I downloaded the beta for my 360 today. Obviously not the best version, but the only one I can try at this point. Like a lot of people, i thought at first it wasn't anything special and kinda boring. Once I figured out what to do and levelled up a bit, it became much more interesting. Still have some more exploring to do.

Been thinking about grabbing the Destiny PS4 bundle and this beta has me thinking I just might do that.

Dug the moon. Creepy setting and the new armed bikes were cool. Also some hints about the story with some kind of mysterious Guardian. I wish they'd given us a day with the moon though. I didn't really get to explore at all.

I look forward to seeing what the Titan is like once it gets the shield thing, but for now, the Warlock seems to be the go-to class. That special just wrecks shop. For primaries, it's all about the scout rifles. The burst and assault rifles are pretty terrible because of how the game emphasizes critical hits, and the small damage edge for revolvers is easily overcome by the larger clip size, fire rate and reload speed on the scout rifles. The game is very generous with headshots, and I can roll them off all day with a scout rifle, even in close quarters.

I think I'm done with the beta, but I also think you could make a case for the Alpha and Beta being the best game of the summer, which is kind of mental. At a minimum, the Alpha won E3, because it was all anybody talked about for a week after. I also think the game is going to sell like crazy, especially being on all four platforms. I took the under on foxdvd's sales prediction, but with even more delays announced this week, I think I'll take the over instead.

It's unfortunate that a few of you aren't loving it, but it's also interesting who those few are. I hope you think more of the final game if you get it fellas.

I personally can't wait.

too bad you didn't have more time with the moon level, there are what looks to be great sets (some very Giger'esque

I agree Warlock is my go to choice, the Vortex nade is nasty ... auto rifles over pulse which take forever to fire off

and like you said the Alpha and Beta may have been the games of the summer which I think is very sad. I don't think it will but I wish time/progress invested in the beta would carry over
the game will sell very well and will surpass WD for best new IP debut

FWIW...Dualshockers has some really nice Moon Panoramic Shots up here from PS4....

http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/07/...-level-on-ps4/

Yea...I'm in that if we only had a full day with the Moon bunch. Two us went over inside the "Dam" and it just kept going down & down. Cool to to ride the Armed Bikes. What a contrast with Russia Earth and have a feeling there is a lot to discover there.

The Scout Rifles I too found to be the best overall...good impact damage, good range with semi-auto fire rate. I like the Fusion Rifle for a secondary for it's insane impact damage but I don't discard a solid Shotgun either when it's close and many. Melee + Shotgun = Instant Death. I had a Copperhead Flame model one that was just brutal. Sort of sad to see it go today but played enough and time to get ready for The Last of Us.

Yup. I did it through Best Buy because of the Rewards points. The only drawback is that I have to wait until September 9th to pick it up.

I don't get the appeal for the white PS4. Having one white piece of hardware in an entertainment cabinet surrounded by black electronics would be an eyesore for me. Would you buy a TV with a white bezel?

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Very disappointing .....

One of the concerns I’ve seen among people who have played the Destiny Beta related to how big each planet and how much the player can access. Destiny players have seen a lot of Old Russia and some of the Moon yesterday evening, and it seems like that’s not the small slice we originally thought it was.

Addressing this concern, Bungie’s David Dague aka Deej stated in a live stream (around 1:49) that each planet — Mars, Earth, Moon, and Venus — only has one “destination” – as Bungie calls the areas — that you’ll explore on each planet. This means that Old Russia is it for the Earth.

While that may be cause for concern to some, we have to remember that these areas are pretty large with a lot of space to explore, caves to find, and chests and ghosts to uncover. Furthermore, the Destiny Beta has a lot locked off either by high level monsters or locked doors. Irregardless, this likely means that areas like Old Chicago and Europa won’t be making it into the game when it ships this September.

I assumed that based upon the Earth missions all took place in the same location for the most part and I kept asking my friends, "Did you just accidentally choose the last story mission? Didn't we already do this?"

Borderlands 2, which was a last-gen game, had 22 playable areas with some of them having multiple destinations within them. GTA 5 was pretty much the entire city of Los Angeles and then some.

This is some bullshit.

musick 07-27-14 02:15 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

I didn't make that assumption given we only were playing the alpha/beta

I guess I just have to come to the realization that by their very nature videogames are just repetitive .... but if you are going to be repetitive you better keep my interest with good characters/story
nothing this gen has accomplished this

oh well, was obvious we would be getting a partial game at $60 with additional content to be paid for later

Agreed. It wouldn't be a big deal if this were some run of the mill shooter, but with Destiny costing half a billion dollars, making it the most expensive video game ever made, you would think they'd have more locations than just this handful. Where did all that money go? It doesn't even have a fleshed out storyline.

How are you guys doing the moon missions? There is one listed for me but it's locked. I am level 8 and have done all the earth missions.

Maybe we'll only get half the game $30 worth at launch and over the next year the second half of the game in the form of free DLC/Expansion pack?

Assuming they do a new destiny game every two years;

2014 free 3 separate DLC equivalent to $10 each

2015 Paid Expansion Packs equivalent to $25 each

2016 Destiny 2 and so on.

Brack 07-27-14 03:52 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

So how big is this game then as far as exploring?

Matthew Chmiel 07-27-14 04:10 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

This is Activision, not Respawn or Valve. There's a better chance of hell freezing over than this game getting free DLC.

According to r/xboxone, the game as stands until proven otherwise has: 22 story missions, 11 crucible maps, 6 strike missions, 4 exploitable areas, and 1 raid.

Yeah. Thanks, but no thanks. I just cancelled my entire pre-order. Fuck you Bungie.

EDIT: In addition, there are also:
  • 262 helmets
  • 178 chest armors
  • 217 class items
  • 244 gauntlets
  • 181 leg armors
  • 169 primary weapons
  • 120 special weapons
  • 85 heavy weapons
  • 74 ships
