I don't think that's true at all. Many players who do a lot of other things in the game were also spending time at the cave because it was quite simply the most reliable way to get higher-level gear, which is required to access end-game content.

Here's the fundamental design flaw with the loot system in this game, broken down:

1. Loot drops are 100% luck based. You can get the exact same random drop from a level 2 Dreg on Earth as you can from the bullet-sponge boss at the end of a level 28 strike. You can get the exact same reward at the end of a Crucible match with 0 kills and 20 deaths as you can with 20 kills and 0 deaths. Performance doesn't matter, nor does difficulty.
2. Leveling after 20 is entirely dependent on gear, i.e., the loot mentioned above. There is no other factor that matters. (This is also a problem in and of itself with regards to character customization, but that's a whole other topic.)
3. Access to end-game content (raids, high-level strikes), and the ability to have any chance of completing that content, heavily depends on your level. Raid enemies are level 28, for example, and by design there's a vast difference to the amount of damage you do to them at level 26 vs. level 27 or 28. Weapon damage doesn't matter nearly as much as your level.

I can't fathom how Bungie didn't see all the problems inherent with this system, especially when combined with an extremely low loot drop rate.

By the way, the newest patch decreases the loot drop rate for a duration after your fire team gets wiped (which means dying, and that includes just yourself if you're running solo). Because that's the change this game needed - less loot.

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/...hat-cryptarch/

Auto Rifles
The Auto Rifle archetype is designed to appeal to players who like to throw up a wall of bullets and not worry if a few miss their target. It is intended to inflict sustained damage at close to medium range, but to lose effectiveness at longer ranges.

Today the Auto Rifle is too effective at long range, even beating Scout and Pulse Rifles in some circumstances. Expect stability and/or damage adjustments to the Auto Rifle to address this in the weeks ahead.

Scout Rifles
Scout Rifles are for players who like to keep their enemies at medium range and hate to miss. They are intended to be an awkward weapon to use at close range but to be dominant– as long as you land your shots– at medium and longer ranges.

Scouts just aren’t hitting hard enough today when compared to other precision weapons. We’ll be addressing this soon.

Shotguns
Shotguns are for those situations where you need to deliver a massive spike of damage, right now, to the thing standing next to you about to do you harm.

Today shotguns are effective beyond their intended range, especially when upgraded with that intention. Expect changes soon to address shotguns which push the envelope of what it means to be close quarters.

I use the Scout Rifle the most and they're right...they are not hitting hard enough based on the stats compared to the Pulse and Auto. They need to increase the Pulse Impact about 10-12%, maybe reduce the range on the Auto just a tad and increase the damage on the Scout. If they're going to reduce the range on the Shotgun then increase damage/impact up close.

Good. I use an Auto rifle. Glad they're addressing the stupid Shotgun at level +99 issue. No fucking shotgun shot should take you out with one blast if you've leveled 20 on up.

I'm not a fan of the Scout Rifle.

I am having fun with the game and will continue to play it

despite the flaws in the game this game has great shooting mechanics and the weapons are really done with a top notch presentation

I enjoy the PvP element as well that I know others don't even want to bother with

honestly I believe Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is a better game than this (anyone who hasn't given this game a look is overlooking a gem) without any hype or a sliver of the budget but I think this game will be ever evolving (for better and worse) and will continue to hold my interest

Well, they did fix the shotgun problem. Apparently it was a little too strong, so I was fucking right!

You sure love pontificating.

This thread took a turn to utterly ridiculous real quick. Didn't know we had so many with inside knowledge on what and how Bungie thinks.

I'm just going off what they're saying.

Destiny: The Cave
The social experience of a cave farming run is amazing: the herding to get a team of Guardians all behind the line and firing in the right direction, the rush to grab the loot, the scramble when the panic wave starts, the beckoning glow from inside the cave. The speed at which the community organized around this activity was inspiring and humbling to us.

But shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn't our dream for how Destiny is played. Our hope is that social engagement in public spaces is only one part of the Destiny experience. Expect changes soon which decrease the efficiency of cave farming and correspondingly increase engram drops from completing activities.
If that's not an admission that they fucked up, I don't know what is.

So they up and patch it, without addressing any of the things that had to do with why people were farming at the cave.
Sure, they might get to it later, but they should've done it at the same time.

Agreed. Gonna take a page from Wargames: The only winning move is not to play. Still gonna play Destiny though because I enjoy it! Using the Adviser now to be more strategic.

You can add me to the minority that actually like this game. I'm still having a lot of fun with it and am constantly learning how this game actually works.

I know some people have complained about the "bullet sponge" enemies. The ones that seem impossible to kill during higher level strikes and such? Turns out we've just been using the wrong guns.

The solar, arc, and void damages that certain guns have isn't dealing bonus damage, it's purpose is to counter those enemies that seem invincible. If you shoot an enemy and he glows orange, equip a gun that does solar damage (the flame icon) and you'll break his shield easily. If they glow blue, equip an arc weapon.

I don't know about everyone else, but I got the digital version of this game. There's no in-game instructions or anything and that shit is not explained anywhere. I've just been dismantling everything and not paying attention to the elemental modifier. It makes life so much easier knowing how that suff actually works. Now I'm not gonna be so quick to break all these weapons down.

I know exactly what it means and I used it to convey exactly what I meant. Your smug attitude doesn't make you wrong, it's your assumptions of things you have no inside knowledge about that do.

Your endless prattling on in this thread has been wearing very thin. You don't like the game then don't fucking play it.

Never said I hated the game, but I'm sorry if you're so insecure that someone pointing out flaws brings out such ire from you. I didn't realize you were so fragile. I'll be more careful with you. No need to cry, it'll be alright.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Level 28...played a lot of this game. I really enjoyed myself, but at this point I have no reason to keep playing. The rewards are crap, loot rate is crap. I sort of wish I did not buy the LE, but at least I got a good deal at best buy..

Just to be clear, I really enjoyed my 60 hours in this, it just does not have any of the magic of a true loot game...and not enough content to keep me playing.

Every strike/heroic mission should end with at least 1 blue engram...

Enemy's attacking each other in free roam should happen more often (these are the best moments in the game)

Engrams should at least double in drop chance...

Missions should randomize more so they are not the same mission over and over.

Add some sort of Horde mode with ever increasing rewards the longer you can last....

Re: Bungie - Destiny

"Prattling" on about what is very clearly broken in this game is no better or worse than the worshiping of the game from those that are having fun with it. When you have to grind, and it is grinding no matter where or what mission you do it in, to even have a chance to get necessary loot with no guarantee of ever getting it then there is a problem. At least in Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Diablo 3 and countless other games of this type the grinding was eventually rewarded with the rarest items needed. In this game there is no such guarantee. You'd have more luck scoring something by grinding on random people in a parking lot than in this game.
