Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
Some of the figures you can only get with the playsets so if you want that figure then you have to buy the bundle (e.g., the new Captain America bundle, Force Awakens bundle is the only way to get Rey, etc.). The playsets are pretty cool in their own right and you/the kids will probably want them eventually. The playsets offer a campaign based on that particular set. Note though that the figures you can use in each playset are limited. For example, you can't use a Marvel character in a Star Wars playset or vice versa. One of the big knocks against the game in my opinion as we should have been free to use any character in any playset. But, you can use any figure in any of the downloadable Toy Box maps (or if you make your own). This is one of the concerns once the servers shut down, will these still be playable or downloadable. Grab 'em now to be sure.
What I'm curious about is the availability of the last run of figures (Black Panther, Ant Man, Alice, Nemo, etc.). They probably did not make as many of these as they knew they were shutting down. Black Panther and Ant Man are sold out online at BB and not available at any stores near me. I can still get on Amazon. Wondering if I should grab all of the figures now while I still can.

If you want to play something resembling a traditional game, you need the playsets. Otherwise all there is is the toybox, which is build your own game, or download games that other people have made.

Toys R US is now having a more than half off select toy box play sets sale. I'm going sometime this week to pick some up and put them up for Christmas.

Yeah I may buy an extra set or two as well to go along with all the other stuff I bought yesterday.

I'm starting to think picking this up was a bad idea
Even with the sale prices, this is going to start adding up. I'm not sure how some of you managed to grab most/all of these things for the past 3 years.

The Capt America set is $20 this week at Best Buy, $16 with GCU. Some other figures on sale as well. We need the newest Marvel and TFA to complete our set.

Thanks for the Target tip! Everything is indeed 1/2 off at my local Targets and the 30% off Cartwheel was a nice bonus!
Figures came to $4.98 each including the new Nemo and Alice figures
Starter box was $22 for XBox One
I'm going out tomorrow again to finish off the collection and then throw my wallet away.

With the exception of 2 FX figures(Amazon and GameStop ex.), I ordered the 10 remaining figures I needed for 3.0. The only things left that I plan on picking up are the Dory playset and the Zootopia discs. Best Buy shipped the 10 figures in a box big enough to hold the whole 3.0 series in.

I picked up Black Panther and Antman last night at Target. Right under $5 each with the cartwheel.
I don't really have an interest in Vision and Ultron, I'm not really missing out on anything if I don't pick those up, correct? Like they don't have a big impact in the game or anything?

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker
The only thing that you will miss by not having those characters is the ultimate unlock. In every version of Disney Infinity, there is an ultimate unlock for collecting all the characters. I believe that each of the unlocks carries forward into the next game if you collect all the older characters in the new game as well.
In Disney Infinity 1.0, the ultimate unlock was a green lightsaber which could be wielded by any character in toy box. You must collect all the 1.0 characters (not including crystal versions) to unlock it.
In 2.0, the ultimate unlock was Luke's Landspeeder. You must collect all the 2.0 character (not including Crystal Mickey) to unlock it.
In 3.0, the ultimate unlock is the Kingdom Hearts Keyblade. You must collect all the 3.0 character thru Marvel Battlegrounds to unlock it (Black Suit Spider-Man, and characters which come after--which would be Baloo, and any of the characters from Alice in Wonderland or Finding Dory--are not included).
All the unlocks are toybox items. To unlock them, each character must be leveled up to at least level 1, and have their statue unlocked in the Hall of Heroes.

Correct. It's all personal preference on which figures you want to get. Or put another way, which ever figures your kids want the most and won't stop bugging you about until you can't take it anymore and have to go out and get them. Here's a hint.... they will want ALL of them.

OK, I think I'm done then. I'm about $90 all in at the moment and that's a good place to stop.

I went to Target and Toys R US yesterday and both places really didn't have a lot to offer. I guess that's what I get for waiting so late to go.

Cool, I'll check out something like that.
Also, I noticed today that the light FX figures have a flicker when their lightsabers are lit. Is this normal, or is it a defect?
