I wonder how the other VR competitors will be priced. Seems crazy, one of my coworkers says he's getting one though.

I really want one but I can't afford that for a while.

They're really limiting the audience for the Rift at that price point. Maybe in two generations later we'll get a more affordable price without the need for a high end gaming rig to run it?

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey seems to be having a pretty good day so far. "We sold through a lot faster than we expected," he told Polygon. "I can’t talk about numbers, but we sold through in 10 minutes what I thought we were going to sell through in a few hours, which is one of the reasons the site was beginning to buckle."
The consumer version of the Oculus Rift is now available for pre-order at $599, a price that seems to have caught many people off guard. Luckey himself used to tell people that the final cost of the hardware would be in the $300 to $400 range. So what changed?
"A lot of things changed," he began.
Oculus' original plan was to sell an updated version of the Development Kit 2 as the consumer version, although they were unhappy with some aspects of the design. "The problem is the frame rate is low enough that a lot of people perceive flicker," Luckey said. "The resolution is not what we would like it to be. We couldn't do things we wanted to do with optics while it was one display."

I was in day one, but at that price, I'm going to wait. Also, I want to see what the Vive does. I have to consider that I am going to have to build a brand new PC for this. That sticker shock though. It seems like he knew for a while that the price he originally wanted wasn't feasible. He should have managed expectations better.

I'm also waiting. It's about $300 more than I was expecting, especially after Zuckerberg said how aggressive they would be on pricing. I'll wait for the Vive to come out along with the Rift Touch controller and see what things look like towards the end of the year.

Would probably be a good idea.
Hover Junkers on the Vive looks like it'd be fun in an Arcade type setting

Or just make a brand new one to encompass everything, although it might be confusing since there's 3 different major products coming out this year.

Anyone else having weird glitches with the site today?
It's like I'll see one thing and then it'll go back in time to the previous iteration (pre-edited) posts.
It's weird. Anywho, Hover Junkers on the Vive looks fun:
I assume that Oculus and Vive games will more or less be cross compatible when the Oculus controllers come out, or am I missing something?

Budget Cuts is the game that is making me interested in the Vive.

Anyone else think Valves VR headset will be used for Half Life 3? I'm on the fence on buying VR but making HL3 an exclusive I'll pick one up in a heartbeat.

Still in "hold out" mode. Hopefully I continue to resist, but I'm pretty weak when it comes to tech gadgets.
Honestly my biggest hesitation is the (at least initial) market fragmentation. If I'm going to drop $600+ on a VR setup for a PC, it better damn well play every VR game on the PC! If I knew for sure that Adr1ft, Valkyrie, and several other titles will be running on the Vive (or Rift) in the near future, then it would sway me to take the jump sooner than later.
Also, how the hell do you give a piece of hardware like this a "score"? Stupid websites.

Thank you for your HTCVIVE.com order – We will start shipping May 2016.
Perhaps we should retitle this thread to just be a generic VR thread?

Razer has announced a new virtual reality headset for its open-source virtual reality platform at E3 2016. The hardware is launching this July, for a retail price of $399.99.
"The HDK [Hacker Development Kit] 2 is equipped with custom designed lenses and an OLED dual-display for a total resolution of 2160 by 1200," the press release stated. "It also includes IQE (Image Quality Enhancer) technology for a reduced screen door effect.
