That's great that you are happy with your Wii U, but this is about the next generation, not this generation which the Wii U is apart of.

"Our goal for Unreal Engine 4 console-wise is next-gen consoles," he explained to Kotaku. "That's really what our energies are focused on. If you want to make a Wii U game, we have Unreal Engine 3, and it's powering some of the best games on the Wii U already." |
re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The WiiU is barely current gen. It's playing a lot of catch up to where MS and Sony were 7.5 and 6.5 years ago, respectively.

Sure we did. We just stopped bitching in 2008.

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
True, if they had released the Wii U instead of the Wii, then I would have played my Wii a hell of a lot more than I have.

I guess we will see in a couple years where exactly the consoles sit as far as performance and visuals. |

There's nothing wrong with the WiiU but it's just a hair more powerful than 360/PS3. There's nothing wrong with that, it's great to have Nintendo games in HD, but saying it will be on par with PS4 and Durango is simply incorrect. The PS3 & 360 are the WiiU's peers, it just arrived 8 years late. |
re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
And the wii launched in 2007 (at the same time as the PS3), not 2005, which was already a year behind the 360 in 2006.

The original xbox a generation prior was capable of HD. So an SD system launching in 2005 was already a generation behind on day 1. No need to bitch, it was clear it was never going to be able to compete.

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
"Generation" in console life cycles has always been measured in capabilities (see 8-bit vs 16-bit), not the actual years of popularity.

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I messed up the years earlier, but not the order. 360 in 2005 and PS3 & Wii in 2006.

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Even though I think the Wii U is subpar, I'd still say video game generation refers to the years if its existence opposed to power under the hood.

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Yeah sorry, was off a year on the Wii. Point still stands though. Tech-wise, it was dated on release day.

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I guess we will wait and see what the majority of the developers say about if the Wii U is current gen or next gen...

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
How can it be next-gen if it's here?
|
re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The question is if it started a new one or tried to extend the existing one.

re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Nintendo 8 bit is what made me a gamer for life, but let's be honest here, Microsoft and Sony are leading us in to the next generation.

All the always-online rumors are based on the development consoles, which MS has tight control over. I'll be very surprised if the consumer console has the same restrictions.

You don't get it. Everyone could say that it's not next gen and that doesn't change the fact that it is.
But we all know where you stand. |
