Prey (2017)

re: Prey (2017)
Most of the pre reviews I've read have compared it favorably to Bioshock and Dead Space so I'll be picking it up tomorrow.

Early reviews are mostly good. Still not getting it until a price-drop.
No thanks to Bethesda's shitty policy of no early review codes. At $60 and at least a 10 hour commitment, these aren't some impulse purchases, but items that require some solid review info at least a few days before release.

Ok...
I haven't played it yet, but I doubt it is a game you will lose any sleep over not playing it right away.
Unless of course it blows everyone away and this forum goes nuts on it...

Unless there's preorder exclusive bonuses that are particularly amazing, seeing reviews before the release versus waiting a few days after release isn't that significant to me. I can wait a few days to see reviews on a game i'm iffy about.
Prey never looked like something I was going to pay full price on anyway, but if the early reviews hold up it seems like something i'll keep an eye on if i see a deal.

Why is there only 1 review so far. Very good review, but still. It's out. Reviewers played. Where are they?

Played a couple hours so far and it's scratching that Bioshock itch I've been missing.

Re: Prey (2017)
I just picked up Mario Kart and a Pro Controller last weekend, started The Last of Us last Tuesday, vowed to tackle my back catalogue before buying anything else new, and want to use my remaining 'fun money' to get a new backpack and Switch carrying case for a business trip at the end of the month, so naturally I downloaded Prey for PC this morning. Got to work on that impulse control.
Anyway, so far it's really good. Melee combat is a little iffy and the graphics look outdated sometimes, but the atmosphere alone makes up for all that. It's been really enjoyable to just take my time and wander.
I watched the GiantBomb quick look last night of the PS4 version, and they mentioned that the controls for the console versions were not great. There was noticeable input lag with the joysticks. I'm using M&K on the PC, and it plays really well.

Re: Prey (2017)
I played a few minutes of demo. It wasn't revelatory or anything. Mix of previously released games, I'll give it some more, but nothing that was grabbing me...

Since I picked it up yesterday I've already put 10 hours into it.

Re: Prey (2017)
and it's great?
when does it get BioShock-ish? with the neuromods?
im just using that foam gun to try and stop and kill those mimics. they are fast and no real pattern. i guess foam just slows them down and then i wrench them to death. and pressing Y to open the weapon wheel is cumbersome. i think there is a way to map them to the D-pad, but i am not figuring that part out. i still have to use Y and then scroll to wrench or shotgun or foam gun during heat of battle.
but, none of this seems like BioShock...

Seriously. Every aspect of the game is Bioshock-ish (from the wrench and powers, the fonts and level design, the quests, etc).
You've only played like the first two hours of the first Bioshock and then posted about those two hours like 50 times. I don't think you have a clue what Bioshock is like.

Anyone else playing this and can share comments?
I have some Amazon credits and may get it digitally, because it did give me an itch, a little one, but one nonetheless...

Re: Prey (2017)
did you finish? was it great? a kind of game you want to keep coming back to to play and see how it progresses? how many gameplay hours did it take you? lots of exploration?
