To up my ante, I'm going to take the photo of my penis on the PS4 using my Kinect as I wave with the hopes that both Microsoft and the NSA are watching.

Yeah, the idea of people tossing a $100 piece of a/v equipment in the garbage is a bit much. If nothing else, pack it away in the box for a year and then sell it on eBay for $105 to people whose packed-in version broke in the meantime.

Not sure why people around here though otherwise, but Dead Rising is never coming to PS4/PC, it is not a timed exclusive.

Also, an unnamed floor rep at Gamescom? Is that like getting info from a booth babe at E3?

The Kinect chips, designed by a team mostly based in Microsoft’s Silicon Valley office, use a technology called Time of Flight that will let the sensor track minute changes in a user’s body, like finger movements and facial expressions, a much more precise system than the earlier version.

Or you know, you could hook it up and use some handy voice commands instead of being a baby about the big scary spy camera

So is there anything preventing them from incorporating the voice commands into the headset? Just pride over Kinect, right?

I have a Kinect for the first 360. I thought it was a cool idea (and the applications for it on Windows still are), but it was more of a hassle than a convenience, and the games I tried did not improve the experience. So why should I pay $100 for the privilege of the next Kinect when I know I don't want it?

If everyone has Kinect more devs will make cool apps for it. Plain and simple. They won't all be great but it only takes one awesome app to get people interested.

Even though I don't give a shit about Kinect, at this point I just attribute it to the cost of the whole bundle and accept the extra cost in return for the games, controller, and misc other features and functionality I prefer over the PS4. Worst case I use it a few times before putting it away, best case is that there manage to be a few games or features that I find convenient with it connected.

Re: Xbox One: The Only Choice for Rational Gamers
I just read something online today that DR3 is never coming to the PS4 or the PC. I now believe it. But as to why people thought it might later : because it's a Capcom license that's been on the PC and the PS3. Frankly I hate zombie genre in general (excluding L4D) and hate the first 2.5 DR games in particular. I will certainly get a Kinect-free XO probably within a year of launch, but I won't buy DR3 even at a discounted price. It's not my thing. Titanfall on the other hand, that will probably be the game that gets me to buy a One.

When I eventually (who knows when?) get around to buying One, the Kinect will not be hooked up. I don't have a lot of spare space, so I might get rid of it. I won't buy any game that requires it. Devs will not be able to assume that everyone has one, only that everyone had one.

Not sure if this was posted since its a couple days old, but this is a more positive impression of Ryse.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/...se-son-of-rome
And from Joystiq - http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/20/ry...gamescom-2013/
I'm not really sold on the game and it still looks a bit bland, but i'm glad it isn't as plain and simple as just QTE stuff.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/...se-son-of-rome
After a hands-on with the latest build on the eve of Gamescom, however, I have good news: there's no need to worry about Ryse: Son of Rome. The combat has plenty of depth, and the AI is aggressive enough that you'll be challenged plenty. Oh, and QTEs are merely optional finishing moves, with the giant button prompt over a foe's head replaced by a subtle colored outline around the not-long-for-this-world bad guy that corresponds to the button you're supposed to press in order to nail the best execution.
...
So what the hell happened at E3? Crytek admits they should've shown off more raw gameplay instead of a "perfect" playthrough. "Without showing the full depth [of the combat], without showing failure [to pull off a move or execution]...did it do us some injustice? Maybe," admitted senior producer Brian Chambers. "It left a lot of questions."
As far as I'm concerned, those questions have been answered to my satisfaction. My only concern about my hands-on time was the fact that it took place in a developer test area that won't be in the final game. I fully understand why Crytek showed me what it did -- the team wanted to focus solely on the combat system fans have been concerned about and not have things like cinematics, dialogue, etc. competing for my attention -- but I do wish the demo could've been longer to allow me to go in and also try things out within the context of the real game. We should get the chance to do just that later this week here at Gamescom, so check back for our updated report.

"People don't like the idea of a QTE-based combat system. Thank God we're not a QTE-based combat system," says Esteves, alluding to the fact that there is more to Ryse's combat than people may have perceived from the E3 demo. Just as I did in June, players will eventually discover that the combat is more about a dance-like back-and-forth between Marius and foes than it is about executions. "That was the first thing," says Esteves, "and the second thing is, is the communication language good enough for the game?" Crytek decided it wasn't.

MS is streaming a conference in 90min. Don't think it was mentioned yet. You can watch it on the 360.

If Microsoft is insane, which many of you think they are, I'll say October 25th.
Logically I think 11/12 makes more sense.

Re: Xbox One: The Only Choice for Rational Gamers
My money is still on Nov 5th or 7th. They would be the only available choice for next gen CoD unless you wanted to wait a few weeks. This, coupled with the CoD DLC and dedicated servers would get them a great start.
I also think they will launch in all of their countries on the same day, definitely in Europe. That gives them almost a month head start AND gives everyone FIFA. I laughed pretty hard at Sony delaying Europe by two weeks....in Europe
