Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013
I thought it might be time to branch some discussion out of the console threads so it doesn't get lost.
Dead Rising 3 is an exclusive launch title for the Xbox One.
Some new screenshots were released today showing that the silliness is intact:
This game is basically the deciding factor for whether or not I buy an XB1 at launch, so I'm glad to see more encouraging news lately for fans of the series.

That and IIRC, they said they were going in a different direction.
Sure the pics above look to retain the fun but it still looks lifeless with that color scheme. So every zombie has a black, navy, charcoal or maroon attire? Come on. It makes the silly stuff stick out like a sore thumb. Give me at least part of the color wheel.

Thanks I haven't been keeping up with the Next Gen stuff. I have a XB1 pre-ordered through Amazon just because I don't do Sony. Just trying to figure out which games to get at launch.

I passed on DR3 initially because of the presentation at E3, but once more videos and screenshots started coming down the pike, I went ahead and preordered. I wonder what the exclusive 'Day One' content is...

I'm going to have a fuckton of credit to buy a few launch titles. I'm pretty sure this will be one of them, unless the reviews are terrible.

I'm thinking it's about time to pre-order this game as well. I loved DR1 and HATED DR2. However, I recently played DR2: Off the Record and Loved it. The sandbox mode they added and all of the crap I did not like from DR2 was gone, Plus I was Frank West again. From everything I have been reading about DR3 it seems great. They even got rid of the stressful timed missions etc I believe (unless you play in a special mode), and still have fun sandbox modes.

Open world zombie game as a launch title on a next-gen console? So fucking sold. It's just icing on the cake that it's a Dead Rising title.

I'm getting this for sure. Now all I have to do is actually finish one.
Part one, got near the end and gave up.
Part two, got three quarters of the way through and gave up.
Off the Record, got to the last boss, and gave up.

Awesome. Any worries I might have had about this game from the strangely limited first reveal have been dispelled. Can't wait.

Yeah, now THAT'S what I wanted to see in a Dead Rising game. The first DR is the game that made me finally pull the trigger on getting a 360 and I liked both DR2 and DR2: Off the Record (which I'm just getting around to playing now).

I love that they took away the timed element crap. I hated that you missed missions because you couldn't get there in time. I want to explore and check shit out.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013
Some new details and screens emerged yesterday. First, the co-op character is a truck driver named Dick:
Article with details: Dead Rising 3 co-op adds new character and non-linear story progression
Next, details on the psychopaths: Dead Rising 3 offers one ‘Psycho’ character for each of the seven deadly sins
Finally, more general details about the game's creation and world: Dead Rising 3 is flush with dark horror … until you want it to be funny
And the map!
Article with details: Dead Rising 3 co-op adds new character and non-linear story progression
The best part about the co-op mode in Dead Rising 3 is that if you jump into your friend’s game, and that friend is further along than you are, you save the progress you’ve made with him when you jump back into your own game.
This means that if you’re playing through chapter one and you jump into your friend’s game and beat chapter three, then jump back to your own game, chapter three will be marked complete. You still have to beat chapter one and two, but once you do, you’ll have the option of skipping to chapter four.
...
When playing through the co-op missions, Nick and Dick aren’t tethered together. This means that they can be a significant distance apart from one another in any given stage.
Additionally, certain vehicles in the game are specifically designed to be ridden co-op, with one person driving and another controlling on-board weapons.

Note that the psycho "Greed" has a necklace made of fingers. The team at Capcom Vancouver says that the psycho characters were what got them in trouble most often with ratings boards.
...
Structurally, the psycho characters work completely differently from the boss characters. The bosses are all encountered as the story progresses.
On the other hand, the psychos are found in the open world, and can be tackled non-linearly, or not at all.

And the map!
The total area of Dead Rising 1, upper left, and Dead Rising 2, lower left, could fit inside the world of Dead Rising 3, right, several times.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013
I've read that most people agreed in theory, but I think the developers took away time in Off the Record (only one I haven't played yet) and the loss of urgency took away from the game from the impressions I read. In theory I agree, I like to explore, especially because Dead Rising is a smaller more dense map than most open world games, but I also like how the overall timer fits into the urgency theme of the game.
I am looking forward to this, one of the reasons I like Dead Rising so much is that it's typically a much more condensed open world game. It allows them to get much more detailed with the environments rather than having a huge amount of open world real estate filled with giant obstacles posing as buildings as in most open world games.
Hopefully it ends up on PC like DR2.
