Glad there's a headset. 4K rated HDMI cable is a nice touch, considering we never got HDMI cables with the 360.

Considering Microsoft owns Skype, I doubt they'd allow it.

You would think, but wouldn't there be a conflicting interest between divisions in that the folks who run Skype would want it on as many platforms as possible?

Anyway, with no forced camera on PS4, it's more of a natural fit on X1 regardless.

I would think increased market penetration of Skype would be more valuable to Microsoft than having it as a selling point for the X1, but it probably doesn't make much difference either way.

It should be noted that the Vita is a portable console, which MS doesn't have a comparable offering of, so maybe MS doesn't view it as a competitor. Also, Skype on the Vita is just voice, while on the Xbox One it'll include video.

I don't see the surprise about Skype, I think it was obvious features like that or the Game DVR stuff would require Gold, given the current features that already require Gold on the 360.

Glad the console is including something as basic as an HDMI cable. Never understood why these consoles didn't before.

Probably pretty similar to Sony letting MS use Blu-ray. It benefits them in the long run the same way PS4 having Skype would help MS in the long run.

Probably the bean counters didn't see the point in including more that one type of video cable with a console, and the 360 always came with a composite cable, for the lowest common denominator. From what I can tell, the One doesn't support anything besides HDMI for video (no composite or component).

Sony doesn't control Blu-ray. They're part of a consortium that licenses the tech out. So Sony can't stop a manufacturer from using Blu-ray tech, as long as it's properly licensed from the BDA. Sony does get a royalty check though for its patents related to Blu-ray.

By contrast, MS owns Skype outright, and can make any decision it wants regarding it, good or bad.
