higher for this one in the first few days than any game in the series.

I just read someone tried to start a mission and a message popped up saying "you don't have enough money to start this mission. He went to his bank statements and he's -$500. It's kinda bullshit you have to have money to start a mission. Apparently you also lose money when you die in death match!

Re: GTA Online Thread Of Law Abiding Citizens

The PS3 side of things finally seems to be working. I've gotten in a few hours now, all the way up to Rank 6. I just unlocked the sporting events (golf, tennis, darts, arm wrestling). Still can't afford even the cheapest garage, so I'm living out of my car!

And something of a positive: you can't unlock the RPG until you get to Rank 100.

MasterofDVD 10-02-13 10:30 AM

Tried to join a fellow DVDTalker's game. It said I needed to finish the tutorial so I jumped back into GTAO and was finally out of the infinite waiting to start the first race loop. I ran off, got in a car and it was telling me to to head to a waypoint to start the race. I drove to the waypoint and jack shit happened. This is fucking insane.

Brooklyn 10-02-13 11:39 AM

Re: GTA Online Thread Of Law Abiding Citizens

The same happened to me as described above, but after quitting out and restarting the race went forward as it should have. After that I did some drug fetching mission, then several other things that made up the tutorial. Played through that until I opened the freedom of joining any mission available on the map (there are more than quite a few). I think I'm rank 4, and noticed that you also gained RP for stunt-related things like flipping cars while airborne.

So I admittedly don't know much of how GTA O works, it's sounding like it takes a little bit out of COD's book for online with RPG type leveling and what not?

Re: GTA Online Thread Of Law Abiding Citizens

So I created my character yesterday complete with my crew shirt but could never actually get online. Now today I can get online but had to recreate my character and now it says I have no crew. Anyone else experience this?

EDIT: Looks like I'm not getting online today either. I've been standing in a parking lot with about 5 other people(was about 10 at one point) doing nothing at all for 10 minutes now waiting for the session to be launched.

Barth 10-02-13 02:19 PM

Re: GTA Online Thread Of Law Abiding Citizens

All I keep getting when trying to go online is "cloud servers are unavailable". Also, my character doesn't show up in the character wheel any more so I'm betting the one I created yesterday is gone.

Same here I'm stuck in parking lot waiting.
