Exactly! I think most of us can agree that Wii U has the best exclusives, followed by Playstation 4, with Xbox in a distant third.

Err he's pretty much right, at least with last gen. I guess you can argue subjectivity blah blah blah... but 3rd party exclusives are fast becoming a thing of the past. No one does first party exclusives better than Nintendo so they win by most accounts, Wii U is off to a shitty start but they'll deliver the goods in first party games. They always suck with multiplats, but that's another discussion.
Sony delivers more unique IPs and they cover a larger variety of genres. MS plays it safe for the most part, or at least they did this gen. Too early to tell with next gen.

Wii U is current Gen 5+ years too late, not close to that of the Next Gen Systems.
The games are only good for those that have played them and like them.
I've never been a Nintendo fanboy and the only games I really liked on the N64 and Gamecube were wrestling and Star Wars games. Mario was nice, especially on the N64, but I didn't really play much more than that as far as Mario games.
I do have The Super Mario Limited collection and New Super Mario Bros for the Wii, but haven't spent any time with them.
I do not see myself ever getting a Wii U, and I almost didn't even bother with the Wii, but broke down when they released the black version.
I'm getting both of the next gen systems, so the console exclusives will be available to me.
I'm not sure if Nintendo is working on releasing a next gen system to compete with the PS4 and One - so it doesn't really matter to me what exclusives they normally have.

It sounds like you're playing games for the wrong reasons
fwiw, the graphics in Mario Kart 8 were some of the most impressive shown at e3 and looked straight out of a Pixar movie.

How is that?
I play the games that I like and get enjoyment out of it.
What reasons do you play games?

Second statement... seems kind of obvious. Yeah you have to have played a game to know that you enjoy it.

It looks nice, but in terms of a Pixar comparison, maybe pre-2000 Pixar. Definitely not one of the best looking games at E3. Of course I'm bias as I personally think MK8 looks pretty awful gameplay wise

That said the Wii U had a pretty good showing at E3 with Sonic and Bayonetta. The system is down but not out.

My first statement had to do with him comparing a current late gen system, to the next gen systems.
I made no claims about graphical quality being essential.
Will I play a game if the graphics suck? no, I've tried playing a N64 wrestling game (that I loved during that gen) and I couldn't get over the poor graphics of it compared to other games available to me.
Does that mean I can only play current and next gen games? No, I play 16 bit games from time to time, other games as well that I don't even know what "bit" they are.
If the game is good, and the graphics are not in a way that distracts or takes away from the overall experience, then I will play it.
I've played plenty of current gen arcade and indie games that do not have super awesome graphics, but they do not detract from the super awesome gameplay.

I heard that same line for Ratchet and Clank Future.

Personally I'd take a visually artistic approach over a graphically realistic one any day. Think Wind Waker vs. Killzone or Gears. No doubt Gears is the more technically demanding but Wind Waker gives off a certain atmosphere on graphics alone and I think that makes for the more memorable experience when all is said. Realistic & gritty games are a dime a dozen.

I never took Gears as realistic, I always thought it looked more like a graphic novel and looked excellent. Wind Waker has a very nice visual style as well, one that played up to the powers of the GC and aged well because of it.
The Witcher 3 is a game that looks like it goes for realism, it doesn't pull it off but looks spectacularly detailed.

It actually looks like a current gen game with the detail turned up to 11.

Does Mario Kart 8 have online multiplayer, or is it still only a local multiplayer game?
As a final clarification to my first statement: I was talking about next gen system exclusives, LMM added the Wii U to the thread, because he is LMM.

The resolution isn't the issue, there are small things in the detail and animation that aren't up to par. Don't get me wrong though, it still looks excellent. I'm just not a big fan of hyperbole.

1080p is supported but isn't native for all games (ie - CoD:Blops 2), Smash Bros and Wind Waker run in 1080p.
I'm kind of mixed with the games that have shown up so far, take MGS V that looks fantastic, but then you have a truck that looks like it was rendered on the Dreamcast.

A video is rarely going to look as good as the game first hand. I don't care what the native resolution is.

Yeah, I misread your post, I thought you were saying that the video was going to look better than the actual game at home.

Super Smash Bros. will once again have online multiplayer, too.

from an aesthetic standpoint I thought it was really pleasing and looked great. maybe not the best of show, but certainly one of the more appealing looks
